Target Rainchecks: Loophole Closed?

Ok, I want to know if anyone else has experienced this with the weeky round of rainchecks:

I went to the front of the store to get my raincheck for Driver 3 and Red Dead Revolver (which by the way are the best deals this week @ 47% off), and instead of a message about choosing a substitute, it gave me a message of other local stores that might have this product in stock and listed off 3 more Target stores.

I've never seen the rainchecks do this, I'm wondering if they have either cancelled the sub policy, or removing it from the receipt to make it much much harder to redeem.

Feel free to chime in on your experiences.

I can confirm this. They wouldn't issue me a raincheck at all at the service desk because they were no longer issuing rainchecks on "great buys". When I tried the videogame counter the raincheck did not include the price substitution message for games I tried anyway.

Hmmm, that's interesting, but with no other Targets within 50 miles, hopefully they won't try that crap with me.

Hopefully, they'll keep the deal going, but I can't blame them for closing it down. I know if I was running a business, I wouldn't have a deal like that, and if I found out people were abusing it, I would close it fast.

Don't get me wrong, I've used my fair share of rainchecks and don't personally think it's wrong, but it's only a matter of time until it's closed. And this might be a signal of Target wising up.

That sucks but I am not suprised. So even if there is no other target near you it sounds like the substitution is no longer allowed.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's all about them being more conscious. The guy I asked for them asked me if I checked with the electronics guy about the games being in stock and asked a lot of questions before even issuing a raincheck, he did, and they had the right percentage, but with no mention of the "choose a sub" program, and nothing you can print off their web site (I checked!), then once the current round of old rainchecks which still say what they do on them, this deal may be over for good.

Thank goodness they still do have the good deals they do though. :)

i just got two rainchecks yesterday at a Target by my folks' place about 30 miles from my place. They were for RDR and GTA double pack. Today, I went to the Target near me to use one of the RCs to get Madden 2005, and they wouldn't let me. The RC still had the substitute thing on there, but the guy said i couldn't get a sub if the RC's game was in stock.

I know I probably could have argued and asked for a manager, but it just wasn't worth it. I figure that sisnce the whole 'trick' is a bit of a loophole, i should just be glad that it EVER works, and not get mad when it doesn't.

...still a bummer though...

Just got a raincheck today and used it 2 hours later :D
The raincheck I got wasnt like the one stated above, it actually said you could use substitution. Didn't have trouble getting it but I did encounter a little trouble substitutin another item cause I picked a really clueless employee.

im going to target tomorrow i will see what they do here in fort wayne

mioght go now will report

REPORT 9pm Est

my target is the same as it alwasy was % off games might try to get a game % off tomorrow if i got my car running

No Target I have ever been to let me do the raincheck thing so many people here are fond of. After that whole Madden thing, it's very YMMV at this point.

Just remember--it never hurts to ask, and be polite no matter what happens. Is it really worth yelling and complaining and making a scene for $20-$25 off of the price of a video game?
This whole rain check thing is confusing to me. When ever they didn't have a game in stock they just ssid they didn't have it.
If they don't have it, you can either ask or you'll see a raincheck slip in the glass case. Ask them for one, and lets say its for 44% off, you could substitute it for another game instead of the one that was OOS.

I guess it depends on the amount of targets in the area. There are only 2 on my part of town. I don't think they would try to make you go to another one if it's so far away. That's a bad business pratice on their side.
