My own view on this is simply the age of the religions themselves. I feel religions have a childhood, an adolescence and old pacifistic age.

I think you can guess on your own which religions fall into which category.

People aren't fucked up because of religion, they're usually fucked up and join a religion, like Scientologists.

Yup. That and the means/opportunity. Pissing on other people is fundamentally an activity directed downwards through the social strata and antisemitism is so deep rooted in much of the world that Jews aren't as often in a position to do the pissing.
 
frankly I'd say it says something about the school district that that such a zealous religious nut was allowed to teach anything, much less science. I would like to say though that even though I'm atheist, I know that not all religious people are like this.
