Ted Kennedy Dead
How much of a slap on the wrist did Kennedy get for the car wreck? Did he lock the doors or tied her up? Because it was an accident? People of gotten off for accidents before... where's the wiki link?
It was an accident but he compounded the fact by walking back to the hotel, talked to the management, went to bed, woke up, showered, ate breakfest, called his lawyers and then finally called the police to report it. And she didn't die from drowning, she died from asphyxiation as there was a pocket of air in the car that she found. If he did the right thing and called the police right after it happened, she would have lived (they figure that she lived for about 4 hours or so before the air ran out). Only thing he had to plead guilty to is leaving the scene of an accident in which all he got was a suspended 2 month sentence and a year of probation.

Though it kinda sucks that he passed away, to me at least, the dude was a pure scumbag who would leave no stone unturned to inject the government into people's lives

Eh, he was drunk. Obviously his judgement was fucked and then he passed out instead of calling the cops.

It's as much her fault for getting in the car with someone who had been drinking.

Wow, I'm awe of the stupidity within your reasoning. If it is as much as her fault as Ted's then Ted should have gotten the same punishment, death.
So, you're saying it was smart of her to get in the car with someone who had been drinking?
I don't think anybody would argue that she was exercising good judgment, but your statement of "It was as much her fault as his!" is pretty fucking retarded.

How so? The blame is equally shared. Plain and simple.

If Kennedy had tied her up and forced her into the car then I would say he desrves the death penalty. But that didn't happen. She got in the car on her own free will knowing he was drunk. She played russian roulette and sadly lost.

Here's another example. Say you have a friend who wanted to try drugs. He goes and buys some heroin on his own free will and chooses to shoot up and ends up dying of an overdose. Is the drug dealer solely to blame?

I'll give $5 to the first person who can decipher my garbled sentence in post #98.
Sounds like an easy way for a Polish person to make $5...
It sounds Jewish to me; mazel tov.
...

I think I'm going through some sort of bizarre Flowers for Algernon-type situation. I've been at this site a long time and have never had too much trouble understanding what's going on, but suddenly nothing makes sense. I mean... I look at the post above, and I recognize the words, but I have no idea what they mean in this context.

EDIT: I mention this here because this is not an isolated incident. One person not making sense to me? Could be there fault. Everything slowly turning absolutely bizarre? That's a little bit more worrying.
I really don't think it was that difficult to understand where I was coming from. I didn't slidecage it and require a translator.

If he got away with only walking away from the scene of an accident then that's it. Nothing has changed since then, DUI's and murders. Everything is an accident and they get away with it.

To say that he should have deserved more would be like all those today that require a more harsh punishment, but ultimately don't get it. Just this year there was a guy, drinking, ran over someone on the freeway. What did he get? A year or so probation. What did the run-over-ee get? Death.

Runover-ee just was in the wrong place at the wrong time and shouldn't have been there. Much like Mary, but what are we really going to pin on the guy? Murder?

Just thinking this thread is quite entertaining with everyone "caring" so much for this now dead guy. It's probably certainly more than what I thought he would get, if there is this much hatred for him here.

I would but I'm tired of getting banished to the fifth dimension.

It's such a shame that Ted Kennedy died. What's a bigger shame was that he was not given the Presidency that was entitled to him. Jimmy Carter and that women deservingly got castigated for that. He has the nobel blood of the Kennedy dynasty and is America's last true Prince. All the media agrees with these points.

Ofcourse crazy, conservative nutjobs will always bring up Mary Jo, expelled from Harvard for cheating but bought his way into re-admission, cheating on and divorcing his wive, drunk, playboy, sexist, incompetent, never held a real job until the U.S Senate seat was given to him by his brother, family wealth originated from Mafia, bootlegging, and having a father who admired Hitler and his prosecution against the Jews (Joe Kennedy despised the Jews). All these points are null because he is a Kennedy and the Kennedies are anointed by the media as the true heirs to the America monarchy. Hence, Ted Kennedy is entitled to do whatever he wants and given whatever he wants. His last wishes are to pass the health care reform and have his senate seat given to another Kennedy. All of you better help fulfill his dying wish and worship him not only as your idol but your personal savior -- alongside with obama -- as well.
So did Ted ever get that rule changed back to his advantage to keep a democrat in his position when he passed....you know, the rule he had changed in 2004 in case Kerry won the presidency?
.
The rule is in the process of being changed right now. The governor and the legislature already came out to support the change. Let's see which Kennedy gets appointed, or rather, which seat-warmer gets appointed for the inevitable Kennedy follow-up. It's what Ted Kennedy wanted.

Let's just hope the new rule will clearly state that Only a Democratic governor can fill an empty senate seat. Otherwise we'll have to go through the process of another rule change when a Republican governor gets elected.

which kennedy is suppose to take over his seat? I thought the AG (Martha Coakley) was going to run and has been said to be a front runner.

There's always his son, Patrick, but I think he's a RI resident. He'd be a perfect candidate to take over Teddy's legacy, unless he's still in rehab. He learned much from his father.
