Oh my god, look at this ridiculous email:

Hello from Amazon.com.

We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered video game in the order you placed on June 05 2010 (Order# #####). The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

"Test Drive Unlimited 2"
Release date: January 15 2011
Estimated arrival date: January 19 2011
This is after checking my order status a couple days ago and seeing it scheduled for delivery this Friday. Hysterical!!

Actually, once I got over the initial shock of a three month delay happening in the supposed release week, I wasn't really upset at all because it's not like I don't have a huge stack of unplayed games to get through. Also I'm sure Atari could use the extra time to let people know this game exists.

THREE MONTHS!!!

I loved the first one and can't wait to get TU2 but I have to admit I didn't know the release date. Guess its a good thing it got pushed back.

So, this game absolutely rocks!

At first I was worried it was going to be too "hardcore" for my tastes ala Gran Turismo but TDU2 strikes a great balance between simulation and arcade driving styles. Also the entire concept of a persistent open world that you can do random missions in and just simply cruise around in is great!

I am definitely a fan now.

Loved the first one on the 360...waiting to hear some positive reviews. Almost all of the reviews I have seen have put it in the 5-6 out of 10 range. Not enough for me to purchase at the moment. Maybe if it hits $30 on sale or I hear a really positive review after a patch.

I have no idea what to think of this game. (never played the first)

It has all of this wonderful open-world RPG stuff that makes me love it but it's all mired in a totally douche-bag story that's up-its-own-ass.

I sit here playing it and laughing at it but all the while I'm wondering if the developer wanted me to be laughing with it instead.

So far I've been treating it like 50 Cent Blood On The Sand in the sense that I like to hand it to people when they come over and have them start a new game just to watch the reaction of "What the fuck is this?".

The handling took a lot of tweaking for me before it felt right and it definitely falls more on the side of playing it like an arcade racer with the view set to outside of the car rather than my preferred cockpit view for a sim but there's definitely something to just driving around the environment and dicking around. (I just really wish there were more exploration/discovery levels to be had from doing so)

A bit like Just Cause 2 in that way where it's more fun for me to just play it on my own terms rather than those set-out by the development team.

The "plot" is absurd and adds nothing to the game, but it's not something you should get hung up on since it boils down to a few, brief cutscenes before and after the tournament events. The driving is still the real focus and is the core of the game (Still, I wish the cutscenes were skippable.)

I haven't run into any server problems so far, although the corrupt save thing the Joystiq link mentioned sort of freaked me out. Here's what the devs have to say about it currently:

  • Corrupt Save Files? - This is a known issue. There is a chance that this error message may come up erroneously. If this occurs, exit to the system dashboard immediately without clicking "Delete" or "Retry." - we're working on a long term fix. If the workaround does not resolve the problem, unfortunately there are currently no known methods of recovering a corrupted save file.
