So this game comes out this week (3/20), and there really hasn't been much info about it? I think all we see is a "THQ" on the box and that may be kind of a red flag lol

Now I never played any of those Tetris clones & spinoffs, and they apparently suck ass. My question: Tetris is very simple, how was it ruined?

And if you know anything about this game, dicuss it here. I know there's 4 player live matches, and if it's anything like Tetris DS...then we are in for a treat!

If you use google check out (new account), you can get this for like $23 shipped from Buy.com, which makes it somewhat tempting IMO.

Though, most people feel that this should be an XBLA game. I agree, it's very much of an XBLA game at heart, but at least they give you 1000 points.. lol

So yeah, post if you are getting it and also post why you are staying away from it. I'd love to hear why games like "Tetris Worlds" sucked ass.

I might jump on it for $15 or less. My wife was just asking the other day if we had a way to play Tetris on the TV. This would be a no-brainer (assuming it wasn't really messed up) on the XBLA, but as a retail release, I'm hesitant to jump.

THQ + Tetris = No buy

It's amazing how they fucked up such a simple concept so many times and I learned my lesson with Tetris Worlds.
THQ + Tetris = No buy
Tetris Worlds was, indeed, fucked up beyond recognition, but I would blame the developer, Blue Planet Software, before I'd blame THQ.

This new one is being developed by Mass Media, so I think it deserves a chance.

Those of you that are waiting for a XBLA version:

Tetris is coming to XBLA

When the retail title Tetris Evolution was announced the entire world wondered why this wasn't coming to Xbox Live Arcade. Well guess what... it is. In an interview with a member of the Tetris Evolution team, the beans were spilled that there is in fact an Xbox Live Arcade version in the works. Sadly, it is being made by a completely different team/studio and the developer has no information on what exactly it will be like. A repackaging of the Xbox 1 Tetris title would be great on XBLA.

My fave Tetris is Tetris Square. Its where you make those gold and silver blocks. When it came to XB a few years back I was #1 at that game type for about 3 months. I was top 10 for a year. I have not heard if this new version will have square if it doesnt I dont want to buy it.

I've got this one queued up in my GameFly account right now.

I did buy Tetris Worlds with my bowling league prize fund a few years back just for the fact that it was Tetris with off and online multiplayer. Had a blast with it, too.

only 4 players? :S

it needs to be 6+ players, more like tetrinet/tetrix or like the DS tetris with varying multiplayer modes et cetera, and well under $20 for sure. if it meets all these stipulations, it would sell loads. otherwise I don't see good things in it's future. I'll hold out to see whats in store for XBLA.

I'm not convinced about the comment regarding Tetris XBLA. Its only mentioned in a passing word. Almost like "Well, I don't know when its coming. I know we're not handling it so I can't answer that question." instead of "I don't know, but it is coming" as nearly everyone assumes he means.

If THQ has a hand in the arcade release (as a publisher I would assume they would), I figure they'll just toss a slap dash single player port in an effort to not cannibalize their own sales.

Kinda scary that this made it to release with almost zero talk anywhere. I love Tetris though and I'll be picking this up tomorrow using the GGC @ Best Buy so $27 isn't that bad I don't guess...

I will buy this when its < 10 dollars used somewhere. Why? Because Tetris is always fun, acheivement points are cool, and it'll be cheaper or equal than owning the live counter part.

Well like I said, you can get it $23 shipped from buy.com using google checkout.

I'm considering on getting it, just tryin to get others views on it. I guess for $20 or less, it may be worth trying.

So what was wrong with Tetris Worlds? I never played it.

you may shoot me where I stand, but i'm picking it up for the easy 1000 achievement points, ohhh AND ITS TETRIS

K just bit. $23.39 from buy.com

I should get it in a few days (prolly end of the week)
I'll make sure I give you guys some impressions on the game. Hope all is well.. ::crosses fingers::

Easy 1000? Looks kinda tough...

anyone got tetris on their phones? well my friends so good at it he can play it forever. literally.

I've played about 20 games online now and had zero lag besides one guy who quit twice when he got in trouble near the top. Played a couple offline as well and i'm happy with it. If you are a big fan of Tetris it's probably worth it otherwise you can just stick with what you've got already and save your $. :D

Game modes are marathon, ultra, cascade, race, score, hotline, go low, eraser

it seems if you set the background to pictures it runs much smoother

easy 1k, took about 5 hours

and i spent an hour on just one achievement :(

Pretty fun game overall I mean it's Tetris...with achievements and for only $30. It's definitely better than Tetris Worlds in my opinion.

For those that have it please tell me if its got Tetris Square? Its the one where you build those gold and silver 4x4 squares. Thats the only game type I care for.

No, there is no Tetris Square in this version. The modes are: Marathon, Ultra, Cascade, Race, Score, Hotline, Go Low, Eraser and Online.

Does "Cascade" play like "The Next Tetris" on PS1? I loved that game; it's my favorite Tetris of all time. The scoring/ranking system in multiplayer was brilliant.

I never played Next Tetris but here is the description of it from the manual:
Clear lines that cause cascades and receive bonus points. A cascade happens when blocks falling due to lines clearing causes other lines to clear.

I got it for $25 + tax at Best Buy, using the $5 off any 360 game coupon. My impressions:

What's special about this version? Well, like Lumines it has a ton of great player customization options. There are video backgrounds, slideshow backgrounds, and still backgrounds, as well as over 300 player icons and 25 music tracks (including the classic Tetris theme).

The game supports four players offline and online, either competitive or playing independently of each other. HDTV's widescreen ratio suits four-player very nicely. Many Achievements will be easy for skilled Tetris players, but some of them (like doing 3 Tetrises in only 3 moves) will take some time to get.

Finally, there are lots of options, so you can make it play a lot more old-school if you like. I haven't really delved into the new gameplay modes, but they're there for the weirdos who don't prefer Marathon mode.

in the multiplyayer can you play 2 people on 1 360 on live so for example me and my wife could play together on live vs whoever, that is one the things I didn't like about FF2.

Thanks for the solid impressions. I just ordered this for 32.xx shipped from Newegg - I finally found a use for the $15 off $30 paypal rebate I signed up for last month.

I bought from ebgames for 30 bucks you get your money worth IMO, The 4 player online matches are fun, The many Game modes are cool and give the game alot replay value. I would have to give the game 4 out of 5. oh i would have to say the full motion backgrounds are cool and the music is great.

does anyone else think this is just alittle strange.... SPAM
Achievements are a bitch for this game. 100k in marathon for 5 points? DAMN!
my marathon record is 2.3 mil . not on the 360 version though.

Why would it be spam i new to the site and just gave my opinion next time i just keep it to myself

So my copy came today from Buy.com

I gotta say, I'm a pretty big Tetris fan, so the $23 I paid for is really well spent. I'm liking this game alot and it's true: The achievements are a biiitch in this game!! But it's still fun.. I haven't tried it out online. I'm gonna do that soon.

One of the easiest achievents is "play 100 games" LOL

sorry it just sounded to perfect is all, like you were trying to sell it to us. and the fact that you just opened an account just speaking from experience.
How would you guys compare this to Tetris DS in terms of how it feels compared to it, along with the online aspect?
Tetris DS > This

BUT, this game is not bad at all. Very similiar to it, (just of course no Mario, Link, Samus, Yoshi, etc running around) and the online is fun. No powerups like the DS version..but 4 player vs is still pretty fun & can be intense :)

Tetris DS comparison:

Tetris DS supports 4-players online, and offers 3 total modes online, with absolutely no options that you can set and no way at all to communicate with other players.
Offline, it has like 5 extra modes and a few options, yes. Most of the extra modes are crap IMO, as with any Tetris game.

Tetris Evolution supports four players online with about 5 or 6 modes you can play, many, many configurable options, and of course, voice chat. There is no comparison between Tetris DS and Tetris Evolution online -Tetris Evolution smashes Tetris DS there, and hard.
Offline, Tetris Evolution has just as many modes as Tetris DS, but still more options, music tracks, backgrounds, etc.. Not to mention that I can play Tetris Evolution on my large HDTV with four people on only one system, none of which could be done with the DS version.

Tetris DS has only 2 conceivable advantages over Tetris Evolution: the Nintendo-themed backgrounds and music, and 8-player local (offline) play. The Nintendo stuff is nice, but it can get repetitive, especially online. 8-player is awesome if you can ever get more than 4 DS systems together in the same place (I have a few times) but it's not like people do that all the time.

The achievements aren't that bad. I was able to get all 1000 points in three days. The hardest one was figuring out how to get eight cascades.

You are forgetting the biggest advantage of the DS version.... portability. While it may have fewer options the option to take it somewhere outweighs extra background images and soundtracks offered in Evolution, imo.

I do like Evolution though.

Hey wow, Paul actually posted.

I don't know about "easy", I have yet to get that on Hexic and I'd say I've played just about 100x if not more.
