Texas Hold Em: XBLA - Free from 8/23 for 48 hours, 800 points afterwards

The slow pace of play is terrible (at least in the single player mode). The pace in the multiplayer is a bit better, but then you usually have to put up with 4 out of 8 guys going all in on every single hand.

Nearly every free online poker service on PC is much better than this.

For free--pick it up and get some fun with friends, I would have hated to have paid money for this game.

Played a bit more, doing pretty well, got up to 114 on player rankings. As good as I'd want. I'm up a good 20k or so since I started. There are too many idiots who go all in on nothing so I mainly play on the pot limit tables.

my only real beef with this is having to wait to start when you join an existing game. And when somone quits or joins the whole thing gets thrown in whack.

Probably be best to play with people on here at the least...

I think there's also a lot of people who just plain don't know how to play.

I've only played for about an hour or so online but I can't tell you how many times people have folded instead of checking. On top of that I've actually seen people that were big blinds, without a raise, actually fold when it comes back to them. Uhhh duh?

Anyone play any single player scenarios? Can you save? I played for like 2 hours on one scenario, down to 3 players left at the table. One guy that went all in all the time who I was slowly taking down, and another who would call for anything and I was having to just blind out 20,000 at a time while he sat on like 2 million in chips. I couldn't see that I could save the game and got bored, so I hit the power.

Feel free to add my gamertag if anyone wants to play. I've played poker for 20 years, and hold 'em for my last few so I'm not a bandwagon player who doesn't know fuck....

Of course not. Why should you be able to do a simple thing like that in a game that could take hours? fuck this lame excuse for a poker game.

I played a little bit online yesterday people were doing the most ridiculous things. The blinds are $3 and $6, how do some of these people end up opening the pot for hundreds of dollars or even going all in preflop. The raises I've seen preflop are way out of whack compared to what the blinds are. There really is a bunch of donks playing online but when you wake up with a hand or hit a monster flop it will be over for them and you'll be saying please reload sir.

Yeah, I'm not the best Hold Em player, but I think I know enough to not be stupid. I actually played with some woman who said, "I really don't know how to play, so I'm trying to learn" and when almost all in before the flop every round. I'm not complaining that much, cause when I left that table, I was up $10k. Haha. But its annoying. I hate when people raise a couple hundred for no reason before the flop. There are a lot of people who have no idea what they're doing. That's why I wish I had friends who have the 360 also, so I don't have to deal with stuff like that.

Oh, and I also played with someone who liked the sound of his own voice. Constantly talking is annoying. I guess he thought he was funny or something. He kept saying, "I have a pair of 5s! Oh, I got a straight!" And all this stuff. I guess he was trying to bluff and there was no way to do so without the camera. I wanted to punch him through the headset. That should be an option when they update this game.

All the more reason I'll keep to single player.

yeah I joined a room that a friend was playing in and it was out of control in there. People dropping $1k pre-flop and raising every turn. One guy was yelling the whole time which was actually kind of funny for little while but it got old. I think Xecutioner was in there for a little bit but I'm sure he tired of it too. Now, I don't mind ghetto but it got a little too ghetto in there.

It really goes to show that poker without your own real money involved is doomed to forever be a sub-par game.

I agree. For every hand that you play for the 360 version, you could have completed 3-4 hands on one of the poker games on the PC. They need to release an update or something to help speed the game up a lot quicker.

I think there needs to be some real life consequences somehow, like maybe if you go say $50000 in the hole the game deletes itself or something, or you lose all your compettive money, I dunno. But yeah, unless it's people you know aren't gonna play like assholes or moeny's involved it's not much fun.

I thought that turning off animations might speed it up, but nope, we still need to hear the 'proof' that the cards are being shuffled and then dealt. I really hope the change their minds and keep this a free download or much anger shall abound.

It most certainly got ghetto... all I heard was, "Negro Handbook" and then my internet went down for the night. Oh well, at least I got to play with you guys. :)

I think this is the wisest statement made so far. I played last night on my neighbors xbox. The first few rounds are all about weeding out the dumbasses who go all in. There was one guy everyone called "All-in Rob" because he goes all-in every time. I don't see how that is fun. Oh well, this game blows.

I was actually looking for you later in the night about 9:30 Central. I got off TH and jumped on Chromehounds. I was looking to get you added to the squad.

Speaking of folks on the friends list, another terrible part of the game is the 'competitive multiplayer' where you cannot invite friends (cause everyone would cheat I guess they think and they cannot deal with a way to solve this 'problem') Instead if you want to play for the money in the competive slot it you have to play with 7 random people of which 5 will be all in every hand every game.

You can't save during the scenarios. But the scenarios are timed. If you don't beat it when the clock runs out, you lose. [Edit]Nevermind, I'm an idiot. :) But I swear my timer was going at exactly one round per hour.

Then again, I've only beaten 3 scenarios so far. The 2 players ones are ridiculously easy since all you need is one or two good hands to go all-in to take down the other player.

I could see the "conservative" scenarios taking a very long time, if you have to slowly work your way down through their pots. So, maybe that one has a much higher time limit set on it?

I don't play poker, but my brother does, and he seems to love how much money he's won from people who don't know how to play poker.
Agreed, IMO it's not a very well put together or thought out game, even for somehting so simple. And considering the time it spend in development that seemingly makes it even more disappointing for me. Some of the poker games you play in sports bars seem to work better and better implemented.

Also, something needs to be done about quick matchmaking for competitive games. Every tourney I tried to match to wouldn't let me play because the buy-in was too much. If that's the case why exactly is that a match for my profile?
I don't think that it was the time in development that held it up, but the legality of the online casino sponsorship

I enjoyed the game quite a few of us had about a hour ago, Mr. Ryles was host, I don't remember everybody in there but it was fun

hey i'm up for playing anyone here for fun :D. Currently playing as TomoyoChan Though since my girlfriend's accoutn has live for 2 more months. Then I can finally reinburse my gold cards for Disciprine.

The game is fun...finally played this. I had a good time...got my bankroll up over $2500 in a short amount of time. It's fun, except when you get annoying 12 year olds in there...screaming and bitching. It was fun to take all his money aafter he went ALL IN every hand.

So, I figured out how to have fun. Only play tournaments. Since you can't buy yourself back into a table, people who don't play well and go All In early will get eliminated and leave the table. I just played my first one and won. It was pretty exciting. I don't know if I'll ever play the non-competition games anymore, its just too annoying.

One annoying thing about tournys are if you get stuck with a real annoying player you could be playing with them for a real long time...
