TGS to reveal Endless Crisis : FFVII for PS3?
teehee

I never knew (or forgot) how vulgar this game was lol. I played it on the PC when it came out (didn't have a psx then), but now I'm playing it on the PSP, and boy the translation really does suck lol. And man...i don't think it hit me at the time, but Hojo tried to get Red to bone Aeris! lol
Yeah, the game certainly got away with a lot and kept its teen rating.
profanity, cross-dressing, bestiality, oodles of blood, murder, racial stereotypes, gentleman's clubs etc...
I expect the game would draw much more negative attention with an HD ultra-realistic rerelease and the addition of voiceacting.
Pop Quiz: Rank the following in order of highest to lowest processing power:

Sega Saturn, Playstation 1, Nintendo 64, Atari Jaguar

Rank them again in price, and re-rank them again in Marketshare.

Then do the same price, power, and marketshare rankings for GC/XBOX/DC/PS2.

Then tell me why Square has chosen the PS1 and 2 for their games.
Well they choose PS1 because, primarily they liked the storage space of the CD, and at the same time, they didn't have a good relationship with Nintendo. FFVII sold about 9.8 millon[on ps1] at the time of FFVII release, there weren't 9.8 million PS1s.. FFVII helped the PS1 get to where it is. I understand your point, [even without doing your minigame] and as I mentioned before, you don't develop games for the present market, you plan and develop for tomorrows market.

If the Japanese weekly sales for Final Fantasy 7 look anything like the following, I think your claim might be a little off
Can you provide some evidence that FF7 had an attach ratio of over 100%? Thats quite interesting to me, since I had never heard it before.
that 9.8 million is worldwide sales for FFVII... that was from wikipedia. Not an indication that it had an attach ration of anywhere near 100 percent.

Did I say a damn thing about a FFVII remake on Wii in my post? I'm confused.

Dallow's hardstar avatar is the ony thing that makes this thread okay.

Thomas's devotion to Sony makes me ill. Why do you guys feel like you've got to prove something to everyone? Just enjoy your damn machine and get on with it. As for developing for tomorrow's market, that's exactly what Sony IS NOT doing. They are developing for the "bigger, faster, prettier" crowd, while Nintendo has shown that they were more forward looking in their move towards the non-gamer. The one who really saw the future shows in the sales.

The PS3 will continue to chug along as it always has being the high end, high price system, but it will not be the market leader this gen. That ship has sailed, and an entire year of monthly 3rd place sales ensures a 3rd place generation. But that's cool. Gamecube stayed in 3rd and I enjoyed that system's games more than any other. It'll be okay. Games will still come out for the PS3, and it'll do just fine.

 no, but seriously, when will the fucking androgynous spiky hair trend end!!! Shave off all of Cloud's hair, put a cigarette in his mouth, give him some scars and chest hair, a pirate hat, and start a trend of bald-headed manly pirate protagonists.

that's east asia for ya
just gotta deal with it. lol
Just a little more muscle and a little less girly figure would be nice

Though FF7 did have Barrett. Does that count?

Barret didn't influence the next 10 years of jrpg protagonist design like Cloud did so, no, not at all

Final Fantasy 7 is my favorite Final Fantasy by far, but I really hope they don't remake it. People need to move on.

Do you think games like Chrono Trigger, Einhander or Brave Fencer Musashi would have been made had Square constantly recycled old Final Fantasy games like they do now?

Yeah, as much as I love Final Fantasy 7, after FFX's improvements on the battle style, I'm sure FF7's battle system would feel a bit simple and slow. FFX managed to inject just a slight bit of strategy into every single battle. By about the halfway point of FF7, there's zero reason to do anything but mash the X button in random battles, because it works just as well as anything else, without using MP. The problem though, is if you change things, people will bitch and moan even more because it's different.

It also seems fairly stupid to remake a game for a platform that can still play the original version of the game.. And it's only 10 years old.

Well FFVII anything is good for any system. crisis core, does 470k in the first week, then 100k psp(s) sold in that same week. When you have a game that can push units and hardware like that, then that means its time to start developing that game.
A little off topic but anyone else find the name "ENDLESS Crisis" for a FINAL Fantasy title a little ironic.
I did.
Sorry... I havent been paying attention to the thread. Thomas96 vs. Strell is just to damn interesting.
Is the Wii really the PS3s competitor... because if this game was coming out on Wii then you really wouldn't have much of a game. We've all played the Wii version of this about 10 years ago on PS1. We don't need another one. Games sell systems, so if anything is going to reverse the PS3 position, or at least turn the tide, its going to be a game like this. No one wants to play a lame Wii half assed [excuse my french] "oh this is for the casual RPG gamer now" FFVII remake. That was one of the main joys of FFVII, because it was a game that really pushed the envelope for games during its time. A game like this [assuming that its the hotshit we're expecting it to be] is totally justifiable on PS3, at the 500/600 dollar level. By the time this game comes out.. which would probably be some time in 2009, the PS3 will be at a better price range, and they'll be a bigger user base; I forgot which sony rep said this.. but it makes sense.. you can't develop games based on the present market you have to develop games for how the market will be in the future. A HD FFVII remake is a lot more attractive than a wiggle waggle RPG fest FFVII.

- I'm back on topic now... keep the train moving.
Really? I mean, really? I can't be the only one thinking how sad this is. The thing that's going to finally put Sony back where it wants to be is a g-d remake.

Come on, man, you're completely overestimating the pull this game would really have. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan and I loved FFVII, but I'm not shelling out that kind of cash to play a game that's already been made, and ultimately won't be all that different. Note that I piss away money like it'll give me cancer.

S-E should be (and hopefully is) focusing more on developing new properties, and a helluva lot less on all these Final Fantasy re-hashes/spinoffs/energy drink potions. And you all should be encouraging that, rather than claiming that Final Fantasy VII HD could somehow be Sony's white knight in the console wars.

It wouldn't be surprising though. notice how this gen has been like 90% retro/remakes/rereleases?
Nintendo doesn't need to be at TGS... and either they dont' have anything [new] to show, or their so arrogant, that they know they don't need to be there, and don't want to bother wasting money to set up for the show.
Historically, they have almost never gone to TGS.

Final Fantasy is one of the top selling franchises of all time.
Just like Nintendo renews their greatest, I don't see a problem with S-E doing it as well. I don't think it should be a straight rehash, [i.e. New Super Mario brothers] I am hoping for something with the original FFVII with a spin off, like another chapter in the advent children story would be nice; but a remake isn't all bad though, and depending on how much work they put into it, it might be good. I agree with you 100 percent, that S-E needs some new stuff, I agree that sony needs new IPs - I'm pulling for White Knight too. But when you know you got a hit you got to flaunt it; LOL.. its like a woman with a nice body, she knows she's got the goods, and she's willing to flaunt it; so don't just flaunt it one time, flaunt all day everyday. Sony is like any man.. "hey girl come flaunt your Final Fantasy at my place.. PS3. Give the game a shot.. you already saying you're "not shelling out that kind of cash to play a game that's already been made, an ultimately won't be all that different" yet you don't know anything about the game, what does, or does not make it worth 60 dollars. Its not like having a blockbuster remake of FFVII is going to make people NOT buy a PS3.

I'm going to the DS boards, because I know that you guys aren't on the DS boards complaining about FF remakes that its receiving.

Thomas you don't know anything about women.

Or about being a man.

So you shouldn't use metaphors that incorporate those things.

Remakes are nothing but a fresh of breath air, and a good excuse for experiencing something you've already have.

Remake everything I say.
I'll pick what I want to play again.

I would like to see this remade, since I have only seen it played (wasn't in the playstation scene at the time).

6:21: Woah. THIS JUST IN: So apparently we just heard from Jeremy that they're probably going to announce the FF7 remake here. He says "Final Fantasy 7" (no details) is listed at the Square Enix theater.

So does anybody know what this was all about? lol

FF7 at least deserves a re-release, even if they don't remake it.. just slap the thing on a single DVD without any other changes or something -- it IS a gold mine they don't seem to want to tap for some reason.

Didn't EGM confirm the remake (with no proof) like last year?

And I agree the atmosphere was the main reason why I enjoyed FFVII so much.

Midgar is easily one of my favorite RPG settings of all time. Sure, you're only there for the first 5 or so hours, but it's pretty much perfect while you are there.

I love the game overall though, despite the hate it seems to get from everyone now.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see FFVII getting much hate at all.

If they remake it I will have no problem shelling out $60 for it.

funny you mention that-- ever since my first play through when the game first came out, I've picked it up a few times, only to get bored and quit right after Midgar.

not every game starts with blowing up a reactor!

the first hour or two in Midgar sure is pretty exciting. I just got out of Midgar playing on the psp and things have slowed down a bit lol.

I rotated the camera on the psp and now the camera view is kinda low down so i can't really find my bearings right now lol. To switch the view back is L2 button but...well there is no L2 on the psp lol

A FFVII remake with FFX-2's battle system would be the best. That was a fast and effective real time system. (albeit stuck in an otherwise bad game) I also would accept FFX's battle system, although it's turn based, and that would probably piss some people off.

I could see them going for something more involving, like a Kingdom Hearts type of system, to make sure the appeal is huge. Maybe something in between FFXII (pseudo real time) and KH (mindless mash fest)
