Thanks for mentioning the 360 blades!

First off, Congratulations Cheapy! I'm a father of a 4 y/o and a 6 m/o and let me tell you, it's going to change you in ways you never could have imagined. Oh and sleep now, because once the baby comes, "sleep" will just be a 5 letter word you hear your friends talk about.

Okay with that out of the way, I want to say "thanks" for bringing up the issue of the dumbass advertisements on the 360 blades and how they cover up the themes. I've tried to bring this up on multiple forums and the fanboys start freaking out on the various forums about how Microsoft needs to have it to make money. I always say "WTF" do they need MORE money for when I'm paying $50 a year for a membership AND paying for a theme. Their advertising makes the theme completely pointless. So thank you. Please be sure to tell Major about how F'n stupid it is when he comes to visit. Make it happen.

Oh and yes this is my first post, but I've been a listener for at least the last 50 or so podcasts. I just haven't felt the need to join the forums to post about anything, even when I disagreed with Wombat about people being Game Journalists/Game Critics.

Again, Congrats.

I agree. If I'm still getting ads and paying full price for everything (Gold Members should get like 10% off purchases...), what's the point of paying $50 a year?

the ads have gotten out of hand the past couple of months...I don't remeber them being so big on every blade last year.

IMO if I have to look at the damn things, then whomever is doing the advertising should be paying for my Live Gold subscription. Basically I'm paying for their advertising and it pisses me off. I have pictures of my kids on there now, and it covers my daughter's face. That's BS. I couldn't imagine paying for all kinds of themes (which I think is stupid anyway) and then not being able to look at it.

I, as well as the friend I play 360 with most often, have no advertisements on our dashes, which we believe is as a result of opting out of some kind of marketing. However, we both receive the emails from Microsoft and to the best of our knowledge there is no way to change this setting. (Frankly, we both kind of the way the ads look)

Just wanted to mention that I guess the ads aren't mandatory, but I have no idea how you end up without them.

Not even on the "main blade" of Live? Like the Sublymonal ad? I went to the setting/console blade and opted out of the marketing thing but still always have garbage that takes up the right half of the blades.

They don't bother me at all, but I most certainly agree that both ads and a subscription price is too much, especially since there's not even any subsidization on subscription costs.

The one thing that does bother me, though:

When they have the special marketplace pages up, say, for E3, the only way I know how to get there is to click on the ad. But with randomly changing ads you have to keep flipping through blades until the E3 blade finally comes up.

Why the fuck can't I get to the E3 (or the comic-con, or whatever the fuck I want to get to) page from the marketplace?

Im not online most of the time so the Adds dont bother me too much. When you are not on live there are no adds covering the themes. Of course I never buy Themes and I only get the free ones so that is probably part of the reason I am not bothered by them.

The only time I am on Live it is to play online or DL from the marketplace.

Every time the Major or some other MS blog asks for 360 suggestions, I bring this up. I'm paying for live, stop with the adverts.
Just curious, how do I "opt out" of these ads?
It doesn't really work, but I think it's under Settings and Family settings or something like that. I did it a long time ago, but it's virtually useless.
