That Triple E3 2008 Thread
Okay, to be fair, there were games.

One PSN game, one exclusive that everyone expected and some sequels to some fairly well received PS3 games.

There was *no* emphasis on the kind of PSN downloads that Japan are getting and that we *should* be getting. (IE Xenogears, Einhander, etc). Nothing on Siren Blood Curse (doesn't that come out next month?), nothing on that other PSN game I can't remember the name of - the semi-interactive one with the weird looking tentacle thing, nothing on Flower, nothing on highlighting the kind of original content, like Echochrome, that the PSN is starting to get.

They blew a big chance there.

My *hope* is they're scambling in the background to try and get a few exclusive titles for the system, particularly RPGs, because the lack of third party exclusivity is starting to look pretty grim.

Besides Resistance, was anything announced for PSP? Anything at all?

*No* Home date....again. It's starting to become a joke along the lines of Duke Nukem 3D.

So many blown chances.
PSP had buzz, Star wars Unleashed, and the two new bundles, plus PSP does get to partake in the video service. In this type of presentation the PSP are just there because they're Sony products and Sony is compelled to show them, same with the PS2.

Pixel Junk Eden was shown, along with Rag Doll Kung Fu, and Rag Doll Kung Fu. But hell, I can't say that Sony couldn't have done better, Instead of GT5 Prologue TV shows, they could have been showing some White Knight Story, the weird game w/ tentacle monster, more White Knight Story.

This press conference needs to see games that are on the way this year, not HOME, that we know is going to have limited release.

That new Destroy all Humans: Path of Furon is that game a PS2 game for the PS3. I saw a trailer of it, and looks like a PS2 game.
Ahh, were we watching the same conference?
I didn't get to actually watch the conference, I was at work. I've just been trying to piece together what was said by Sony through various sites and msg boards. So, if there was something that was mentioned that I think wasn't, it's my mistake - sorry.

Probably my biggest complaint with both MS and Sony is spending time focusing on features like video services, dashboard features etc. which are things that could be covered in press releases, instead of taking up space in the conference that could be used to promote games.

Are you kidding? They showed off nine PSN games (Crash Commando, Fat Princess, Flower, PAIN, PixelJunk Eden, Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, Ratchet & Clank, Siren, SOCOM).

Home's been fall since the delay. It does them no good to announce a date until they're sure they can hit it.

Loco Roco 2, Patapon 2, Super Stardust Portable, and Resistance were shown for the PSP.

AHHHH, that explains it.
What is the universal sign in thing? I read it over at kotaku:

http://kotaku.com/5025491/sony-announces-single-sign+in-for-psn

Is this going to be for PSP online games? Or is this just for the store/purchases? One thing that always annoyed me was that every single PSP online game had you create a different SN.
I think it's more for so you can view trophies and invite friends on your PC a la xbox live.
Anyone else notice the lack of HiDef content in the new video store? I guess I expected more.
yeah, most of the stuff isn't hd. And the hd stuff they have, maybe 20-30 movies are all rental. The only ones without the rentals are sd. Sort of weak on the hd stuff. But I don't think I'll be paying $4.50 for a HD rental since I can just rent the bluray for the same price. They should be a alot cheaper, since you gotta download them, which with my mediocre connection would take a full day to downlaod a 720p movie, if 1080p forget about it.

If FAT PRINCESS is even half as amusing as this picture, I'm buying it day one

Oh ok. That makes more sense.

Siren looked pretty good. I hope it turns out well.

nooooo, if they put all that HD content for sale via the PSN store, then Sony may hurt their bluray market.

I got a question... The PS2 bundle that was shown I think may have been the most important part of the show imo. Does selling PS2s in any way lead to more PS3 sales in the future? [perhaps by the time, Sony released the PS3 slim(or redesign)? ]

I think Sony knows the longer they hold people off from going next gen the better PS3 will do. The whole point of the conference was the PS3 is still at the beginning, and 360 is peaking.

Dont take me the wrong way but how does selling last Gen Hardware, instead of your next-gen hardware, help Sony at all?

I'd expect it helps make up some of the losses on the PS3, as the PS2 must be dirt cheap to manufacture now.

Money aside, I think it's a short-term solution to what will become a long-term problem, as more people by PS2's and are less interested in PS3's since they just bought a console... especially since most PS3's now won't play any of the games they buy for the PS2. It's kinda ridiculous.

the best thing they couold do is keep BC on their system......Right now.....the games aren't really there so they need to give reasons for people to upgrade to a PS#.....not take them away.

The bundle was for Lego Batman, which should tell you it's being marketed towards the youth crowd. Mom and dad would be much more willing to pay $150 for a system with a huge library of cheap games for their kids instead of $400 for something with very few E-oriented titles compared to the rest of its library. Then, when junior grows up they've got themselves a loyal customer.

People who buy a PS2 today, are going to be more apt to buy a PS3 later on. I still think that they need to drop the price of the 40gb systems this holiday season... by selling the 40gb at a cheapter level you get people looking at the system, they may say... well at the 350 price tag I'll go for it, then when its out of stock at the store, they're say oh what the hell, put in the extra 50 (fiddy) and lets get it.

I'm still shocked that people are still buying PS2s. I figured if you wanted one, you would have had one by now. It's only been 8 years. I'm glad they are still supporting it though. Hopefully PS3 gets the same treatment.

There's still a vast majority of people out there who can't afford 360s, let alone PS3s, or even Wiis for that matter. A PS2 at $150 with pack ins and a huge library of cheap older games is great for that market.

I mean, walk into any dedicated game store and you'll see racks of cheap used games, a good portion of which are still very good games, just old.

And the drop in graphics/gameplay is not as well defined as it has been between past generations. Hell, put motion controlon it and you've basically got a Wii. Like was said earlier, the longer Sony can get the consumer to hold off the next gen purchase, the better it is going to be for the PS3, as it ultimately is in the best position long-term.

As I've said in a few posts, I only hope Fallout 3 doesn't suck. I'm also looking forward to Bioshock since my computers graphic card lacks the one shader that all new games seem to require. I'm also not sure how I feel about God of War 3, I really liked the first one, bought the second one, it was fun but nohitng that different, 3 better be amazing since I have a feeling it will lack that initial awe factor that the first one had.

The Wii can handle a lot more than the PS2. I mean the difference between Gamecube and PS2 is still pretty significant.

That said, the PS2 is in my opinion the greatest system of all time. It has everything on it, from Genesis games to Final Fantasy. There is something for everyone on it, which is more than can be said about the Triple.

I think the Xbox 360 is the closest thing we'll have to a PS2 this generation. I hate the controller and the green aesthetic, but the PS3 is a pretty ugly machine as well. When the redesign drops, you can bet I'll be much more interested.

For now I'll enjoy Persona 4 and my huge PS2 backlog. It's good to know that if my system goes, I can pick up an awesome bundle for $150.

I realize the Wii can handle more than the PS2, however, you would still be able to do most things a Wii can do with a motion control scheme on the PS2 with only a slight graphics downgrade.

I'm surprised no third party has made a wiimote for the PS2, Sony wouldn't be able to get away with it because they need to promote PS3 more, but for some third part to do it with some type of sports game or something would bring in some major cash.

True. It seems that everyone I knew at my school and any of my friends had already moved on past PS2 onto a 360 or Wii. I guess Sony figures those PS2 people will move on to PS3. I'm not so sure, but time will tell.

Nintendo let alot of fans down with this E3, anyone think that the Wii hardcore crowd will focus [and purchase] more on PS3 and/or 360? I still feel like its not good to cater to the casual, because they'll love you for a while, and never look back at you. (i.e. treasure trolls, beanie babies)

Why do people still call the Wii a fad? We're approaching the year two mark fast and software and hardware is selling.

It's not a fad, get over it.

I think a lot of Nintendo faithful already bought a PS3 or 360. The casual definitely aren't going to buy a PS3 or 360 because they don't play a lot of games. Going after that crowd at this point is pointless right now.

I don't get to play games a whole lot maybe 1-2 hours every night sometimes not even that, and sometimes more it depends on what I'm doing. Anyway my wii hasn't been turned on in forever. I only use my 360, and ps3 lately. I use to be a sony fanboy I'll admit it,but now I'm not so sure I just enjoy games on whatever system there on.

The 360 will NEVER be a PS2. It's the jrpg system of choice? There isn't even 10 jrpgs in the US yet. It's way too early to call a winner. And to get PS2 status you need to have a vast majority and rule in all regions. The 360 only rules in the US and isn't so vastly ahead that everything pales in comparison. If anything is going to reach PS2 status it's the wii.
Read my post good sir... "closest thing".

The Wii mostly resembles the Gamecube in its library, it's just a million times more popular.
I did. The 360 doesn't have exclusives. Most of them are TIMED exclusives. The honest truth about the HD consoles this generation is that there's so much overlap that when you say Call of Duty 4 it's not even identified with a console anymore. It's just Call of Duty 4.

Well, I'm pretty sure Xbox 360 has the most exclusives and the most multi-platform games.

Therefore it is the closest thing to the PS2 this generation.

That could change over time, but right now it is what it is.

Actually that's PS3. Granted they aren't all huge like Resistance 2, Killzone 2, but we do have some weird ass shit coming like Elefunk, Little Big Planet, FAT PRINCESS, Wiepout HD and so much more stuff. I will grant that the 360 exclusive that I want is Alan Wake. But in all honesty besides Fable 2, the halo games, Alan Wake and Banjo, I can't really see any truly exclusive 360 games as they are either multiplatform or timed exclusive.

It has a ton of games that are not on PS3, have you been to the store?

I'm not saying they're good, but you can't argue that there are more games on the 360 period.

I didn't want to name call but I think he might just be a viral marketer.
