I thought this article was an interesting read. It discusses who CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) believes are the 13 most corrupt members of congress and their deeds:

Interesting read. I will have to stick up for Santorum a little. He's a scoundrel for enrolling his kids, but someone at the BoE either isn't paying attention or is getting paid. Also, I'm starting to think all weather forecasters suck. Current weather: one channel it's 83, another it's 74 and another it's 102. This is everyday, not just a random occurance. Forecasting is just as bad or worse.

I'd agree that they're stretching it as far as linking Santorum to corruption.

His six years of 95%+ voting in synch with the White House is frightening, and his religious war rhetoric (in the sense of a culture war rather than terrorism) and willful ignorance towards issues of sexuality is dismal enough. If you want to get him elected out of office, you have plenty to go on. I don't think corruption is one of them.

I swear, the next politician to bring up a same-sex vote, I'll lynch them. A lot of gay people don't want to get married anyways, the benefits aren't any better (according to my friend). Let's have a better waste of time, for example, with a huge Senate Twister party.

It's amazing how popular some of these phony propositions are. Flag burning, same-sex marriage, etc. (I'm drawing blanks on other examples right now) were immensely popular each time they were brought up with the American people.

I wonder how long it's going to take for people to realize that many issues like these are just nonsense politics, and demand accountability from their congresspersons. Illegal/shady activity is certainly the domain of the corrupt, but someone who proposes a bunch of bullshit bills (like George Allen stealing Dick Durbin's appropriations bill the other week, for example) should certainly make one considered corrupt.

In somewhat of a retraction of my last post in this thread (about how Santorum "isn't that corrupt,") I'll say this. I don't like the fact that I can read about Santorum, or Waters, or Blount, and think "meh, they're not that corrupt - they're no Cunningham!" It embarrasses me to think that I'm that accustomed to politicians being fucking sneaky pricks, that they have to achieve a spectacular Duke Cunningham/William Jefferson level of corruption to get people's ire.
 
What is interesting is that they are all multi-term congressmen & women, I wonder how many have been re-elected after the corruption stories broke...

Shocking, no - interesting yes.

I work in Lake County, Indiana - Lyndon B. Johnson once said "If you want to see corrupt politics in action visit Lake County, Indiana"
There are a plethora of politicions serving multiple terms after being busted for this scandle or that. It's just interestinf to see how resistant to change people are.

Don't underestimate the public's ability to think corruption is a problem with everyone else's district but theirs.

Even for people who have ample evidence that they're crooked, aside from William Jefferson (dude is CLEARLY guilty), it seems that they have to be convicted for their corruption, a la Duke Cunningham and Bob Ney, in order for the public to finally "get it."

And, of course, lament how they could have missed the corruption all along. :lol:
 
It's interesting that John Conyers is not on that "list", among countless others.

It could be becuase the chairman of CREW is an ardent Democrat, and former aide to mr. Conyers, worked under Joe Biden, and Chuck Schumer. All convenient omissions from this definitive list.

CREW is about as objective and as grassroots as MoveOn. org, or a Democrat fundraising event.

I would never argue the contrary. Fox news is the balance opposite the fulcrum from all the other TV media. This site is biased by omission, and GLARING omission at that.

Maybe I'll start my own site and call it "Truth in Politics". Then I can lambast 21 democrats and 2 token republicans and fool people into thinking I'm just an average concerned citizen.

Actually, she did lose her seat in 2000 or 2002, I believe. Unfortunately, the moron who defeated her decided to run for Senate, opening the door for her return.

So, I heard Melanie Sloan of CREW on Air America this morning on the way to work. Knowing her affiliation with other groups of vastly liberal persuasion, I find bmulligan's contention of CREW's liberal bias compelling. We live in a day and age where groups and orgs with vested biases and interests give themselves such blase names that one must research the background of every organization that puts out information so as to have a clear idea of what perspective they may be starting from.

At any rate, knowing this, why don't we assemble out own mish-mash of corrupt politicians? Start with your own state, if you must; you're probably better informed about it than the rest of us.

That's easy, as I have already posted about Jim Moran, who I have to unfortunately admit is my congressman. He's corrupt, has a temper and blames Jews for stuff. In other words, he's a corrupt idiot.

Of course, just across the river in DC there are tons more to choose from, so that is too easy (Maryland too, frankly).
