The 2005 NBA Draft Thread
We should be the ones getting Sean May, not the Bobcats. :bomb: They seem to be going for a hometown team this year.
Don't worry, Phoenix should be setup well for next season.

Though I am a Phoenix fan, I'm saying that as a Cavs fan, as we originally had the pick and traded it away. Free Agency is our only choice to improve and even then I don't have faith in the franchise with Dan Gilbert at the helm of this sinking ship.

There's lots of free agents on the Cavaliers right now, interesting situation. Best bet is to build around L J for the future.

Time to let Zydrunas walk

Crap I missed the entire first round.

But im looking at yahoo and
Bogout took first as expected.
things look good for Bcats.
Utah got another white guy.
Atlanta may come back. ( I like the Hawks)

Why did Hornets take another guard? JR and Dicky are good enough. ( I like Hornets too)

lol, i play varsity basketball and i have done that many times on purpose. It doesnt bother me at all and if your a dirty player accept it. No one gets mad at bogans but he is the same way.
im also a cavs fan and joe johnson is the answer to everything if we can pick him up.
Joe is going to be asking for the max and Cavs have a pretty good sf in LBJ.
Yeah I guess, but they need some size.
While Zydrunas is a solid big man, he's not giving them what they need. They should look for a power forward or center who is going to crash the boards abd play hard defense.

I'd rather see the Cavs pick up Redd, as I think he'd compliment James much better than Johnson would, but I wouldn't mind having Johnson on the team either.

I'm hoping that Big Z doesn't re-sign as it seems he won't be pursuing it right away after his contract expires on Friday. He doesn't deserve the huge amount of money he's gotten for how he's played. They need a big guy definitely as Diop is not the guy you want starting at center either.

I'm hoping Luke Jackson get some playtime this year as he could be a great asset if he's able to play somewhere near as well as he did for Oregon.

I also hope the new coach can finally make a final decision on the McInnis/Snow situation as both are good players, but just playing one is a waste of talent.

i think its good for charlotte, they have may and felton now two guys who played together in college, and two hometown guys...

plus theyre moving into a new arena this year, these two will help sell tickets

When did Kurt Thomas become so good that he's worth both Quentin Richardson and Nate Robinson? or is there more to this trade than what I've heard?

He's decent, but not worth that much

Charlotte, wtf?? Both May and Felton?

O-v-e-r-r-a-t-e-d!

Sheesh, at least take McCants before Felton!

I think May can turn into a decent Forward in the NBA, but Felton was not the best PG for this team. I would have rather traded down to get Garcia or even Julius Hodge at SG if possible.

Brevin Knight could have run this team for another year at least.

Come on, someone take the other Graham brother. They both can play great and I went to high school with them. I still talk to their older brother every now and then.

I laugh reading espn.com and cnnsi.com and others with their 'instant analysis' of tonights draft. What is funny they have been putting so many stories out there about 'nba draft bombs, biggest mistakes in drafting etc'. Everyone thinks they drafted well tonight, but only 4 years from now will we be able to tell.

This whole thing is kind of like rating how well your marriage is going to be after your first date.

A combo of May and Okafor is quite scary. Felton isnt bad either.

They are also hometown guys so locals will come to cheer on their college favorites.
Thats 2 good reasons why Bobcats took UNC guys.

I can't believe we got Gerald Green at 18, steal of the draft... This is even bigger than when Pierce fell to #10. What a great group of young players the Celtics have now... Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Marcus Banks, Delonte West, Tony Allen, Kendrick Perkins... Looks like Pierce is staying, but I hope Ricky Davis is gone, he's the reason why Pierce is only the 2nd most selfish player on the team, and he plays the same position as Green and Allen.

Thats Danny Ainge, after Gerald Green fell into his lap. Kind of like in Animal House, when the kid is reading a Playboy in his bedroom, and a Playboy Bunny crashes through his window. "Thanks, God!"

Well done Raptors, you fucking morons.

a PF...taken too early...WHEN WE ALREADY HAVE BOSH??

That's it, I'm joining the bandwagon of the next expansion team.

How can you call two national champions, one of which was MVP of the NCAA tournament among other awards, overrated? Someone also mentioned that the two are local heroes since they are from UNC. That fact did not escape the management, and will probably lead to more ticket sales.

Personally I thought Paul should've went to Charlotte, but the more I think about it, the Bobcats did well with Felton. Paul arguably carried Wake Forest while Felton was a cog in a team full of NBA-caliber talent. Felton is now on a team packed with raw (i.e. very young) talent... I'm excited about the possibilities.

I believe they did not pick McCants was that they already have Kareem Rush and Tamar Slay.

Brevin Knight could have run this team for another year at least.
At least with Knight, they can still keep him on board for veteran leadership.

All in all, this wasn't the most exciting of drafts, but was the first I've ever watched from beginning to end. I think Bobcats and Hawks (for once) made some good picks, and Toronto made the most questionable one with Villanueva -- though Ukic is supposedly like a Croatian Ginobili.

All of your other points I can agree with, but after watching game after game where Felton makes stupid mistakes, I really think he is overrated.

The end of the first Duke game comes to mind, where he threw the ball away and Carolina lost a close game. We can agree to disagree on Felton I guess.

May was a nice pick, but I would have gone elsewhere with my first pick - maybe draft the best player instead of the best player to fit a need. (And then trade that player to Portland like Denver with Jarret Jack for example)

But a lot of people are agreeing with you on this, so if I am wrong I will be the first to say I am wrong.

I read that Magic Johnson and some other rich dudes are going to start a team in 2008.
Rumor has it that its going to be the Honolulu Sharks. I forgot where i read but i remember it was from a legit site.
I doubt there will be a team in Hawaii tho, its not connected to the States. Closer teams would have to boat there.

I think either Vegas or Kansas City would make great cities for future NBA franchises.

Travel would definitely be too much of a pain for Hawaii to be a legitimate place for a team. Kansas City would eb an interesting choice as it would be bringing basketball back to a place that had a team long ago. Personally though, I think further expansion is a bad idea. There are already too many players who get drafted that have no business being in the league.

Kansas City would have a big fan base. It is a great sports town.

Is it true that Magics may be moving? Anyone know to where?
