He purchased the team before the cap came into play, but he did not assume control until the offseason before the cap.

Kraft would be a big spender, right there with the Redskins and Cowboys. He's probably very happy theres a salary cap, I don't think we're valuing his franchise in the billions without it, but he'd be a top 5 spender and still make money like the Red Sox do without it. You can't not make money in a TV market this large.

There are franchises in the league today that wouldn't exist without the cap, like Green Bay.
i agree....

Forgive me Mets fans.

I'm so pumped, though.
so to the met fans, do you blame randolph as the manager and would you like to see him fired?
I think the players are to blame the most. They have been totally inconsistent all year.

I do however put some of the blame on Willie and I think they are in need of a change. Personally though, I see them giving him the rest of the year to try and turn it around. If things stay the same I think they need to get rid of Randolph and Minaya.

Since the reports that are out are claiming that minaya no longer has the say in if they keep randolph, I would imagine that minaya time there is shorter then cashmens in the bronx

Congrats Doug Davis on his first start since returning from Thyroid cancer. Anyone else see the story about the minor league player that was traded for 10 bats?
TRADE
This is a little off topic but does anyone want a coupon code for newera.com? It's a $10 off a $50 purchase code that I got when I received my free hat from MLB 08 The Show. You can have it as long as you promise not to buy Brewers or Cardinals merchandise ;), j/k.

Anyone see that ball hit off Valverdes face last night. The savage stayed in and got the save.
Oakland all the way. Boston can't fade us.

Luckily he got his glove up just enough to partially deflect the ball. That took some balls to sack up and stay in the game and earn the save.

willie has to take some of the blame but not all. his players lost the swagger and they dont seem motivated to play or gut out a game at all anymore. and thats where it lies...i dont think willie motivates them if at all. he is even having rough relationships with Reyes,Feliciano and such. its probably a reason why Reyes looks stagnant as he is. he is no where near the form he was in 06 or even last year before the collapse. maybe a firing could sprak the club..it may not...i just hope jerry manuel does not take over. he is even more calm and collective than willie is. Boy, i wish Bobby Valentine was still here. if he had this club, i would like to hope or think that all the players would be having fun and wanting to play with swagger. Its also killing willie becuase he has met way below expectations of a team that is or was expected to make it to the World Series. as of now thats a distant memory. the mets have some hard work to do.

I will give him till the end of the season and make my judgement.
do you think he will last to the end of the season?
I highly doubt Willie will be there by years end. There is talk if the lose the series to Colorado he might be gone.
The Yankees are back, my friends
Because they won 5 in a row against last place Baltimore and last place Seattle?

for some reason, the redsox fucking suck on the road...the are 10 - 17 on the road and have been swept on the road by tampa, toronto and now oakland...as of now there are only 5 team in the MLB that has a winning record on the road.

while I don't think the yanks will make the playoffs (due to lack of sp) there offense hasn't really performed up untill recently. Yes they have been playing mediocre/crappy teams, but that is what good teams are supposed to do, beat up on the crappy ones. While giambi is not the guy they thought they were getting with the signing, he shouldn't be a .200 or so hitter, and cano was around .200 as well before this offensive explosion they have had recently.

We all know wang is a solid pitcher in the regular season. Petite is either getting older (and has had a history of injuries that has tolled his body) or is really bothered by the clemans issue this past offseason, but he should still put up decent numbers over the course of the season. IMO mussina is pitching a lot better then what he is right now. The big ? for the yanks will be how will rasner due his 2nd time around facing teams. How will jobba due throwing 100 pitches a game. We all know he is rather unhittable throwing 1 inn. Last year his numbers and mph on fastball dropped a lot when pitching a 2nd inn. Will he lose command of his fastball when he hits 70 or so pitches in a game? What are the yanks going to due when hughes comes back. He was pitching horrible, kennedy up untill his latest callback was even worse then hughes. Will rasner continue to put up impressive numbers for a guy that has a mediocre reportoire, but pounds the strike zone? The yanks should score runs even though they have a bunch of players out of there prime and they also started as bad record wise last year and still made the playoffs.

Oakland. He did that fist pump thing and Miguel Tejada thought he was giving him the jerk off gesture.

One of the many injustices Oakland fans feel they've suffered.

tired shoulder...highly likely he will miss his next start...if he does miss it, most likely he will be replaced by clay buckholtz for that start...he is listed as day to day
Teh Franchise is straight nastyyyyyy.

2.33 ERA, 76 K's, and 7-1.

CY YOUNG BABY
1.31, 76 K's, and 7-2.

I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Edison Volquez. He might have something to say about that. Had it not been for the marathon game against the Padres the other day, he'd only have 1 loss. Still, they are both young studs.

Volquez is filthy too no doubt, I still think Webb will probably take it even though he's been a little shaky for his standards.

OMG the mets actually came back and won a game. If Tatis can keep hitting like that...i think he has found his home finally. Drag Bunt last year and now a homer to tie it this year. i love it when endy becomes clutch....

Sorry im just happy to see the mets comback in a game. they were 1-19 when down 2 runs when it hits the 8th inning. hope this the spark we are looking for.

Edit:

even heilman pitched two great innings. if he can start pitching the way i think he can...than the bullpen is starting in the right direction finally but im not getting my hopes up yet on him. still tons of game left

dice k was put on the 15 day dl with a mild rotator cuff strain...looks like they have lined up masterson, not buckholtz, to pitch for the redsox on monday.

Don't expect Tatis to keep playing like this. With the way the Mets have been so inconsistent this year, I have no faith in them keeping this up. Hopefully they prove me wrong though.

Fun fact: Fernando Tatis is the only man to hit 2 Grand Slam's in one inning. That's the only thing I ever knew about the guy.

I didn't know Josh Hamilton was traded for Volquez...pretty balanced trade.

Yeah, though it is better for the Reds. Now all they need to do is shed another OF salary and they'll be alright. Especially if Bruce stays up at MLB the rest of the season.

Just depends on how long Volquez can go, lot of young arms get burnt out, hopefully his doesn't.

Chan Ho Park gave up that HR. Funny thing last night Chan Ho came in to pitch and they talked about the Grand Slam's a few times during the game.
The Yanks are starting Joba on Tuesday, which sounds crazy to me.
He will be limited to about 70 pitches. So it's not to crazy.
i remeber that...tejada was so pissed...i remeber him bitching because his kids or kids in general where at the game
Now he has to explain to his kids why he was having needles stuck up his butt and why he aged a few years in a days time.

I haven't yet heard the explanation of why Volquez was used in relief AFTER ONLY A DAY OF REST. Don't tell me it was a side day, because it wasn't. They will ruin his arm, count on it.

I'm looking for some fantasy advice guys...

I'm having some trouble in my infield. Right now I've got Adrian Beltre at 3rd, Rickie Weeks at 2nd, and Stephen Drew at short.

Trading to strengthen these spots is not an option at the moment as everything I've sent out for these spots hass been shot down. So I'm looking to add from the free agent pool.

At 3rd, Mark Reynolds is available. would adding Reynolds and Dropping Beltre be a bad idea?
Other options available: Cantu, Iwamura, DeWitt, Crede.

At 2nd available options are Orlando Hudson and Iwamura. Is Hudson going to play the rest of the season as hot as he's been lately?

Short has been a huge hole for me all season. My initial draft here was Khalil Greene. Here I am thinking of dropping Stephen Drew in favor of Jhonny Peralta or Orlando Cabrera.

So what do you think guys? Should I be making any of these moves or should I sit on what I've got at the moment?

Take Peralta, I own Cabrera and he's struggling, though he is stealing bases lately. I used to own Stephen Drew, but I dropped him and picked up Cristian Guzman, who is hot right now.

I picked up Freddy Sanchez to backup Dustin Pedroia at 2nd, he's doing pretty well for that position.
