Yikes, wasn't that same spot just called a strike?
Didn't see the game, so my question may have been answered had I watched it. Would that pitch have struck someone out. thus making the sac fly the 3rd out?

That was a god awful throw from Drew. That close and you still can't get it within 5 feet of the plate? My daughter can make that throw.

Dodgers/Phils have played 10 games this year and the home team is 10-0. I don't think the Dodgers are in trouble, they just need to hold serve like the Phils did. Move that absurd long corner in the outfield in 10 ft. that the Dodgers kept finding a way to hit to and this is a 1-1 or 2-0 Dodgers series lead. The Dodgers hit two balls to that corner farther than any Phil has hit any ball, including their home runs. Both would have been 3 run bombs.

Seriously, what in the bloody hell is with Howard not able to hit a curveball? That's just flat embarrassing.

Stop calling Kazmir our ace!!!!!! He is not our freaking ace. Jamie Shields has been the better pitcher for two straight years....anyway that was an amazing game. I was there for the whole thing. Freaking exhausting though

That was an intense game last night, was awesome to see the benches clear. Should have done the inside pitching on Friday though. Oh well need to take three at home and pray for one in Phily.

Most analyst call Kazmir your ace. Kazmir is 2 years younger, has 40 more games started and they put up very similiar numbers. Shields had 2 more wins this year, kazmir had one more win last year. Kazmir has the better era both years. Shields has the better whip both years.

The game wasn't amazing, it was fucking ugly. Both SP sucked ass and were grooving flat mid/low 90's fastball down the center of the plate.

It was a fun game to watch, especially with no investment in the teams.

So who's going to throw at who's head first in the Dodgers/Phils game tonight?

I hate the Red Sox and all of their fans but the baseball nut in me really wants to see a Manny/Torre vs. Red Sox series. I love watching the Rays though. As long as the Phillies lose I guess I really don't care... 5-0 Rays in Game 3 right now though...

Damn Sox got rocked.
I'm not counting us out till we lose four anyways. Hopefully Wakefields knuckleball dances well tomorrow.

Yea it'll dance right off the rays bats...suckas

And just because "analyst" say kaz is our ace doesnt mean they are right. Those so called anaylsts at ESPN don't give a crap about the Rays. They know little. To them its Mets, Red Soxs, Yankees. No other teams are important.
Kaz had far fewer starts this year. Strike outs dont = ace. Why is that the only thing people like. Honestly its a joke at times

I think Wake is ready to step up. Anyone else think the Sox, if they get beat the Rays, big if right now, should be worried about Beckett?

Beckett is still injured so by all means he can pitch against us. If you guys had another option I would go with that person but I don't think paul byrd is much of an upgrade at this point.
On our side we need to start price instead of kaz. He has been terrible the last 2 months

I just want to see some signs of life tomorrow from the Sox. A strong outing from Wake will go a long way. Hopefully the knuckleball isn't flat tomorrow, or it could be a long day. I think Francona should switch around Daisuke and Beckett. Give Beckett the home start and Daisuke an extra day of rest. That is all assuming the Sox don't lose 2 more games in Boston.

I can understand why you think Shields is your ace. he pitched about 50 innings than Kazmir and his numbers are just a little worse.

Shields:
2008 TB
G GS W L SV CG SHO IP h r
33 33 14 8 0 3 2 215.0 208 94

ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA
85 24 40 160 3.56 1.15 .254

Kazmir:
G GS W L SV CG SHO IP h r
27 27 12 8 0 0 0 152.1 123 61

ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA
59 23 70 166 3.49 1.27 .220

numbers should serve the argument.
good to see cocci get a chance considering how bad ellsbury has been hitting. Would like to see casey over kotsay.
I was a little iffy on Kotsay's defense but he's been real good. He's been hitting well, too.
Rays/Phillies is going to be a good World Series.
Im a big time dodger fan and can say phillies/ rays are the deserving world series teams.
but its goin to be a boring series.
ratings are goin to be real low. i might not even bother watch.
The baseball World pleaded for Manny vs. Red Sox World Series.
wen they get Philly and Tampa Bay, it will kinda be forgettable.

Go Lakers!!!
I wonder what sort of odds Vegas was giving at the beginning of the season for the Rays to win the World Series?
Better yet Rays versus Phillies odds.

This feeling is the same feeling I had when we were down 3-0 versus the Yankees, except this time were down 3-1 and I don't think we are coming back this time lol.

You thought you were coming back in 04?

Somewhat jokingly I told a co-worker we were gonna win the next four straight. Of course I had no idea that was really going to happen but my co-workers kept asking me for a crystal ball for years. lol.

My crystal ball is just pulling up someones avatar featuring Kim giving me the bird. lol.

\\:D/\\:D/\\:D/:whee::whee::whee::boxing:
50-1 was the consensus for most places.

A writer for the USA today had us at 50,000 to 1.

As far as Jamie being our ace. Its not only the numbers but the consistency, the innings, the big starts when we needed them. If anything Garza has the best stuff on the staff. If kazmir can get his slider back and continue to develop his change up along with the walks going dowm (under 70) he will be great, but until that Jamie will be our true ace.
He may never reach 200 K's(184 last year) but he has had 215 Ip two straight years, never had an injury and he works ridiculously hard in the off season(his cousin is Aaron Rowand).

People throw the word ace out to easily. Being an ace isnt just about the sexy numbers

first off kotsay isn't hitting. .235 for the playoffs and that is after a 1 for 3 night. He has had a couple of multi hit games and a bunch of 0 fers

As for an ace, no k's don't matter. IMO it is wins and the ability to keep your team in the game. You quantified it based on the past 2 seasons. Shields has a slightly better winning %, but kazmir has the better era. If both pitchers are 100% healthy, and I have to chose one of them, it would be kazmir no questions asked. He is the face of your staff. Just like Beckett is of the sox. Both had off seasons, both have had horrible outings throughout the year, and both started the season on the dl. If you are a veteran like both of them are and your spring training is all ducked up due to injuries, you break your routine. Both of them have lost command of the fastball this year and both lost the touch on the outpitch. The only concern I would have for kazmir is the workload he has pitched on such a small body at such a young age.

No way dude. I've been waiting 20 years for a playoff series victory. Hell, I'm just stoked we beat the Cubbies, a superior team.

Bummer, I was pullin' for the Dodgers :/

I changed the channel though when Billingsley had a chance to strike out the batter with two on bases, and the guy ended up with an RBI >.>

I would have preferred the Dodgers winning, obviously, but I'm happy for fellow GHS alum Jayson Werth. He's a good guy and I'm glad he gets a chance to play in the World Series.

Yea you dont know what your talking about. I wouldnt pick kaz period. You have limited perspective. Jamie has some of the worst run support in the league. Kaz is basically a left handed Dice K. Jamie is consistant. Kaz is not. I respect your opinion but coming from a Red Soxs fan it doesnt mean much. You say kaz is the face of our staff. You know why? Becuase he strikes people out and ESPN thinks thats sexy.Jamie would of had at least 18 wins last year if the bullpen didnt suck. He is the better pitcher

Wow, who knew the Phillies would have made it to the series..and i cant believe im fucking saying this. but Congrats Phillies, you guys deserved it.

as for rays/sox...who knew because i sure had the sox winning lol.

The WS should be interesting this year. If the Sox do get elminated, Its two teams who came out of LF....I love sports for this kind of parody. Im not rooting for anybody because im not a fan of both teams but it should be some great baseball. Well atleast the rest of my sports team havent fallen off yet like the mets.
LA got beat by the better team, just like they should've a round earlier.
I guess that's the difference between deserve and earn. The Phils earned the right to get past the Dodgers. The Cubs earned the right to cry more.
Thanks Furcal!
No kidding. Talk about an implosion. That was epic.

I am kind of turn between the ALCS. While I'd love to see them come back, I'd hate to see the Sox get to the 7th game, only to blow it. So if they're going to break the "Nations" heart, then they might as well do it sooner, rather than later.

I will say this, the best 3 teams are still playing baseball. It will be one hell of a World Series either way, though I'd pull for the Phillies if the Rays play them. Great story for the Rays, but I just don't want Florida to be perfect in the playoffs. But I'd still be happy for the club and their diehard fans, not the ones the bandwagon ones.

With all of that said, go Sox. And push Beckett to game 7, assuming the team makes it there. That way if they do, they've got a Beckett that is due for a huge game and I think he'd get it done with the season on the line. Plus if the Sox somehow manage to get to the WS, it would be set up with Daisuke and Lester at home and Beckett and Byrd (don't dare pitch Wake at PHI). Those are all assuming that the Sox make another miraculous comeback.:pray::pray:
