Yeah definitely, watch some sucker team sign him for six years and he goes back to dogging it.

I wouldn't give him any longer than 3 years personally.
Yeah but he apparently wants a 150 million for six years. Yikes!

Dodgers will need to figure out their pitching first I think, Lowe is expected not to return and what do you do with Penny?
yeah the dodgers have quite a few issues right now and they have Andruw Jones who is sitting in Triple A i think and TONS of money! L

here are the Dodgers Worries:
Lowe FA
Furcal FA
Blake FA
Ramirez FA

Penny finished the season with a 6-9 6.27 ERA and finished it on the Disabled list...plus he is due to make 9.25 million this year.

do they go after a big name FA like Sheets or Sabathia or even Burnett, Do they trade for Peavy(who has opened his No-Trade Clause to LA), or do they let it sit with Billingsly as your top ace with Kuroda behind him. Also Pierre just finished his second year of a 44 Million dollar contract. What do you do with that? On top of that they might lose their Assistant General Manager Kim Ng to Seattle.

this is the gist of the article from the LA Times.

They have alot to answer.

Live feed for the game is up at mlb.com

some comments from the espn chat:

brian spfld mass: Power outtage in Atlanta, game will be on Tv hopefully in about 25 minutes. according to radio weei.

Dan (Atlanta, GA): I work here at the Turner campus, and something very technical, (way above my knowledge level) is down right now. Believe me, we're all as frustrated as you are. I couldn't tell you when we expect it back, but people are flying around everywhere trying to get it done.

Better than nothing I guess, the quality sucks.

Technical difficulties happen, but they couldn't put anything better else on than the Steve Harvey show!?

Edit: We got game! 0-1 already, Beckett is fucking up.
gotta blame MLB for accepting tbs offer. I was bitching about the coverage last year
MLB will take the highest offer regardless... The Family Channel used to carry games every week.

I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but everyone that knows the Heimlich, please proceed to Tampa Bay immediately. Your services may be needed shortly. Cubs fans standby to offer counseling and support.

That would be a good idea, considering the Red Sox have been choking this whole series.

The Red Sox should have been in the lead 3-2 in the series easily but they don't know what they are doing.

No matter what the Phillies have no chance, the NL sucks. :)

I don't get how the hell shields has the moniker of big game james...this is the first year that the rays haven't been towards the bottom of the MLB. Shields was 2 - 2 vs boston this season, with over a 5 era...0 - 0 vs the whitesox with a 1.5 era in 1 start, 2 - 1 vs the angels, 1 - 2 vs the yanks and 0 - 0 vs min in 2 starts with an era over 6. In sept the team was 3 - 2 in starts he made, as he went 2 - 0. How the fuck at this point in his career is he even considered a big game pitcher. If he was such a big game pitcher, then during the crunch of sept with your battling for first, I would hope you could do better the 3 - 2 when you play the orioles, tigers, yanks, bluejays and twins. The only team that was any good in that group was the twins.

As for the series, I didn't think the sox had a chance tonight. I didn't have a lot of faith in beckett being able to do anything, espically when I saw his fastball was topping out around 92mph. IMO, the rays blew the series. I believe that lester is a much better pitcher then garza. Espically when you look at the fact that garza is over 100ip over his career high and look at his starts from late aug on. Yes he pitched a great game last one out, (then again the sox were on a hangover from the extra inn loss) but that hasn't been the norm for how he has pitched over the past 2 months.

Yankees P Joba Chamberlain arrested for DUI
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_y...nkeeschamberlaindui&prov=st&type=lgns&print=1

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA (TICKER) —New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain was arrested for driving under the influence early Saturday.
The Nebraska State Patrol pulled Chamberlain’s car over for speeding on U.S. 77, south of Lincoln, shortly after 1 a.m., Deb Collins, spokeswoman for the patrol, told the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper.
The spokeswoman said the officer on the scene saw an open container of alcohol on the passenger seat of the BMW 75i and detected an odor of alcohol.
The Yankees’ righthander was taken to Cornhusker Place Detox and was arrested on charges of DUI, open container and speeding, according to Collins.
Attempts by the newspaper to reach Chamberlain on Saturday were unsuccessful.

The former Nebraska star was 4-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 42 appearances - 12 starts - for the Yankees in 2008.

The Rays didn't blow anything yet, besides game 5, because it's not over until all the games are played.

And to quote some Yahoo article...

Jon Lester starts Game 7 for the Red Sox on Sunday night against Matt Garza in a rematch of Game 3, won by the Rays 9-1 at Fenway Park.

no the series isn't over, but I like our chances a lot better in game 7 then I did in game 6.

As for lesters last start, the 9 - 1 lose wasn't all him. He only allowed 4 er in 5 2/3rds. That was one of his worse outings, there were only a couple of other games all year he pitched so poorly, and his next start he usually bounced back with a shutdown outing. His control wasn't there, and he wasn't the same pitcher we saw all year. The other thing to keep in mind of game 3, the sox had just blown game 2 in extra inn. Beckett gave up the lead 3 times in 5 inn...That will drain a lot out of a team and they played flat for the next 2 and 2/3rd games in the series.

During the season lester was 3 - 0 vs tampa with a 1.20 era. Garza was 1 - 1 with a 4.50 era. Garza career high in ip was 80 going into this season, I have no idea what his numbers were in the minors and how many inn he pitched there but his last 5 starts he was 0 - 2 and only made it out of the 5th inn once. Yes, lester is well over his career high in ip in the MLB, but I know that he was had a lot ip in the minors during the full seasons minus the cancer year. In sept, lester had his best month of the seaosn, (he did have his worse in aug, minus the 1 start he made in japan that was his only start in the month of march)

And yes tampa did blow the series. It should be over. They were up 7 - 0 in the 7th and coughed it up and gave life to a boston team that looked dead. Now they have to go into a game 7, with a young pitcher that has nasty stuff, but is a very emotional guy.
At this current point in each of there careers, garza is a mid rotation pitcher and lester is a front of the rotation pitcher. Who knows where they will be a couple years from now, but I will take a poised pitcher that had a great year going into a game 7 with your team riding an emotional high. No it isn't a lock, the rays have played some great baseball this year, but if I had money to blow, I would drop it on the sox in game 7. Then again, I would have taken the rays in game 6.

The one thing I am very happy about is cocco getting a chance to play, after how poorly ellsbury was playing. Very similiar to what happened last year when ellsbury replaced crisp in the playoffs. Going into game 5, pedroia had never had an AB with runners on base (or scoring position, I heard them comment about it on the broadcast of game 5)

:rofl::bouncy:

what a game! what a game. I almost counted the BoSox out at 3-1 but go figure they pull off a comeback like they always do.

Ive never seen so many empty and blank faces before in a dugout until i saw tampa's. I dont know how Tampa will deal with this kind of adversity. Game 6 should be a crushing blow to their psyche. they've done everything right but they make mistakes when they shouldn't and that puts them in the hole everytime. Maddon needs these kids go guns blazing and play mistake free baseball. If the Sox win tomorrow, be prepared for alot of heart attacks.

Big Ups to Jason Varitek who got his first hit and HR of the series after going 0-14 lol.

Cub's fan here...I've already talked to a Ray's fan about that today.

I dont know 'bout that....how does the NL suck? The Phillies got a calm additude about them and a great lineup that is hitting well right now. Sure they've been sitting around and prob. cooling off a little and sure Boston's got great pitching, but if I were a betting man I wouldnt call the BoSox a sure thing.

I'm just rootin' for a game 7, fun filled WS.

not sure, but it will be a long time between live game pitching for the phils, much like the rockies last year, the tigers 2 years ago.

I'm hoping the Rays can pull it out tonight. They have gotten further than I expected, but I really want to see them get to the World Series. We'll see.
No matter what the Phillies have no chance, the NL sucks. :)
I hate it when a person counts a team out just because they are in a weaker league or conference. I'm pretty sure 99 out of 100 people would say the AFC was stronger than the NFC last year, but the winner of the SB wasn't in the AFC were they? Same thing in the NBA.

the problem with the NFL analogy is that the superbowl is 1 game, where the WS is 7 games. The issue I see with the phils is starting pitching. Cole hamels is great, but it stops there. Moyer is ok but can get hit hard. He also avg less then 6 ip this season. That will put a strain on the bullpen. Blanton sucked with the A's. He is a mediocre # 3. I would lester or garza over him. Then they have the wife beater or hendrick for the 4th starter.

Well in the NBA, the Celtics were expected to win the Title, so thats a tough one.

well the eastern conf is the weaker division. But the celts dominated the eastern conference and played very well in there western conference games

The phils didn't win a series in inter league play. Lost to toronto, Boston, Oakland and Texas 1-2. Got swept by the angels at home. I don't know how the phils were playing as a team going into the interleague play

The Rays should have been in the World Series with a 7-0 lead in the 7th but they don't know what they are doing.

See that's easy to counter isn't it?

Regardless, tonight is the night that either the Rays will make the comeback seem like nothing, or the Red Sox will once again laugh their asses off and claim the title: Comeback Kings once again. The Indians and Yankees fell, will the Rays fall next? Or will they make the Red Sox luck fail at last? Time to find out in a few hours.

I think the question is whether or not we can stop calling these Red Sox comebacks historical or not. If they do it again tonight then it's a trend, and nothing is historical...

...except the Yankees collapse. That is still awesome.

Half an hour left. I cannot wait. I am obviously going to say that the redsox will win, because I am a fan, but my unbiased prediction is that regardless of who wins, it will be a blowout (5 run difference at least). My prediction last April that gas would hit $2.XX by this Fall was right, but I don't know if my economic predictions translate well into sports predictions. Either way, go Sox.
