The 2013/2014 NBA Thread (LBJ is a Cav)

Love how we responded basically same time with same things to say on Hawes. High five? :speaktothehand:

Gotta feel bad for Granger, injuries messed up his career and he tried so hard to adapt to a new role and got dumped in the end.

Gotta wait and see how Turner fits with the Pacers, this could really go either way.
Absolutely feel bad for Granger. He started out at the beginning of the rebuild process and now that the team is on the edge, he's out.

That said, he just wasn't fitting in with what the team is doing. He's a struggling shooter that plays mediocre defense. He's not really quick or very good off the dribble. I'm just guessing here, but I bet the second team scoring went down when he came back simply because he gets so many touches.

I hope he does get back to form and has a decent end to his career because he's a pretty good guy.

Hawes is alright. He can stretch the floor pretty well and he's a decent rebounder. But defensively, besides being a decent shot blocker, Cavs won't get much from him.
The Cavs need better depth at center and Hawes will be a better guy to be in that spot than Henry Sims has been doing for them lately. Plus, they get rid of dead weight in Earl Clark and two of the millions of second round picks they have that will probably not amount to much.

I guess if Cavs are satisfied with rentals than hawes would be good for this year considering both he and Deng would probably bolt after the season and i wouldn't blame them.

Yeah, there's a lot at stake when acquiring a backup/3rd string center. Criticize their lack of a big move all you want, but don't put the Hawes trade up as some kind of huge trade. They traded back-ups for a decent center to add some depth that previously offered them two points per game.

Granger looking for a buyout and according to a rumor he's pissed about being traded and may sign with the Heat or Spurs if he gets bought out.

Would Love to see him on the Spurs. I hope Timmy can win one more title before he retires.

Hawes is an underrated center. You'll learn to like him. He's got a very nice offensive game. Defensively he's nothing special but can rebound with the best of them. He's also in the middle of his best season so not a bad time to grab him.

In other big man news...Big Baby and Orlando agreed on a buyout.
Now the Magic can finally go with a Nelson, Oladipo, Afflalo, Harris, Vucevic starting 5.

Was a beast after six years in the league not knowing how to play at all.
He had no chance to play or develop in Portland while they were in win now mode, he was behind Rasheed Wallace and Brian Grant. The trade to Indiana was the best thing to happen to him as far as development and play time, and he was only 22 when that happened.

The release of MWP and Beno Udrih by the Knicks is imminent, anyone think either of these guys get picked up?  I think Udrih finds a home but not so sure about MWP.  If you look at that gif of Felton yawning during the huddle posted earlier, you can see MWP in the background with no interest in what's going on.

Udrih will probably find a team, a lot of teams were going after him before the trade deadline, but I guess the Knicks wanted too much.

MWP will probably have to retire, but I could see him joining a Chinese team haha.

Suns getting hosed hard by Harden flops and incompetent officials.  Parsons trips over his own feet and gets a clear path foul really?

Harden shot a whopping...9 FTs? That's sure a lot of flops . And Parsons was tripped by one of the Marcus twins which then caused him to trip on himself. So yeah, clear path.

Now on a positive note, both Beverely and D-Mo were clutch in the 4th and together pulled off the win.

lol yea keep those rose tinted goggles on. Replays clear as day showed parsons foot kicking his damn own leg making him trip even both commentators acknowledge it. Then you have Dwight stepping into the lane early during that crucial ft in the final seconds. Most blatant lane violation as they come.

This stupid ass Collins obsession is getting overblown.

Did you not read the part where I clearly said Parsons tripped himself? The replay also showed that one of the Morris twins rolled into his leg as he was running and this was the cause of the trip.

Arguing with you is pointless. Have you ever posted in this thread without a negative/bitchy comment? It's hard to believe you even like the NBA.

lol he whiffed on contacting with Morris head which was the closest to him.  Point is it shouldn't have been a foul in the first place but did and completely changed the momentum.

Man these nba players really need to know how to dress.

The Beard just put up 18 straight points to end the first quarter, and finished with 22 for the quarter overall. Just nasty.

Good call on Udrih. Memphis claimed him off waivers already.

76ers have reached a buyout with Danny Granger.
Yahoo is reporting the Clips as the favorite, though many teams are interested obviously...I'm happy if a) the Mavs grab him or b) the Spurs are unable to pick him up. They're being reported as a strong second favorite.

Has there been 1 free agent hte Clippers werent interested in?

Caron Butler is about to get bought out too, expected to sign with Miami if it happens.

Lakers.

I have the Nets vs Nuggets in tv as background noise and the nets are winning 31 to 8. 8 points for the nugs and the game is already into the second quarter. Charles Barkeley was right, there is some turrible basketball going on right now. We're about as far away from the greatness of 90's basketball as it gets.

I completely disagree. There's more talent top to bottom now than there was then, and the pace of the league is much higher. So much higher, in fact, that only two teams in 1995-96 had a higher pace (possessions per game) than the league average this season. Only the Memphis Grizzlies this season have a lower average pace than league average in 1997-98, no teams in 97-98 had a pace that bested league average from 2013-14, and Memphis' pace this season would have placed them 8th in the 1999 season.

Pat Riley almost single-handedly killed basketball in the 90s.

So it's better now because they run up and down the court more?

Brooklyn will be 21-9 after tonight when Kirilenko plays, 9-20 when he doesn't. KG is also playing much better these last two months. Chicago-Brooklyn would be an interesting 1st round series, though a couple games in the series might not make it to 160 points between the two teams.

In other news water is wet and nobody cares, not even sure the Lakers care as this point. They're Not nicknamed the Tankers for nothing.

At least they're not the New York Knicks:

Good shit Dolan, keep it up.

Yeah you're right, I'm sure nobody on the Lakers cared about getting their asses handed to them in historic fashion, on their home court, against a team who plays in the same city

Rockets got there payback tonight. Pacers gave us our worse loss earlier in the season, and we just returned the favor.

Really cool jersey retirement for Z tonight. Also great to see lebron sitting on the cavs bench supporting his buddy

For a team that supposedly cares about having home court advantage throughout the playoffs, the Pacers aren't helping their cause by losing consecutive games against inferior scrub teams. Maybe like the Blazers, they're falling back down to earth? It's also funny how the Heat almost always lose their game after the Pacers lose theirs so that no ground is gained in the standings. Must be competing for head chokejob.
