Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Or occasional bubble in pricing. P3p going for 400 and fire emblem por hitting 800. Xenoblade 1 and metroid prime being around 3x msrp. I nearly considered parting with my copies. but both p3p and fire emblem are in my top 10 favorite games and I just recently replayed them during the time frame where they were going for that. I did however jump on smt4a going for 145 was that was too ridiculous to not pass up.
Fomo is killing the hobby way more every other day. Doesn't seem like it wants to end

stop, my PTSD is kicking in. I can't imagine what I looked like trying to dampen that sound while my parents were sleeping and I was sneaking online in the middle of the night. How do you stop a sound that you don't know where in the hell it's coming from?
💀

I recall buying the original Atari 50 NSW CIB with steelbook and all included inserts "new" open display copy for only $24.99 a few years ago. I was like, "Ooo, shiny!" Best moment to burn TIV credit att, good times will be missed.

it used to be that when they did cash same as credit promos at Gamestop, California got a 50% boost due to pawn shop laws or something that didnt allow them to give out cash. but nobody talks about it any more, so i guess something changed?

Bought something online with my trade card, and the order ended up getting canceled because of availability. Will GS return the credit to my trade card, or will they issue me a giftcard?

Sadly most of the time i've been in this situation the resolution has been that they eventually mail a physical gc to cancelled order's address. One of the more frustrating moments I've had with GS is when a store pickup order was cancelled.. they emailed a physical GC to my name but with the store's address.

Should probably check your balance just in case. I know if it was an order you placed in-store, you'd definitely have to call them and ask for a gift card.

But if you made the order through the website, then it might go right back to your card.

Years ago I had this happen with an online order and they sent me a card in the mail. More recently I had an in-store pickup order canceled by the store, and the balance was restored to the trade card I used.

correct, but it's free on PS+ so why would I buy it now?

I'd buy it and am still waiting to. Must have a thousand PS+ games over the years and cannot play a single one anymore as I won't pay for any subscriptions any longer. Last time I had PS+ I only used it to redeem games and maybe played online once in the 12 months. I still have 18 months of paid for PSN cards and still haven't redeemed them.

It's only "free" for as long as you pay for PS+. Otherwise, you're deluding yourself.
(for me) kind of pointless to have a system and not have their online component especially when it comes to "free" games. Unless of course you never play online. Then I could see not having X, N, or PS subscriptions

With the exception of playing 'Rocket League' once, maybe twice a year for about a week, I never play online.

My wife and I play local co-op. None of my real life friends either play games or play games online either. When we play, it's also local multiplayer. My wife and I have the family Nintendo sub, but really it's only for her brother when he comes over a few times a year. He'll get on her Switch and play SNES games. So that's a bit of a waste of money honestly.

But really, there's too much I want to play to spend time in online-only games or online multiplayer modes. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just don't play them and rather play single-player games. I don't miss PS+ and I'll probably feel the same way when my Game Pass Ultimate ends.

Back in high school, though, I was on Xbox Live practically every night.

What games for local co-op? (other than Lego, Borderlands, and Diablo) are you playing? I am guessing you played through It Takes Two? Did you see Split Fiction? That looks interesting.

The only games I really play online now are Warzone and College Football (Friends and I have started dynasty mode), oh and Fortnite with my son (although he tells his friends they have to "carry me"....keep telling them to go over to Warzone...don't know what it is about Fortnite I can't get lol)

This just keeps getting worse..
It's never going to get better. Unless they get rid of Lord Dogfood, lose the meme stock status, and reinvest into gaming full spectrum, then they're going to keep turning into Gamer™ off-brand Hot Topic and slowly retreat to all but the most profitable locations.

They have solutions, like becoming VGP and printing high demand, low supply titles; getting into full range game collecting support (with condition based pricing); and actually catering to the hobby versus just a dwindling physical market. But since they won't, they will be tied to the physical supply of modern stuffs, which is growing smaller and smaller each year.

We did play through It Takes Two! Yeah Split Fiction looks like fun. We play through Mario games, Mario Party, beat em ups. We tried a couple adventure games like As Dusk Falls, where we'd make joint decisions. We haven't tried any LEGO games. I'll have to suggest that sometime.

Yeah, competitive shooters are just too time consuming for me. I don't have much time to play in general right now.

The Lego games are hit or miss. Our favorite is still the First Star Wars ones....We actually preferred the Lego games where you were forced to stick together instead of the transforming to split screen some fo them do. It's just odd, either be split screen or don't, the whole transorming as you walk away is too wonly :ROFLMAO:

I don't think people realize just how many Gamestops exist. Some bigger cities have like 5 or 6 of them within 10 miles. It makes no damn sense. And no one is ever in them unless you go to one in a busy mall on a Saturday afternoon or something.

Unfortunately even them trying to become a VGP would be too little, too late

Yeah I tried LEGO Marvel Super Heroes years ago with my sister, and the split-screen moving around was a bit jarring. I understand the attempt, but it's not great. I have plenty of LEGO from GwG, so we have options lol

Have you played A Way Out?

Wow, the one at Bergen Town Plaza closed already too. I think the closest NNJ GS would be in Wayne at the Willowbrook mall
Thanks for the note on Bergen Town Plaza. I rechecked my data and noticed I missed 6 stores, including Bergen, that also closed.

2262 - Plantation Square - Plantation, FL 33317
413 - Royal Eagle Plaza - Coral Springs, FL 33067
545 - Rivercrest Centre - Crestwood, IL 60418
789 - Riverdale Shops - West Springfield, MA 01089
1810 - Bergen Mall - Paramus, NJ 07652
7790 - Market at Lake Tapps - Bonney Lake, WA 98391

Only the MA location may be a newer closure, the rest may have closed end of January.

So, my pro ends later this month and I'm struggling to find something to use my $5 coupon on.

Can the pro coupon be used on in-store purchases of digital items (download codes)? I know it can't be used on currency anymore, but I wasn't sure if buying games was different.

No, all digital items are restricted. I used mine on $20 preowned copies of Mario RPG and Visions of Mana. But that was only available on 2/1 when those games' sale overlapped with the final Pro Day.

Look, I appreciate the hustle, I really do but the people into buying these things aren’t coming to you for the same common stuff they can get on Amazon or Walmart. This is just like their 4k blu ray entry a few months ago. They’re gonna have like less than a dozen titles that are widely available everywhere else. You need exclusives or a huge selection to draw people in.

They could do it, they could become a physical media retailer and they wouldn’t even need to carry a full line in stores, hell they even have the capital available to do it but they’re gonna half-ass it and everyone’s gonna ignore it.
