EDIT: Changed title.
Wow, two years later.

Trying to breathe some life into the PS3 board....
Taken from AVS board.

New Sony MMO.

If you're into this sort of stuff, this one looks different than the usual.

MMO are like any genre, they have a breakout title that everyone copies, and then slowly people will start to learn that not every game has to be made in the Everquest/WoW mold. We've seen that already to some degree with titles like City of Heroes (which at least got out of the medieval fantasy realms. We've seen the same growing pains recently in the GTA-style sandbox genre. All of this is to say, perhaps this is another sign of a change? I don't much care for MMOs, but there is certainly a huge market waiting to be tapped by some original takes on the genre.

This could be good.

is it just me or does that woman look way too bored from someone firing off a machine gun?

She's just that good Apossum. When you're that cool, you can make yourself look totally bored when busting a cap in people.

I've heard some rumblings about this for a long while. Never paid attention because they haven't been many details. Plus, when I hear "like Syphon Filter online" (has been mentioned before) I start to get my hopes up and I don't want to be disappointed! :)

Due late 2007? Yeah, right. More like Spring '09.

Anyway, it sounds great, and I'd be sold if it was free.. but considering that Sony touts its online service as being free, I'm expecting it to cost either 9.99 or 14.99 a month.

I'd pay 4.99 a month, that's not bad. 9.99 isn't too bad either.. eh, we'll see.

she's an "ice cold killer" after all... What do you expect?

This had already be semi-announced, now it's nice to see some details. This scould be interesting depending on how much they charge and whether or not it's any good. :)
Sony MMO's are usually garbage.

I'll watch it cautiously.
Sad but true. Although Planetside Beta was pretty fun but quickly went downhill after launch in my opinion.

This isn't a Sony MMO, but SOE. Different, separate companies. I can't say that I care. How many MMO's have been announced for the PS2, Xbox, PS3, and Xbox 360 that actually came out? Just FFXI, EQOA, and PSO?
I bet it'll be a richer deeper version of Syphon Filter's online mode. That was pretty fun.
Dark Mirror? How do you make a richer, deeper version of absolute shit?

I wish I could justify the online fees for MMOs. So far, I just stick to the free ones, even though I know I would definitely like some of the pay2play MMOs.

I found when I was playing MMO's I spent much less on other games. The real cost is your time.

I can't really get excited about an SOE MMO.

Dark Mirror is one of the best PSP games... Maybe you mean Omega Strain. Wasn't excuted well at all but the concept is still a very strong pull for a lot of people.

Never touched OS, but DM's online is complete crap. It's community completely ruins the game, as all they can do is blatantly spawn camp en masse (why you spawn in rooms with no doors or out in the open at the middle of the map, I have no idea) and type at a level that's somehow worse than AIM.

Well he'll need to clear things up but I thought he meant Omega Strain which makes sense.

I dislike DM online too btw.

Games too much on the horizon for me to get excited about it... I need to see some video or some more pics first.

Thing is a heard about this a long time ago so I bet it is further along then you might expect. Can't say when I did though.

Might be fun if there is a beta.

SOE is good about "great idea", it is pulling those together is what makes me worry with them.

I've liked the idea of a "Shooter MMO" for a while. Planetside tried it some, and Neocron too. But it is so hard for anyone to translate the single player, story driven fun into a online shooter like this...

He also mentioned a beta in the video, so be on the look out for that. Doubt it is any time soon, but I'd recommend registering your PS3 on the offical site just in case if you haven't yet.

Was the video seen already? Probably.

I kinda like that producer lady, Sherry Floyd.
Hmm, does she have a myspace?

Came across this today and it looks like signups for beta may have started or it's a signup for the beta newsletter for future registration or something. Anyways, here's the link:

http://theagency.station.sony.com/

Once you load the flash site, click the bullet. From there it's pretty self explanitory I think. They probably just automatically collect the e-mail from senders they get regardless of mail contents. Regardless I had put the subject as "The Agency" and included my e-mail in it while sending it from that email (which is linked to my PSN account).

If someone thinks that a new thread is needed for this, go ahead. ;o

You watched the video I linked just above this post- RIGHT?!

New company line:

The Agency is a fast-paced, online persistent shooter in a modern setting of bullets, bomb blasts, and betrayal. Live the life of an elite agent in a world of super spies and rugged mercenaries, who use both the highest technology and the lowest tactics to accomplish their goals. Featuring cooperative and competitive play, The Agency is designed to provide instant action and long-term strategy for all fans of espionage, intrigue, and explosive gameplay.
Key features

 • Become An Elite Agent: The Agency offers hundreds of unique missions with varied end-goals requiring combat, stealth, and style. With gameplay ranging from sneaky assassinations to all out assaults, from vehicle challenges to casinos loaded with mini-games, there's something for every aspiring agent.
 • Build Your Own Agency: As players advance through the ranks of their faction, they'll also begin building their own Agencies. Players will increase their power even further by creating Joint Agencies with others.
 • Mercenary or spy, the choice is yours: In the Agency, collect the right weaponry, gadgets, vehicles, gear, attire and aliases to gain access to various locales and influence over the people within them.
 • Put Operatives to work: Operatives are collectible non-player characters who provide the goods player's desire, the services to keep them alive, and allow them to concentrate on the mission at hand. Operatives work 24/7, regardless of whether players are logged in, and they can even keep them up-to-date through email and instant messages.
 • Fun Now, No Waiting: The Agency is not about waiting for the fun to start. At any point, players can take a break from their high-flying career to engage in a number of other activities. Veterans and new players alike can take on other players at the card tables, the shooting range, or in head-to-head combat.

I remember hearing about this a year ago or less! Then they just stopped talking about it.

A really awesome concept. I always wanted to play an MMO that wasn't boring crap, and since it's on the ps3 it should be free...right?

Even more reason to get it...but still not sure about it, give us a beta first!

Well it is an MMO, so there will be fees. They are still looking at what to charge and when, if you read the interview.

And as for a beta, they aren't even in the alpha build yet.

If this is free, or at least one tier of it is free, I will get it at launch, if it isn't. I won't get it at all, I just can't justify paying per month for it. Overall though it looks awesome.

Screw that then, lol. :D
Screw that then, lol. :D
The 1st reaction of must console gamers. That is why they seem to be trying to be trying to figure out the best way to do it.

It is an MMO os they are going to need money for servers, support staff, and content. I'm hoping for fair microtransations.

Pretty good Q&A from CES.

Couple of interesting things to me.

-Using Unreal tools.

-Three locales: Eastern Europe, Central America, and East Asia. Each of which contains different cities to explore.

-Small mission add-ons that will build up over time, instead of one large expansion pack.

-They are watching "FreeRealms" to see how well it does before deciding on their buisness model.

-Still deciding if they want PC/Ps3 players to interact with each other. ( I say make it happen!).

This, Uncharted, MLB the show, and that game where thats like a Superhero version of Crackdown(except you can decide whether to be good or bad) are why I bought a PS3. Any word on when this might be out?
They are doing some backpedaling and using the old, tired lines... 'keyboards and mice make it unfair" and not telling the truth about why they don't want to invest to do cross platforming between PC/PS3.
Bah, I was really hoping this would allow cross platform interaction. I have a lot of PC friends I could persuade to purchase it if I could play with them. Doubt I'll even pick it up unless they change their mind.

They could at least just have a few 'PS3 only' servers that people could play on, and give the rest of us a choice.

Depending on price, this may be an MMO I'm actually interested in playing since apparently things can happen for your character even though you're not physically playing (if that stays in at least.)

I just read in Gameinformer a MMO game called "Champions Online" will be cross platform out of the box for PC/360 owners. I think even during the demo test the reporters got to see both set ups together. It doesn't seem to be a shooter though, so the twitch relax might not be a factor and hamper controls.

They also have some info on The Agency. Couple of details:

-Missions can be solo'd, but they are also rated. If you want a higher medal, you most likely will need a team to help out.

-Higher mission rating equals more EXP, NPC operative rewards, and "cool gadgets".

-Missions are broken down into sections/mini missions.

-No zoom targeting on basic weapons. (guess you can get upgrades or certain weapons like a sniper rifle might have zoom)

-No cover system.

-Icons appear to tell you things you can shoot to effect the environment. Example was overheating a pipe to create a diversion.

I just love the living loot aspect. How you acquire operatives to send out to do your bidding. A great way to include a sort of crafting system, without the pointless boring grinding in other MMOs.

However, they'll still need more to justify this being an MMO, or at least make such systems very deep and complex.

Its SOE
Not buying another SOE game
They messed all 4 mmo from them i played
EQ: 6 month expansion plan sucked and broke the game
SWG; NGE
EQ2: EQ2flames+LFG
Planetside: turn the game into Gundam
