Most EBs should have Persona 4 in today, sans preorder artbook (I was told the artbook should be in in a day or two). However, they're selling it for $49.99 instead of the $39.99 (which is the MSRP), which is a pain for anyone who didn't pay it off already.

No problem, though: their website lists it for $39.99. Just print off the page (either http://ebgames.ca/ps2/ or http://ebgames.ca/ps2/sf2.asp should do) and you shouldn't have any trouble getting them to honour it.

Of course, if you're willing to wait a couple days, amazon.ca has it for $35.99, but that doesn't help those who preordered with EB.

(Edit: sneaky CAG, automatically changing amazon.ca links to referrer links... I had never noticed that before)

Gotta love price gouging. I ordered mine off Amazon when they told me it was 44.99, nice to see that they've increased the price AGAIN since then. I'd reccomend getting your preorder deposit back, creating a new Amazon account, adding another $4+ item, and using the MAPNEWNCSAVE coupon to get the game for around $30.

Yeah, it looks like Canada is being charged the Canada game tax again. I would have cancelled, but I wanted the art book.

Anyone know if the bonus CD was included in the game or is it something extra?

What the deuce... I just picked this up tonight with the artbook. I didn't realize they jacked up the price. Shenanigans! Those shady hoodlums planted that cool chick in line behind me knowing full well I wouldn't notice the new price.

Ya think they'd give me my money back?

The soundtrack is included in the game. The artbook is not boxed/wrapped with the game since it's about twice as big.

Did you get her number? :D

They should give you the money back if you bring in the receipt and the printout of their website ad. I would immediately print that ad because I could see them sneaking THAT up as well.

However, they can't advertise something and then sell it for more, that's against the law to the best of my knowledge (Competition Act) -- plus no business valuing customer relations is going to pull that.

Well they had to increase the price to pay their clerks to handle the pre-order/artbook complaints :p My pre-order is still sitting there with no artbook, as of course they didn't get enough in to cover pre-orders. No way I'm paying $15 more than Amazon if it's incomplete... Now to wait and hope my Amazon pre-order comes through, which I doubt, they've screwed me with the other 2 artbook deals...

Would printing off the add from the website and taking it back to EB Games actually work? Couldn't they just say how they forgot to update the website, or it was an error or whatever?

I was shocked when the price was jacked up to $50, I paid it without saying anything....but if I could get my money back, that would be great...what would I have to do, exactly? Print it off, and go up to them and demand nicely ask them to refund me the extra $10? And would I have to go to the same one I bought it at? Eh, sorry for all the questions >.

I picked mine up today. Got the artbook but never preordered. I thought "$50, wtf its 36 at amazon." but never said anything either. Then i remembered games like CoD:WaW and Fallout 3 selling for 65 or 70 at some places. These retailers are taking advatange of the low dollar.

I can't be bothered with taking time away from my time off to get my 10 bucks back.

Isn't the price of games going up in Canada because of our weakening dollars? I'm not in a hurry to get P4, there must be some better deals by the end of the year.

The dollar has gotten notably weaker lately plus Persona 4 is likely to be a major seller for them this christmas with the success of Persona 3.

If the website says 39.99 and someone walks in with a printout I can't really see too much trouble (assuming a manager is spoken to) and a preorder was made. The pre-order 'was' made when it was the original price in good faith, especially considering the company website even says the 39.99 price. It wasn't made with the expectations of showing up to find a extra $10 charge + tax waiting along with the game. At least that's what I'd argue. Most store managers I know would agree with that logic.

I was wondering what the catch was today when I actually got a phone call from EB (first one I got in 4 years despite preordering roughly 7-8 games in that timespan without the arrival confirmation call). Amusingly enough, the person that served me was visibly disappointed when they noticed there was a $10 override on the price since I preordered + paid in full a couple of months ago. I figured at the time it was the way they tracked the art books, though it makes me feel better now knowing this.
brought the printout got some bitchery but eventually got it for the advertised price. 39.99
:applause:
They shouldn't have upped the price in the first place

you people paying 50 bucks and not saying a word are apart of the problem. if you buy the game they will continue to jack up prices without concern. when i went to go pay for the game yesterday, they had the audacity to tell me 49.99. i was like, excuse me? and told them nevermind. i will be waiting on my amazon.ca order now. dont let EB think its ok to overcharge!

True true but some people preordered at EB only for the artbook. So thats why I made sure they knocked it back to 39.99 if it wasnt for the artbook I'd just grab it from Amazon.

Plus they kinda screwed me over on knigdom hearts. they charged me 34.99 when the flier that was put like 3 days later had it for 29.99

Yay for preordering the game hurting me!

I pre-ordered with the intent of getting the book. When I went to pick it up yesterday, I noticed he was just giving me the game. When I asked about the book, he told me only the first 2 pre-orders were entitled to it. When he rang up the sale, I noticed that it went up $5.00. I told him I don't want the game anymore since I pre-ordered it for the book and the price at that time was $44.99. I asked for my money back.

Agree with you on the dollar, but IDK about the popularity of the series. It has SO much more controversy than GTA and every violent/sexual game you can find, but it never gets mentioned because it's not a big seller.
It's not a big seller at all, it's just a big seller for its distinct RPG market, which is a pretty minimal market.
I guarentee that despite the price every single copy will sell. It's exactly that which I was referring to. How many games do they stock where every single copy is a guarenteed sale?

quick question if anybody can help me out, im planning to trade a bunch of cheap games to get this game.

what form of cash would i get if i trade it in?

is it a gift card?
or if its not a gift card, what is it? can i save w/e they give me and use it later on,
insttead of just getting it then?

i know they dont give me cash... so... can anybody help me out?
an edge card i hear u have to pay for so i dont think u get that....

so... a gift card?
It's an edge card that's not activated as an edge card. You just get a card that keeps your balance on it, you don't have to pay for anything. You seem to be thinking too much into this haha.

lol sorry, ive been thinking about this wayy too hard.
thank you very much for ur help :)

Soooo, it appears they jacked up the price on the website. I haven't had a chance to go back to EB since I bought the game last Thursday with the bus strike going on and my lack of being able to find some wheels. This blows. I guess I just have to make sure I return it before the 14-day period is over. Such a hassle...
what should I add on to the $35.99 to get free shipping?

>_>
Search the clearance book section.

I added 2007 Baseball Encyclopedia or something; it cost $3 and change.
Yeah the $10 off coupon still works, but they might have changed it's code a little. I think I just used MAPNEWNCSAVE the other day.
When i use that code it says "We're sorry, but this offer was issued by one of our international sites and may not be used toward a purchase at Amazon.com. Please refer to your promotional certificate for full details." Even though i'm on .ca

:(

Don't think it has been said, but P4 is back in stock at amazon.ca! two days ago it was listed at "shipping in 3 to 5 weeks" but was just updated yesterday. I had to cancel my order at first because it was still listed as shipping in january, but after I re-did the order with $10 coupon it is now fine and has shipped!
I just calculated that with shipping it would cost $39.94, so is there really a point to get free shipping, then?

lol
For the same price, you get a free stuff :)

Yup, so apparently EB (at least the one on Merivale) doesn't match their own online price. Even though they were unaware the price was bumped up on the site, they said that price is only for online orders and they'd only match prices in their own in-store flyers. I thought that was pretty damn messed up. I ended up just returning it for my full $50+ back. On the bright side, I got to keep the art book.

I'm gonna give Amazon.ca a shot. When using the $10 off thing when making a new account, which shouldn't be a problem since I don't have an account there, does that mean if I want to take advantage of the free shipping the total cost has to be $40 after using the coupon (50 - 10 = total cost ~$40) or would it still work if it is $40 before using the coupon (40 - 10 = total cost ~$30)? Hopefully that makes sense...

Yup! As long as you've got $40 total before the coupon you'll get free shipping as well as the money off.

I'm curious, how often are people using the code anyhow? I'm very tempted to use it again with a new account :)

I've used it a couple times already. First one was two copies of dark knight blu ray for $26.95 each but the day after it came out amazon dropped it to 24.95 so I was able to get the 4 dollar difference back. My second one was an order including arcade mania and then my last was P4 w/ $4.50 dora book for a cousin.

Did you specifically mention that it was the Canadian site that had it listed for that price? The Canadian site doesn't even do online orders -- they're all in-store prices. If you mention that you saw it for a different price on "the website", they usually assume you mean the American site, which they don't match. But with some persistence, they should always match the Canadian site. After all, what's the point of having a website that lists prices that aren't available in any way?

That's what the clerk thought too, but I told him it was the Canadian site. I didn't even realize the Canadian site doesn't do online orders. I don't really piss around there too much. Oops.

Ah, well. If I can get this Amazon thing to work, it should be cheaper. I tried it this morning, but... no dice. Both Persona 4 and the filler item were said to be "Ships from and sold by Amazon.ca," but I still got that error message for the coupon. The total was exactly $39.99, so maybe I have to bump it up a little. I'm giving it a go now, so we'll see what happens.

And thanks to MrGone for the info. Appreciate it.

Ahhhh, alright. Yeah, I tried it again earlier tonight and the total before coupon was $40.98. After all was said and done it was $34.71 for Persona 4 and The Night Before Christmas. Not too shabby... Sure is a helluva lot better than the $56.49 at EB.

I just received a confirmation email on my Amazon.ca pre-order for this, it was delayed for some reason. I remember seeing the pre-order artbook shown at the bottom of the page, so that's when I jumped on it. But then I checked the page a few weeks ago and the artbook was taken off! They better deliver or :twoguns:

Anyone else do a pre-order from Amazon and get the book?
