I am surprised this wasn't mentioned before.

But here goes..

On October 15th the news reported that this boy

got into this somehow

and was flying across the state of Colorado. Eventually the balloon came down safely but to everyone's surprise the boy was NOT inside.

Theories of what happened:

-Boy was not inside in the first place.
-Boy fell out of balloon during flight and died somewhere.

Hours after this started, they found the boy in a box in the attic, safe and sound. He was never in the balloon all this time.

CNN gets the family on camera hours later that same day (damn!) and the boy says "We did this for the show".

This comment lead to speculation that this was a hoax or a publicity stunt. Some people even thought that all of this was to give the father's UFO balloon invention some media coverage and money offers.

The Media has reported that the father is an amateur scientist that would take his kids out to chase storms. The Father has stated that he wanted to teach his kids science and not to be afraid of things.

The Police have stated that they will not file charges...but will investigate the incident in more detail in the coming days.

Personally I think it was way too soon for the family to be on TV after what had happened.

So was the kid used as a Tool by his Father for Media Coverage or a Fool to say "We did this for the show" on tv?

Father stands before the judge, gets a slap on the wrist :|

On December 23, 2009, a judge sentenced Richard Heene to a 90 days in jail, and his wife to 20 days. Additionally, Richard Heene was ordered to undergo four years of supervised probation

Personally I think he got off lightly. The judge should have thrown the book at them. fuck it if they have kids. Parents should have been served with the full punishment for this hoax. It would have set an example for the rest of the country/world that you do not get away with crap like this.

Watch the 28 second mark on the first video when the kid says "YES" he did hear them yelling for him. The mom's voice rises in panic and her fingers clutch nervously at her knee..obvious body language of fear. Clearly the kid was supposed to say "No." to the question, but forgot his lines and completely owned his parents in the next sentence.

The dumbass family also released a video of the UFO's launch yesterday..including a pathetic attempt by the dad to pretend his son was in the balloon and that he was furious at his wife for letting go of the tether..

This completely contradicts their original story that they were in the house when one of their other kids ran in and told them that the 6-year-old climbed in and it was accidentally released. They were clearly there for the launch and did a little fake acting in case they needed "evidence" to prove they were really worried.

P.S. Take note of the big smile on the wife's face at the end of the video. She doesn't look very scared for her son's life.
 
Any fool knows at this point they can get on all the cable "news" channels by pulling bullshit like this. I hope they get the book thrown at them. All those emergency personnel, aircraft to chase the balloon, Denver airport had to change flight patterns, bankrupt these assholes.

I don't care if the whole thing is a hoax or not, but I find it despicable that the nation was so eager to jump on the skepticism train so quickly. What happened to our nation of hope and change? Cynicism is the brand of the right wing, racist, hate mongering Republicans. We should follow the wise teaching of Obama and not stoop to the level of Republicans.

And if the whole thing was a hoax and the parents are arrested and sentenced to jail, that would mean their children will go into foster homes. Do you people really want this blood on your hands? Do the right thing and just take their word for it and believe. Stop this destructive cynical nonsense.

And as for the children going into foster homes, I honestly think that's the best thing that could happen to them at this point. Not only are the parents manipulative attention-whores, liars, frauds, and bat-shit crazy, but apparently the father is also abusive, and both parents are grossly negligent for taking their kids out with them to chase storms. fuck yes, I'd love for the children to be removed from that household.

When I heard about this crap, the first thing that came to mind was that this was a hoax. Then as soon as it was reported that this joke of a family is a former reality tv contestant and had been pitching a show about their family I would have bet everything I own that this was a hoax.

I think the family needs to cover all the costs associated with this sham and that they can do it in one of two ways.

Option 1 - Pay for all the costs associated with the emergency personal, airline flight delays and re-routing plus another 25% of so on top of that just for the fact that this garbage story was on every freaking channel here in Colorado for hours on end.

Option 2 - We send the balloon up again with the kid in it and see what happens.;)

An amateur storm scientist staged a hoax involving his son drifting off in a balloon because he fears the world will end in 2012, a researcher has claimed.
Richard Heene is suspected of attempting a publicity stunt in Fort Collins, Colorado, in a bid to get his own reality TV show.
Robert Thomas, who recorded Heene's ideas, told investigators the "obsessed" father wanted fame to earn money for a bunker that would save him from an apocalypse.
"Heene believes the world is going to end in 2012," Mr Thomas' lawyer Linda Lee said.
"Because of that, he wanted to make money quickly, become rich enough to build a bunker or something underground, where he can be safe from the sun exploding."
Police believe Heene, and his wife Mayumi, should be charged with falsely reporting that their six-year-old son Falcon had floated away in the home-built helium balloon.
The boy, who was later found at the family home, told reporters he had been hiding in a garage.
Heene was apparently planning a show that focussed on a range of bizarre experiments, like trying to attract UFOs with a weather balloon.
Mr Thomas worked with Mr Heene on the idea for the programme from March until May.
Police interviewed the researcher after he revealed the amateur scientist was planning a media stunt to promote the show, Ms Lee said.
Mr Thomas' notes included Mr Heene discussing a hoax that involved a hot air balloon, the lawyer added.

You people are cruel. Don't forget that this hoax allegation gave them far more attention than they would have received. So instead of a 6 figure book deal, they'll be getting at least a 7 figure now in addition to movie deals and numerous others $$$.

I think as punishment for their defrauding the public there should be a special inseminator made for the wife. This would be a machine that gives the wife a nice syrupy liquid concoction of a bunch of fertility drugs as well as egg implants into the uterus, 8 I'd say. The coup de grace would be the turkey baster at the bottom.
As for the husband you made sure to prematurely bald him by putting a very thin coat of acid on it follow by a large smattering of baking soda. Well or we could just leave Lye on his hair until it burns off and burns out the follicles too.
 
So any new updates? Has the movie of the week been announced yet? Seriously I would really like to see how a network can turn this into a 2 hour movie and who would they cast?

There is one guy that is defending the father in all this, calling him a genius even. Yeah, he's a real genius, his stupid stunt to get a TV show failed and will likely end up with him in prison.

I saw the sentencing on CNN a few weeks back. The judge decided to let the guy spend time with his family over the holidays, then after the holidays he starts his jail time. He got off lightly.
