The best time I was tricked by a game was X-men on genesis when on Mojo's stage you were asked to reset the computer before a bomb went off......it wasn't funny by the time i found out I had to use the reset button on the Genesis.

Share your stories about being fooled.....how many people were fooled by the Dead or Alive Volleyball nude code

300!!!
Umm.. I liked Sands of Time ending. That was pretty nice twist
thats kool ...u could of been a dick and said then ending,,,pretty cool...i still gotta beat that game

In Metal Gear Solid 2, when it keeps telling you like, "TURN OFF THE GAME! YOU'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR TOO LONG!" I was seriously about to. I had been playing for like 5 hours straight before that, so I thought maybe it did that when you played that long. Fortunately, I waited long enough for it to stop.

That damn mole from Animal Crossing. I was getting pissed off but realized he would never do erase my game. Bluffing bastard...

Skies of Arcadia SPOILER WARNING

The sequence in that game involving Gilder leaving the party for a while to "take care of some business." At that point, I was sure he was a Valuan spy setting up an ambush. My friends and I (yes, we used to sit around and watch one person play this game cause the story is THAT FREAKING GOOD) were all pissed cause in addition to thinking Gilder was a spy, we also all thought that he was just about the coolest cat in any video game ever made up to that point (DANCE FOR ME!) The cheers that erupted when we found out that he was actually sabotaging the big Valuan canon to aid the group's escape probably woke up half the campus early that finals-week morn...

So maybe the game didn't actually trick us, as we tricked ourselves, but this topic immediately made me think of that moment, one my favorites in my gaming career.

Also, special mention has to go out to the Eternal Darkness insanity effect that says "Memory Card Erased" or not detected or corrupted or kidnapped...something...

The Chrono Trigger developer's room ending "reset." After all the work I put into finishing the game with just Marle and Crono I was less than pleased until it turned out to be a joke.

This is embarassing, but when I played Bionic Commando when I was like 5 or 6, after you beat the game you have to 'escape' the exploding base. Now, if anyone remembers, but if you hit A, B, select, and start at the same time you exit the level. So I figured "this is easy, I'll escape the easy way." Well it let me leave the base alright, but I had to beat the last boss again! DAMMIT!

Now I'm ashamed, I PERSONALLY got laughed at.

Actually I screwed myself like that too, in the first suikoden you need to get all 108 characters to get the special ending, I was at the last part of the game near the boss, and I realized I only had 107. I used a warp to get out of there, got the last guy that i needed. Fought a hard battle......got the bad ending.

I got hit by that one too, still, GoodTimes :)

I miss that game :whistle2:(

There hasn't been a quality X-Men game since the genesis ones :whistle2:(

definately eternal darkness, i remeber one trick were right after you finish an early boss it goes to a screen that says like "you may have one the first battle but there are more to come in this great war"

Eternal Darkness got me on two occasions. The worst was when it said my controller was unpluged. I got up and went to look when I remembered what I was playing.Because I expepected it, the trick it plays when you go to save about deleting the file tricked me but not near as bad. I also distinctly remember jumping when my charcte exploded spontaneously when entering a room.

Metal Gear Solid 2: When you get to the part when the Game over screen appears. Haha my friend actually turned the game off. Oh wellz.

when I was playing Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicals and after saving it corrupted my entire 3rd party memorie card which contained my Super Mario Sunshine w/ all stars/coins collected, Mario Party 4 with 95% games found, Smash Bros Melee w/all but 1 character found, Zelda Wind Waker save (oh my god!), and Mario Golf records (AHHHHH). Also wasted 1 year game time in Final Fantasy: CC before i found out i could'nt save...

I guess it wasn't really a trick... what a treat would'nt you say?

LOL
thats the first thing i though of when i read the subject for this thread.

That xmen trick was the best
I remember it well and it sucked and if u press reset u obviously lose all your progress. but somehow they made it work I found out just by accident after several attempts i just pressed reset after failed attempts and it worked LOL.

The metal gear soldid controller trick was pretty cool too.

best was xmen though

This was a pretty crappy trick, that i SWEAR i didnt fall for. In the game "Snatcher", there is one part where the game is like "What's that noise? Turn up your speakers" It goes on like this, every once in a while telling you to turn up the TV and naturally there is some really loud sound at a suspenseful part. Good try anyway.

The best was Metal Gear Solid with Psycho Mantis telling me that I like to play Castlevania. I'm glad I didn't have a PSone contra save since that would've have ruined my disbelief because nobody liked those games.

Gotta love Hideo Kojima. He loves to break down that 4th wall. Btw, Snatcher: best story ever.

my was funny, i was playing my cousin in madden 2004, it was a close game in the 4th and i was down by 5, i thought i picked pass play to throw a long pass to score and have time run out, but i picked a play action pass (for all the non football fans its where the running back acts like he takes the ball but the QB keeps it), well i ran the play and the rb went for the ball and i was like " WHAT THE HELL, I DIDNT PICK A RUNNING PLAY" and threw the controller cause i knew i could not break the run to win, well it was a pass play and i saw a man WIDE open but i was sacked due to the controller thing, Pissed me off so bad cause my cousin would not shut up

So this is not so much the game fooling you as you being a moron?

In Metal Gear Solid, after the first boss they ask u to look at the back of the cd case for the codec. I was running back and forth for more than an hour for it, but then realize that u have to look at the game's cd case.

 hahha Exactly....... James you should have thrown the controller at your cousin, that would have stopped the play.
