Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Honestly the only words/question that came to mind was: (and I quote) " Do you think the Hamburgler will ever be brought to justice?"

After a brief awkward silence I took my 70 dollar gift card and got out of dodge.... oh well I still have 12 other BB in the valley, and no KMARTS:lol:
Which GR was this at?
Hey guys I have a great deal for you!

Thanks to bsesb2003 for his post in another thread.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00118T6FK/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20

Amazon has MLB 2K8 for PS3 for $15.99. TIV as of 9AM this morning is $36 at BBV/GR!

Obviously even with Prime you wont get this until Tuesday if you order now. But even if it drops to $30 then its still a good easy deal.

Or you can pay $3.99 with Prime and have it on Monday. Im not sure which Ill do. But Im in for 2 copies. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I went ahead with normal 2 day prime. Im hoping I ordered early enough today for it to get moving today and MAYBE come on monday. If not then I will hope it doesnt drop below $30 on Tuesday. And hopefully it doesnt drop at all ;)
thanks for posting.
Just had my BB tell me I go to " Kmart" and buy Stranglehold for 30 bucks and bring them back to BB for 35....... yep their investigation unit has not been the same since Matlock died.
just tell them to do the math which is $32.xx with tax. Tell them, 'yea i love making a buck or two.'

Dumped a few games today:

Strangehold Regular Edition (PS3) - $33
Stranglehold CE (360) - $35
Sega Superstars Tennis (PS3) - $30

All the local blockbusters are clearancing out some good candy/food. I picked up a few bags of pistachios and Ghiraradelli (sp?) chocolate bars for $1.50 each (the Espresso Escape chocolate bars are insanely addicting).

If you have a Hollywood Video or Gamecrazy nearby, I found Virtua Fighter 5 for $9.99 used. I wonder if that would be a good flip...

Still holding out for that B2G1. I don't want to spend any money atm, even if it's a 1:2 flip from Amazon or GameFly. That $80 is burning a hole in my pocket. :D

virtua fighter is a bust. i believe bbv sells it for 14.99 so it would only get about $8. im waiting for a b2g1 as well. looking at my credit card statement last month i spent way too much buying clearance games at target. i did end up with close to $1000 in bbv credit, but ended up selling stuff to bring my out of pocket expense down.

My Blockbuster's pricing is so inconsistent... I swear. I see the same exact games priced at totally different prices. Yesterday I saw 2 Crackdowns. One at 24.99 and the other at 14.99. Same thing with Spiderman: FOF. One was 14.99 and the other was 24.99... Any idea on why they do this?

Laziness.
Laziness.
That might sum it all up.

Just got back from BB. 3 blocks away from my house so no wasting gas :).

:360:Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - $32
:360:Crackdown - $8

First thing the manager says to me when I walked in with 2 games in hand is "Let me see what you got there. Looks like you have the wrong thing." I tell him I wanted to trade those two games in and he says that he's never done one trade in that store yet. No other CAGs around me :(.

Sadly though, I couldn't trade them because he didn't have the forms for me to fill out since it was my first time trading there.
Went in to grab Virtua Fighter 5 for PS3 at 14.99 (which I've seen at multiple locations) and today it was priced at 16.99 (both copies).
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure, but I think they did the same thing with NBA Street Homecourt for the PS3. So it looks like they bumped nearly all the $14.99 Wii and PS3 games to $16.99. It seems to be less common with the 360 games. Something is up...

Looks like it's time to trade in R6V2...

Just went and performed my little flip plan.

Traded in:

SST(wii): $26
Stranglehold: $33
GH3(360): $28.50

I also bought an Earth Defense Force and MTR for $6.99 each and will flip those to my GS when I get back home for about $22 after bonuses and EDGE.

Im almost to the point where going back and forth from GS to BBV (and vice versa) is costing me nothing out of pocket and still giving me nice return in credit.

Also I posted this in the GS also but figured it would hurt to ask here. Does GS have any problems if you are trading in games that have the original artwork but are in BBV cases? Or they dont care?

Depends on the store. Some charge a refurbished fee to disc only games. I haven't had any problems where I live.

Target has NCAA March Madness 08 (PS2) for $7.50. Blockbuster Pays $12 for it. Not Huge, but if you're picking up other stuff or need something to reach the $5 off $25 coupon, this'll help.
So is GHIII 360 $19.99?
Yes. Just make sure you try to get a non-bundle version which will have a barcode on the back instead of "not for resale".

The GS I went to had about 6 copies of the game and only ONE with the barcode. So I grabbed it.

The first game I traded into my BBV was a spare copy of GHIII I got off eBay which was labeled Not for Resale. The girl behind the counter asked the manager about it and she just printed out a label to put over the spot. I figure this would be common practice because a lot of GHIIIs people own would be from bundles. That was a good flip too ($13 shipped -> $35 credit).
Just called my local BB and Stranglehold only gets you $13.50 now.
Stranglehold regular edition for Xbox 360, yes, its been that way for weeks. But you'd know that if you read the thread...

It's the same thing they did with the last B1G1 14.99 and under. Sounds like it
s definitely coming.

Might be REALLY obvious for me to say this, but that's practically a guarantee that there will be a B1G1 or B2G1 either tomorrow or next week. It's been a practice before that they bump up the current gen games so to sell off all the last-gen titles.

Yeah, but they changed the prices a week ago or more so when it didn't happen last week it seemed like maybe a false alarm. Who knows, though - maybe this week. It needs to be this week to take advantage of the GS promo. Like I said before, if any Blockbuster higher-ups are monitoring this thread they need to make sure it happens no later than this Tuesday. I guarantee you will clear out a ton of worthless old rental stock ;).
4th of july.....but i want it now.....
Same here I've been holding off for so long now and its just been disappointment every week.

I'll be able to rack up a lot of credit if the B1G1 happens. My goal is to start with $40 in BB credit and flip back and forth enough to get it to $400 or so.

^^ I'm also planning on building a huge amount of credit with my $80. Buy games there, flip it to Blockbuster where I'll buy games there, transfer credit to GameStop, fliip back to BB, etc. etc. etc....

:D

i have over 200 dollars in gamestop credit waiting for the b2g1 sale.
also i think all of you heard about that microcenter coupon. well u can get the darkness for free which trades in for 8 dollars and get manhunt 2 for the psp for free which trades in for 10 dollars. its like getting 18 dollars if u have a microcenter close by. which i do :D

Went down to the valley today(damn was it hot!) on some errands and went on a CAG run. Picked up a couple of copies of SST PS3 and SST 360($14.39 before tax each) at GS. Found The Club PS3 at Target for $14.98 (before $5 coupon). Also, picked up copies of Spiderman FoF, VT3, PotC and Spiderman 3 at BB.

At BB Scanned:

Monster Madness 360 - $14.99 (IIRC it was at $9.99 previously)
Alien Syndrome Wii - $14.99 ($9.99 last week)
MtR Wii - $16.99 ($9.99 last week)

Bought at BB:

Spiderman FoF 360 - $12.99
Spiderman 3 360 - $9.99
Virtua Tennis 3 360 - $9.99
PotC 360 - $9.99

Not a bad day. Easily made enough credit for Disgaea 3 PS3 at GS with no money out of pocket. :D Ready for B1G1 at BB or B2G1 at GS.

TIV values:

The Club PS3 - $30
SST PS3 - $30
SST Wii - $26

San Fernando Valley?
San Fernando Valley?
Yeah. I'm in the South Bay. Always dislike the temp change when you pass the 101 on the 405. Down the "mountain" as we call it. Atleast, it was a dry heat.

Traded: Madden NFL 07 (360) - $6

Noticed used price of Ace Combat 6 (360) dropped to $45, Also saw that Avatar game for $15 (360)

Stranglehold has been red flag by BB be careful in trading them in

Just got back from BB and the manager that is my friend has told me that there has been a notice placed on for Stranglehold trade ins. Basically she said that they are selling them starting today for $15 (similar to what happened to Beowulf). There is definitely going to be a price drop on Tuesday and trading them in is going to be difficult till then. :wall:

She let me unload 2 of them today but its going to be YMMV on trading for Stranglehold. Just a word of warning.

Ah good. I had $30 and was debating on buying 12 months of life or doing some Stranglehold flipping. Since I have final assignments due for my classes tonight I chose to order 12 months of life and wait for the next flipping opportunity. Looks like I made the right choice.

Bah....I just located 2 more copies I was going to take care of on Monday. So does this mean basically dont even attempt it? Even if its at a new store you havent traded at before?

I dont want any notes or flags on my account over $30 profit so if its going to be THAT serious then Ill forget it and see if I can find some SST or just do some GH3 flips.

Its YMMV really. Some stores will let you but place a note on your account. I've had that happen with Beowulf and really was a pain. Other stores won't accept them at all. SST and GH3 are still a free for all so I suggest you just go with those.

how the hell that happened, TIV's won't drop till Tues of course

Also when trading in they asked if I wanted it on my account or gift card I took the gift card. Does this mean BB can look at what other titles you have traded in previously throughout all other Blockbusters?

Trade in values:
Karaoke Revolution presents American idol (360) - $35
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 (PS3) - $30
Spiderwick Chronicles (Wii) - $30
Guitar Hero III (360) - $28.50
Stranglehold Collector's Edition (360) - $35

Games purchased:
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (360) - $9.99
Spiderman: Friend or Foe (360) - $9.99
Meet the Robinsons (360) - $6.99
Spiderman 3 (360) - $9.99
Earth Defense Force 2017 - $$6.99
Beautiful Katamari (360) - $9.99
Tony Hawk's Project 8 (360) - $9.99
Golden Compass (360) - $6.99

Interesting thing with the Golden Compass.

I noticed the price tag was $6.99 but didn't know whether it was a pricing error or what. Either way, I checked it out. Turns out that they put a PS2 version of the game (and PS2 pricetag) on the xbox 360 case. I left, opened the game in my car, then went right back inside to either get a 360 version or a different game. They looked it up and said someone stole the 360 version. So, they gave me the rental copy of the game and price adjusted it for me.

I walked out pretty happy.

Does anyone see spiderwick (wii) falling on tuesday. If not im about to order a few. Got one of those paypal coupons in my email.

stranglehold CE for 360 is getting 35? damn looks like this one isn't listed on gamestops search site even though I clicked the show backordered items.

Gamestop tags limited editions the same as regular ones as far as used goes. You just have to get lucky if you want to find one.
