Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

It NEEDS to be done!!!!

where's kunai when you need him.

its impossible, i also would send someone 2 dollars paypal and im not even joking to have it on the same receipt

i could essentially be able to buy back the strangleholds i traded and trade them to gamecrazy with pm for $33.

I'm trying to save up for a Wii, seems like BB only sell bundled consoles. I got about 260 in store credit now, since I returned my MGS 4 also. Dumped at least 5 strangleholds within the last 2 wks already.

I purchased a 360, PS3 and Wii from BB/GR and all were CONSOLE only, no forced bundle. Although, YMMV as they seem to push bundles now....although, not sure if I saw a Wii bundle yet.
Just checked, Stranglehold TIV is $15.50 at the blockbusters in socal. Are you guys talking about gamecrazy tiv?
how did you get the new TIV? Its not time yet.

so...i tried to look back through this thread and i was unable to find a clear answer for my question...so im just going to ask it here:

im wanting to pick up the Limited Edition MGS4 at my GameStop...and i have tons of BBV credit. Isn't there some way to buy games at BBV and trade them in at GameStop using the "Get $10 more for your trade-ins" deal or something? cuz i'd really like to get some GameStop credit for cheap if possible..

again i apologize if this has already been explained but it would greatly help me out :whistle2:D

Look at the first post of this thread. io has a list of games to purchase at BB that will allow you to convert your credit to GS.

oh! thank you

although..are those prices (for BBV) after tax?
oh! thank you

No, before tax. Most flips from BBV to GS will result in a small loss unless your BBV doesn't charge tax when using store credit which is very YMMV.
oh! thank you

although..are those prices (for BBV) after tax?
all those are pre tax. Since the tax rates vary wildly, it's best to list pre tax prices.

It's pretty easy to determine how much prices would be anyway. You just multiply by 1 + the tax rate. So if you have a 6% tax rate, you'd multiply the base prices by 1.06.

Oh and for the record, I'm not trying to insinuate that any CAG on here can't do math; just restating the obvious for those who need it ;)

Dont see how that is possible for 2 reasons.

1) TIVs dont change until Tuesdays.
2) If they are going to sell them for $14.99 used why would they still pay $15.50 for them to be traded in?

The force is strong with this one......
Im in SO CAL as well, and yesterday they were selling them for 14.99, im tempted to see how much it will trade for but do not want to get the ban hammer.
off topic does trade in 2 get extra 10 at GS, still give you the extra 10% with edge card?
yes.

In some YMMV cases if you trade toward a pre order, they'll even stack that for you (although that would require an override).

just went to dump stranglehold @ gamerush and got $33 in store credit. Funny, that as soon as i traded it in i went to check out how much SH was selling for and it was @ $14.99 lol!

I'm glad you got to it first - I would have been less, um, charitable ;).
Tax, what's that? (I don't pay it where I live which makes flipping in general a much more profitable venture). Since you missed all the discussion about this, I'll reiterate that, so far, I've converted $337 of BBV credit into $364 at GS. (So I suppose with a 6% tax rate that would have been $357 -> $364 so still profitable by a hair). Also, I've traded several clearance and otherwise cheap games I've gotten other places in to GS instead of BBV, usually making more than I would have at BBV (and keeping my BBV trade-ins low recently which is always a good thing with respect to the Junior Detectives). When I'm all done I'll figure out how much I've gotten that way, too, so I can see the total GS credit I have from BBV flips and using GS as an alternative to what would have been BBV trades.

I haven't done any trading since the middle of last week as I was holding out some shred of hope for the B1G1 at BBV this week. I guess if that's not happening I'll make at least one more run in a few days. The problem is, I'll have to hit up some remote Blockbusters to find more good stuff. I'm not sure how much the time and effort (and gas) is worth it for that though...

are there any other good trade-ins to GS from BBV that you would recommend in addition to the ones you listed in the first post?
are there any other good trade-ins to GS from BBV that you would recommend in addition to the ones you listed in the first post?
Now, don't you think that if I knew of any more I'd put them in that list?

No, that's pretty much it. Though it is possible you may find others. The ones there seem to be the most common ones to find. In particular, nearly every Blockbuster seems to have 3-6 copies of Spiderman 3 (converted rentals) and usually a few Spiderman Friend or Foe (which is one of the better ones). But anything you can buy at BBV for $9.99 or less might be good - you'll just have to call GS to see if they will work out. If the base value is $4 or more then it is probably worth it. I wouldn't bother with 2006 or even most 2007 sports games though.

I did clean up the list a bit just now - put the drop at GS for Cars in there (will only get $8.30 now instead of $9.40). There used to be a few more good ones until they bumped up all the Wii games from $9.99 or $14.99 to $16.99 (like Alien Syndrome which was $9.99 -> $10.50 but is now $16.99 at BBV).

I figured this belongs here even though it has it's own thread:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187761

In that thread is a link to a $10 off coupon for GTA IV at Blockbuster. The link in the thread seems to take you right to a coupon printing screen so it is probably a "one-off" coupon. I canceled it when I went there so I probably can't print it again (unless I clear out cookies or something) but no biggie as I still don't want it for $10 off. But I figure there are a lot of people with credit to burn here who might be interested ;).

I'll add the coupon link to the OP.

Yeah, I tried a few different time from a few different computers and ended up with the same barcode each time. So, its either a one-time use code and we'll have to figure out the URL magic to generate new ones. Or, it really isn't one-time and they just say it is to discourage people. However, most BB coupons for rentals and stuff are one-time use, so this probably is too.

Yeah, doesn't look good. I added a note to the note in the OP warning about that. But I assume someone will try it soon and if 2 people are able to use it then it ought to be good. But probably it is a real one-time use thing like the MCR rentals.

I sent my sister to trade my personal copy of Stranglehold CE today while I'm away and she got the full trade in value.

The guy working said "weird, because i just bought one of these for 17 bucks." He gave her the TIV and then asked her if she'd like to rebuy a copy for half of what she got in trade. She didn't make it sound like he was being snide... but I had to lol. When she got home and told me, i asked her to pick up my copy when she goes back out to the store to pick up her cooking ingrediants (which was an hour ago, so she must have by now).

It will probably flag her account, but she said she doesn't care because she has like 8 BBV accounts (I do as well) from when we went off to college, moved, etc. All in a hard days work of sitting half-way around the globe and having family members do hard stuff:)

I just came back from bb located in ny and i traded in
viking 360 $32
condemned 2 ps3 $33
devil may cry 4 360 $28.50
devil may cry 4 ps3 $33
how did you get the new TIV? Its not time yet.
It was todays TIV for the PS3 version. I thought it was strange, i asked him to repeat it again and he said $15.50. I also asked for TIVs on Smash Bros Brawl and Zelda Twilight Princess for the wii. I believe those were $32 and $23. He thought the zelda TIV was high!

i dropped my final stranglehold...im still waiting for the b2g1 at gs or a b1g1 at bb...hopefully there will be one before the trade 2 next gen games get an extra $10 expires...

Woo-hoo great day! Decided to take a chance on Stranglehold (which wasn't much of a chance, since I would have been alright with keeping it if I had to). Was surprised to find the 360 special edition at the first of four planned Gamestops I planned to check; was even more surprised to get $5 and $7 base TIV respectively on Family Guy and Mortal Kombat: Armegeddon for the original Xbox, so I only had to pay $3 out of pocket.

Went straight to Gamerush and got $35 without incident (thought it would only be $33 - just the PS3 version apparently?). Picked up the Ace Combat 6 that was just repriced to $45 for only $10 out of pocket! :twoguns:

Doubted I would have any success going out, and ended up getting what I wanted while being able to keep some things I thought I'd have to trade.:bouncy:

The Stranglehold flip pretty much made me rich in BBV credit. I don't think I'll ever pay to rent another movie and my gaming budget is pretty much set for awhile. It's pretty crazy that I can walk in there and pick up Rock Band or a Wii and not have to pay a single cent for it.

I did find that the Sega Superstars Tennis PS3 trade in value is nearly as good as Stranglehold. So if you can find those and the price holds you can still make out pretty well given the 10% of Game Days coupon.

does gamestop track what you trade in? Would I raise suspicion if i traded in a certain game at gamestop then 2-3 days later traded in the same game? are they tight about that?

Stranglehold has done me well.....

Thanks to Stranglehold I got....

PS3 40 GB (only $220 out of pocket)
MGS4 (Only $30 out of pocket)

I think I traded...

10x Regular Strangleholds ($350 TIV at BBV)
8x Collector Strangleholds ($280 TIV)
5x Sega Superstar Tennis ($150 TIV)

These were the only games I ever traded at BBV....racked up a small fortune, Stranglehold you will be missed :)
does gamestop track what you trade in? Would I raise suspicion if i traded in a certain game at gamestop then 2-3 days later traded in the same game? are they tight about that?
Gamestop does not care, they will give you $10 TIV and sell it to the next smuck for $55 :)

God, I swear the manager at my store gets cooler and cooler every time.

Now he's giving me free candy even though he knows I have over $150 in credit. The "head store manager" told him if he could get 8 reservations in the next week, he would get a PS3 for free. There was no way I couldn't pre-order something from him. I pre-ordered Soul Calibur 4 (PS3). I really hope he gets the PS3. He's one of the best managers I've ever dealt with at a Blockbuster.

He also let me know that starting sometime in July/August, The $21.95 gamepass will turn into a $21.95 game/moviepass. Basically, if you dont feel like playing a game, return the game you have on the pass and check out a movie instead. Sounds good to me as my backlog is incredible right now.
Does BBV ever stock Nintendo Wii Hardware? If not, I'm going to flip my credit back to GS. TIA
ditto,

mine has: red psp, core psp, ds's, wii's, 360 used, 360 new (non bundle), ps3 40, ps3 80, ps3 bundle.

lol, that's a good way to get away with suspicious trading -- just tell them that you're trying to build credit to reserve a game.

I really want to build up to buy a new PSP. My old one got semi-bricked due to firmware malfunctions. Anyone looking to buy? :D

If anyone is interested. Apparently some of the Targets (YMMV of course) have dropped AI:KR on 360 to $24.98. Use the $5 off and the $10 off (again YMMV but the $10 one DOES still work), and get it for $10.

TIV at BBV is $35 for game only and THEN go to GS and trade in the mic for $4.

Not bad ;) 4:1 ratio :D

Also I did a flipping no-no today. Bought two GH3's to trade in but dont have time to do it tonight like I thought I would. I HOPE it doesnt drop much if at all tomorrow. :(

I also have DMC4 that I was going to trade in today and I hope that doesnt drop from $33 tomorrow. Bah!

AI:KR?

EDIT: Looked it up in the other thread. American Idol: Karaoke Revolution for anyone who didn't know.

For those of you interested in getting the GTA4 for $10 off. You shouldn't need the coupon. All stores were sent a memo with a barcode to scan for anyone buying GTA4 (any system, regular edition only). The barcode will take off $10 w/o the need for the coupon that was sent out.

OK I definately didn't notice this until today, after checking my balance was right on my receipt, under the receipt stated the following:

State/local laws may restrict the times during which trade transactions can be conducted. See store for details.

Does anyone know what time they usually start to stop taking trade ins? The sun doesn't set until 7, and gets dark around 8 would that be the time?

This sucks... So I have to hope for not only 1, not 2, but 3 games not to drop their TIV tomorrow. I hope I get lucky.

If anyone feels like being nice and would like to call and ask tomorrow (if they are calling anyways) Im looking for the TIV of:

MLB2K8 PS3
Guitar Hero III 360
Devil May Cry 4 PS3

Thanks!
