Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
I live in nyc and could not find one ff ross in the clearance section in fact the store had none.
Are you talking about that huge one in Times Square? If so, it'll save me a 5 minute trip tomorrow (I work 2 blocks away). Luckily I was able to score 6 copies of this, and 2 SMB:BB while I was home in Albany, NY this weekend. Unfortunately, I traded one of them in at a GS before reading this thread. I was super pissed when I came home and checked it, but at least I still had the rest to trade at BB! I'll be trading them in tomorrow :D
Guys, tru has world poker championship x360 for $4. Bb tiv is $12. I didn't find ffross but found 4 copies of smb.
Is this "World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions 2007 Edition" or some completely different Poker game? Strangely enough, I found one of those at Fred Meyer for $1.58 ($1.97 clearance + 20% off). I was thinking of GS trade-in for that, but BB would be a nice backup if this is the same game you found.
:360: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe jumped to $19.99. Guess the demand was too great. :wall:
D'oh! Too bad as that ruins what would be a great game for B1G1 as it is in plentiful supply. Gotta love those Sunday price jumps at Blockbuster . They seem to be in tune with the sales of their used games but not the trade-ins. Very odd...

Today I opened a trade account at 2 more BBs and neither of them had me sign a trade agreement. At the 2nd BB/GR, the girl told me that they could put the credit on my account but couldn't put it on a value card.
:360: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe jumped to $19.99. Guess the demand was too great. :wall:
What time did this happen? I was at my local BBV yesterday afternoon...the employee was applying the price changes and Spiderman:FoF rang up $12.99 for me...

oh..and i can confirm that wii-MTR is 16.99...

Around 6pm Eastern. The clerk was applying new stickers to a lot of their games. 3 were on the shelf with $19.99 stickers so I asked another clerk to check the price on the computer for me. I was planning to buy 2. Last week I grabbed 6 but they limited me to 2. This BB is a bit out of my usual range, I only visit on Sundays...

I'm sure someone can confirm on Monday for us. ;)

i must have been lucky this afternoon...i bought myself two copies and both rang up 12.99..this was around 4pm PT...i hope that this isn't a nationwide price increase...

When I traded at BBV today they gave me a quote slip which is tempting me very much to try to take a FF:RoSS to Gamecrazy. But, man, that is really pushing it ;). One potential hitch is that it says "Wii-Fantastic 4:" so they may insist it is another game since there's no way that one could get that much. Of course they could call and check, too, and the guys at GC are really cool so I'm sure they will believe me with the slip and all. But still, I don't want to ruin a good thing. It's one thing to match MLB 07, but this...

I did buy a couple of used DS games there the other day and I was eyeing some more, so maybe if I bring some more up to buy it will take the edge off of asking for the PM...

So, any other TRU games I should look for at lunch today that make a decent flip to GameRush? I really hope they have FF:RotSS.....but my luck would say no. I don't recall seeing any Wii games on clearance at 1 TRU (except Counter Force and some other kids game).

I'm about to go to my TRU soon, hoping for FF, but if not I will just buy some cheap games for myself, I don't know of any others for flipping.

Just got back from my 10 mile biking run. Passed by a GS and a BB on the way there. Bought F4 for $15 and traded it for $30. Manager kind of looked at me funny when I traded in my game. He even wanted me to show ID even though I've done trades there with no hassle before.

I guess it's because my BB membership is from a town that has its own BB and is 5 miles away ;). Guess I have to be careful there. Manager seems to be a Jr. Detective.

I traded a stack of games yesterday (bought from BBV, traded to GS to "move" credit) and one of them was Chromehounds, which dropped. It's barely worth mentioning, but figured I ought to anyway. It dropped from $3 to $2.50, so after bonus and Edge it comes to $7.75.

Best of luck with it, if you go for the gold. Just don't get yourself on a trading blacklist... chances are they would just turn you down outright, though. :(

No, but really. It's a trade that GC would have to be nuts to match since the price the game gets from their store should be less... and there's bound to be a provision in their agreement that they won't pay more than what the game would get from a proper sale.

Does BB/GR make you buy a bundle for the DS Lite? My wife wants one now and I think I may get her one. Just debating what one to get her.....I need to build up some more credit also. This will cut my credit is almost half....I think I have $350ish. So, a DS and game will be like $150.

No Fantastic 4 at one of my TRU either :(

I bought a DS Lite from BBGR a couple months ago and I didn't have to buy a bundle and wasn't asked.

Yeah my trip was a waste. TRU had nothing good (just a bunch of Tales of Dragoon???? I swear it had Dragoon in it...but that' snot possible.. [Wii] and Golden Compass [Wii]). So then I went next door just to try and get something at CC so my trip didn't feel like a waste, nothing there. Then Sears was disappointing too, though I wish I would have picked up Virtua Tennis 3 (PS3) for $4.97

I'm pretty sure this stopped quite a while ago, but they don't still give a free rental card with purchase of a DS, do they?

If this was posted before, my apologies, but this thread is really becoming a big one to slog through. Anyway, and I must caveat this with YMMV, I was in Walmart todat and in the clearance bin of my particular Walmart was Spiderwick Chronicles 360 for $10 new. Traded it to BB for $25, nice 250% gain. It may not rival FF:RoSS @ 600%, but not bad. I wouldn't make a special trip to your local Walmart, but maybe a phone call to see if your stroe has it @ $10. The $25 tiv is definite as 6/30......
I'm pretty sure this stopped quite a while ago, but they don't still give a free rental card with purchase of a DS, do they?
No, I didn't get a free rental card.

TIV as of 6/30
F4:ROSS 30.00 (traded in 5 copies over 3 BB)
Ballers PS3 23.00
Prey Xbox 360 6.00
NBA 2k8 16.00
Viva Pinata 8.00 x2
SMB 9.00 x3
The Biggs 12.00
Blue Dragon 12.00
Mass Effect 25.00
Karoke Revol 35.00 x2
It's a trade that GC would have to be nuts to match...
Shouldn't be a problem, but I guess it could depend on the worker/manager.

GC's policy is that they will give the highest TIV guaranteed. Back in the HoV days, I asked them how much they would give...they said $6. BB/GR was giving $32 at the time, I believe. I mentioned the BB/GR TIV and their jaws dropped. But they treated their policy as law, called to verify, and matched it no problem.

The only real thing I think you have to worry about is whether or not they'll accept any more trade-ins for that specific title/platform.

You should've trade SMB to GS / Get $ 11.60 (after extra $10 and Edge) or more if you're able to use the $15 coupon.

Thanks, I realize I should call but I cannot do that while at work....saves myself being put on hold also as people are generally not too nice in looking up values.
:360: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe jumped to $19.99. Guess the demand was too great. :wall:
I just bought this an hour ago, it was marked and rang up $12.99 still.
I just bought this an hour ago, it was marked and rang up $12.99 still.
Yeah I went to Blockbuster at around 1pm eastern and all the copies of Friend or Foe were still 12.99.

I also found a Blockbuster yesterday with some great titles no one seems to be going for. Picked up Psychonauts on the PS2 and Xbox, and a practically new copy of Frequency on the PS2. I say practically new because while there are a lot of good titles, this particular BBV decided to take a cue from GS and gut their games. Shame, this one even had the security stickers on the outside.

Well, it worked. I traded in all my copies of FF to one store. So, aside from that:

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III (GC) - $6.00
Brute Force (XBX) - $1.00
Metroid Prime (GC) - $1.25
Resident Evil Zero (GC) - $2.50
Resident Evil 4 (GC) - $2.50
Sonic Mega Collection (GC) - $6.00

Sure, I lost a bit of money in the above trades if I had sold them online, but considering I traded in half a dozen of FF, I thought it was only right. So, with all that, I turned $30 into over $200. Happy days!

To answer my own question

Splinter Cell - Double Agent trades for $12 (360). Currently $4/$5 at TRU. Nice flip. I may get another....I actually never played the game.

Just ditched 7 more F4's and 3 super monkey balls (kept 2 for myself) to end an epic trading day. I also stopped by one of the stores I traded to last night and they had f4 marked at 44.99 so there is a chance it might not drop (as i traded that copy late last night, possibly past their weekly drop date in prices).

I don't like to give away my location...shhhh another cag pmed me to take this down ;)

i got good news...i can confirm that there will be a B1G1 next week....i was trading a copy of FF:RotSS and the employee there was actually a CAGER too...he said that they just got the notice about it today...since the extra $10 for 2 next gen games and the extra $15 coupon are going to end near the end of the month and the start of next month repectively...this is going to be a really good time for flipping...just wanna give a heads up to the employee at BBV today...

I know this is off topic but due to the responses from when there were BB gcs on MCR I thought all those COKE-heads (as in coca cola lol) should know...if you have over 500 points and a sprite cap you can get a $25 virtual giftcard...AND if you log out (after getting code 1) sign back in, enter a sprite code and have over 500 points...you can wash rinse repeat this till you are all out ^_^.

To get back on topic, i saw 2 copies of GT5 prologue today, any confirmation on the new low price? They were priced at BB terribly high, and it was busy so I just flipped and peaced out.
:ps3: Harry Potter OOTP - $16

It's $9.99 at GS now.
I'll trade that in tomorrow I guess. I'll see if the TIV changed.

Edit - Just went out and bought one. My GS has like 5 of them so if the TIV holds after tomorrow's changes I'll buy a couple more.

Here's to hoping there's something really good at the B1G1. I was considering whether to hold off and just keep building credit at BB, but considering the fact that the video game selection is much better at GS than BB (although BB is doing better), it may be worth the effort. ;)

Here's to hoping those PSN cards come out soon. I heard they're going to start selling PS2 games as digital downloads during E3.

Spiderwick Chronicles (Wii) - $30
Rock Band (Game only - PS2) - $27

I've found people at work who will go TRU hunting for FF:ROSS for me. I offered to pay them $12 for each copy they find ($12 -> $30 is still a good flip). Lazyness FTW

Why go hunting when you can just call one store and they'll tell you the inventory of all the stores in the district? I'd say turning $4 into $30 is a hell of a lot better than turning $12 into $30, especially since you're essentially paying $8 to each copy for gas.

I know FF is the hot flip right now, but for those who cant find them, there are still good returns from the TRU clearance. PM the TRU price and the BBV TIV and i'll update this post. These were verified by other CAGs.

$5/$4 (20% of $5)
:wii: Fantastic 4 TIV: $30 (6/30)
:ps3: GRAW 2 TIV: $16 (6/28)
:360: Splinter Cell DA TIV: $12 (6/30)

$10 off $50 coupon. Ends July 1st

Flipped another 11 FF4s today and all was well until i go to buy ANOTHER MGS4 bundle and the guy notices im going to put it all on one gift card. So the junior detective comes out and he picks up the phone and yes...calls 5-6 stores in the area. Of course i had traded there to. So the conversation went...

Junior Detective: hi can you look up an account for me....
Store 1-6: yes he has traded here before
JD: does he buy anything...
Store 1-6: yes
JD: should i allow him to buy our last MGS4 bundle?
Store 1-6: why not.

Junior detective was angry that he had to sell his very last MGS4 bundle to me. I tried not to laugh.

So im done with FF4 even if the TIV holds. Ended up $88 >> $660
Im not going to buy anymore FF4s but there are 11 more in my area. Willing to sell them off.

willing to buy them. check you PM

If anyone is really having some trouble finding F4s to flip, check out the used copies at your GS. ~$15>$30 is still good. Not as great as TRU, but good. I, for one, don't feel like wasting $10 on gas and 30 minutes of my life to go pick up a copy or two. XD

One quick question. Are the prices the games at BB have on them the actual prices? Do prices come straight from corporate? I noticed there are tons of different prices for games around here. For example; I was looking at the prices of Spiderman: Friend or Foe and they vary greatly. They start at $14.99 and go all the way to $24.99

well in my area there are 5 bbv.... and 3 of them you are able to trade games in... but only 1 took the F4 for $30 so i traded 3 there ... they didnt let me trade all 4 ... so I have 1 left unopened if anyone wants it I can trade it for blue dragon (same price)

BB is hilarious. I bought 4 FFs in the morning to trade at 2 difference stores. everything went smoothly no without any problem. Then in the evening I just remember there are 2 other blockbuster near me as well decided to go to TRU and buy some more to flip. First one i went to they said i stole the game and asked me for proof of purchase after i show them receipt the rejected it saying they don't carry the game or trade the game so no trade i just walked off. 2nd store the employee took it did everyting for me without asking any question beside asking me to sign the Trading Autharization thingy. But when she was done loading the credit on my value card the manager (really hippy looking, so i think she visit CAG) came out and was like ooh you weren't suppose to trade those games o.o? But she was like oh well the transaction already done just don't do it again. So this seen to be kinda YMMV. Well anyway i picked up some extra copies if anyone in utah would like it i'm willing to sell it for price i bought it at TRU (4$ + taxes each).

;) Always try to help a CAG when I can.

So we've got the B1G1 ($14.99 and under) at BBV and the extra $10 trade at GS. Now all we need is the B2G1 at GS for the flipping trifecta.
