Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Anyone know if you can use the mic from AI for Singstar?
I may buy at $25 and trade in the game for $35 and keep the mic for Singstar.

It is hard when you cannot make personal calls at work. I thought people were a bit more friendly here....this thread has been muddled up since the early GR days.
How'd you arrive at this conclusion? They've always been updated at the time of opening in my experience. In fact, people hitting up stores late at night on Monday nights on the west coast have reported that the changes take effect at like 9pm PST. In any event, a quote received at open today should be accurate.
I have arrived to this conclusion by the numerous cags saying they traded games in early on Tuesday and gotten the original TIV for it. They then called or found out the TIV after 12 and it ended up dropping. It's completely YMMV though. I know the 2 BBVs I go to update at 12 PM.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're at work shouldn't you be... working? I wouldn't mind calling for people every once in a while, but it's just that every page there are 3 or 4 people asking for TIVs or for others to call.

I am working....I generally check these forums when my computer is regenerating large assmeblies making my "work" busy. Lately, I have been working with many large assemblies.....

Anyways, I will not ask anymore....I just figure someone was calling. Not a big deal regardless.

If anyone still cares, I called 4 BBV about FF:ROTSS. One said they have to see the game before giving a TIV, the other 3 said $30 for TIV.

Hope this helps

Bit and bought FF at GS for $18. I've looked all around, driven to so many stores looking for Target clearances, etc and came with nothing, so I had to get something! 18 --> 30 is better than nothing.

You know you could have gotten it for $15.40 (or around there depending on your state's tax). 10% EDGE discount + 10% off coupon.

I don't have EDGE and I dunno where 10% is/what it is.

If you're going to make a habt of flipping, EDGE is a wise investment. And the additional 10% coupon is floating around in the deals forum (I believe it made it's way to page 2 or possibly even page 3). Title is something to the effect of "10% EB/GS coupon, now expires 7/6" or something like that.

yeah but $15 for Edge not worth it IMO. Plus I will only be flipping till end of summer, since I go back to school

You can get it for $2, just need to wait.
However, aren't you going to buy games anyway?
10% off each time adds up quickly.

I guess it does depend on how long you'd be able to do it, but even with just the summer it can be worth it. Even if I hadn't flipped some games, I'd still have come out well on top using my EDGE card.

Calculating, I've saved over $50, and I've only had the thing for a few months.

How for $2? I saw that thread but it looks like it is $10
How for $2? I saw that thread but it looks like it is $10
Yeah, the cards inside Game Informer used to have a $2 check-box for just the Edge card. It was intended to be in addition to a subscription, but they were honoring it for a while. I guess they caught on and now all the new subscription cards have a $10 option for just the Edge card.
How for $2? I saw that thread but it looks like it is $10
Not that I care too much what you do but to say an EDGE card isnt worth it is pretty stupid. If you buy or trade in $150 in games from GS it has paid for itself. Which means if you do even a SMALL amount of flipping it will EASILY pay for itself and then some. Ive had mine for a total of two weeks and I have already been paid back 10 fold what I paid for it.

In that thread there are new posts saying theres new cards in the recent GI mags that say $2 on them again. Although I think it takes like a month to actually get the card doing it that way.

This sucks so much. I'm really tempted to go to my BB and clean up all the fodder they have there. There are a lot of flippable games, but I also want to wait for the B1G1. Temptation sucks...

The way i think about it...is anyone else going into to BBV to buy copies of Spiderman 3 and Meet the Robinsons for 360? No way in hell...so just wait it out like the rest of us and maximize your flipping

Have you guys not been going to BBV and getting these games already to flip to GS? How do you still have games left to do this with?

Im going to have to go with even trade games or maybe go to some further away BBVs hoping they have the motherload of games.

It sucks cause I have probably bought close to $200 in BBV games in the past week and a half (all with credit of course) and to think I could still have an extra $100 in BBV not spent if there was a B1G1 back then lol.

Hey what blockbusters accept tradeins in the Bay Area? Cause there are plenty around here, but I see no signs of like Game Rush or what not. Shed some light on this for me, Thanks.

MLB 2k8 fell before i could flip the 5 i still havent received in the mail. Oh well. Must compensate with more FF4s. I almost feel bad for BBV. I mean how do you have a business that includes accepting trades and not have a clue about market value. I mean for jr detectives to have to man the battlefield against people gaming the system is laughable. You never hear about GS having this problem.

I dunno - all of them, probably? I haven't stepped foot in a Gamerush in over a year.

So it may turn out OK for me to be in Tucson for this promo. Chances are the BB's there are untapped whereas I have bought many of the good things from my local ones (though there are plenty more I haven't been to). The good thing is that since this is a BB->GS transfer I don't even need to mess with opening new trade accounts at BB. My only issue will be how much of my credit do I bring with me on my trip?

Of course it does suck that I will have to pay sales tax on my BB purchases there...

There are actually no CAGs around here so I think I'm safe. Tons of copies of Spiderman 3 and Spiderman: FOF though :). I just hope the TIVs don't fall to the point where Spiderman 3 can't be used...
Have you guys not been going to BBV and getting these games already to flip to GS? How do you still have games left to do this with?
I've only bought 4 games there to flip $40 of BB credit to $40 of GS credit. Tons of games left at my local BB. The one that is at the end of my morning biking should have some games. Haven't really checked it, but it seems like they have a lot of games, but they don't have cases. Bummer =/.

If you read the OP you wouldn't have to post this... BBV accept trade-ins too. That's why this thread is called Blockbuster/Gamerush...

As soon as the rumors of a b1g1 surfaced I stopped flipping from bb to gs.

Luckily the perfect storm seems to be forming, the first day of the b1g1 will be EPIC i have full intent on calling in sick to my internship and emailing my teachers and telling them the same story. I have upwards of 450 at BB that I want to switch over...hopefully looking like this

Step One Get games from bb
Step Two Get idiot at register to understand what B1g1 means
Step Three Head to Gamestop
Step Four ???????????????
Step Five PROFIT

Anyone else hear about the 50% off for the 4th that was posted a few pages back? (directed at people who went into stores today, I'm not asking anyone to call)

wow, we get more and more each day.

1. yes, bb gives $30 for f4
2. no, you will not be charged
3. as many as you feel like, but it depends on the cashier.
I wish Blockbuster sold booze.
Better than booze. My BB sells very cool electronic stuff. Purchased a sweet 42 inch t.v. by sony at bb. They also sell some weird electronic stuff like glasses (you where) that you can watch t.v. in them. BB has tons of more stuff I want than GS.

If this was the case at all BBs, almost every member of this this thread would be living large in high definition.:drool::drool:Even us college student types

Let's not go overboard here. I'm not sure in what alternative universe you live in but around here (and I'm sure it is the same at the vast majority of stores) all they have are a handful of games, a couple of systems, those framed posters, the Indy stuff, some overpriced DVDs and Blu-Rays, and a bunch of WALL-E toys. It hardly adds up to being a better selection than GS ;).

Sounds like maybe you have one of the test market stores (Dallas area?). Hopefully that stuff will expand to other areas but I'm not going to wait around for it.

By the way, I did buy 2 WALL-E toys with my FF money. Man, it felt wrong buying those toys for $9.99 and $5.99 but then I just had to keep reminding myself how cheap the credit was... My kids proceeded to break one of them within minutes after getting back in the car. Once again, I needed to take a deep breath and remind myself how cheap the credit was ;).

where was this B1G1 first confirmed, in which state? Has anyone on the west coast, CA heard of any B1G1 coming up soon?

io
I LOVE my alternative universe. Not going overboard at all. LOL You are very much correct that I do live in the dallas test market. But man, they have all types of stuff. Zunes, 5.1 stero systems, 7 or 8 types of sony mp3 players, digital cameras, they even have a eletronic book tablet that lets you view online books( 200$, I am oddly thinking about getting) I know not many people, if any have these options, but I would think i you could amass a ton of credit ( like 1500 I did 2 months ago) it might be worth a trip to my alternative universe in dallas if you live close by.

I just gotta jump on good ole I-35 to get to Dallas, jmiller, and I'll be visiting your "alternate universe". ;)

But actually, I'll be going to St. Louis this weekend (3rd-6th), but I'll definitely be checking out the closest Play'N'Trade to see if there are any good things to trade.

A little off topic, but does any one know of a quick way to make cash without selling my body out for pleasure? I won't be getting a job this summer. :(

I live in the dallas area and have been to that store. The one on Preston right? They have a lot of cool things there. Im saving up to get one of those televisions as well. They are even thinking about selling the 50 inch they had on display. i wonder what they will think when people by a tv with all credit:D

TIV @ GS:

360 Spiderman:FoF - $5 credit
- $10.50 with extra $10 promo
- $12.50 with extra $15 coupon

thats a huge difference from the TIV yesterday...from $8 to $5...

I've called a couple of stores in CA aleardy and none of them have any idea of the B1G1 deal or the 4th of July sale.:whistle2:x

Also had a question ? Not making this up either
I went to another bb not in dallas to flip some F4 and saw a sbarros pizza shop INSIDE a BB. Are these popping up in other places or just around dallas?

That is huge... Hmmm.. See, this is why I don't regret getting a lot of this done even before the B1G1 hits - with the bumps to $16.99 at BB combined with drops at GS it won't be quite as profitable as people think (though still better than now in general).

Sounds like more test market stuff. Whatever happened to the rumor of Fedex (or UPS?) shipping centers within the stores?

The next big electronic purchase I want to make is an HD camcorder - let me know if they carry those. Though I find it very unlikely I'll be able to get to Dallas any time soon. Arizona is about as close as I'll get.
