Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki
How did you manage to get Edge + coupon on a new game??
They converted the GameDay sale items to used, so I'm guessing they we're still honoring the original sale price, even though at mine the prices had gone up as the sale price was lower than the used price on a number of items.
Regardless of what the tag says it should scan $30.
Wow.... thanks for that bit of information. The point is a LOT of GS's will honor the stickered price no matter what it scans at.
Ah, that's a bit too far from me. Is that the one near Kraemer? I think I've been there once, but it's just outside of where I'd like to drive just to flip.
It's a little past. I'm sure some lurkers will ruin my local stores now, but there's a random BB on Yorba Linda just past Imperial, and there's another off of Kraemer at Rose in Placentia.

It's ridiculous how many Blockbuster stores there are in the area.

Hehe.

There was a Sega Superstars Tennis PS3 marked for 17.99. The cashier manually adjusted the 29.99 price it rang for to 17.99 (I said "Doesn't the sticker say 17.99?). Then scanned the 25% off coupon and it subtracted 25% (or 35%, not sure, threw away the receipt... I used Edge of course) of 29.99 :D Result = YMMV power-up! Cost me less than $9 in credit. Double bonus: I'll actually play it before trading it in. It's got Jet Set Radio Beat in it  Too cool.

I was successful (read: lucky) in getting an employee to manually look up Time Crisis 4 when trading in at Blockbuster. The regular store manager would have done it without me having to prod in the right direction ("Is there a way you can look it up manually?"), so I'm hoping that SM is working when I try to unload the other one. It's a shame that one doesn't automatically ring up at BB when trading in, because one GS I went to had about 6 copies of TC4. It's too much trouble to go out of your way to make a $20->$30 flip work.

Happy flippin'

Manually changing prices gets your GS store sent a nasty email from GS corp. Trust me i know. Had a nice GS manager do it for me a good while ago and said corp sent an email a week later threatening his job. But yeah...if you can work it, the SST is really the best flip out there.

I said earlier I wasn't finding much in the B1G1 sale besides loads of 360 games for GS xfers. I mean, I was hoping for some old GC stuff or PSP games for myself. However, I did see this game yesterday:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/ephemeralfantasia

I had never even heard of that before, and I was pretty up on PS2 RPGs at one time. It sounds like total crap - but I'll have to check out the resale value ;). (Just looked - anywhere from $1 to $20 used on ebay - what a wacky price discrepancy!)
As for the PS3 coupon - unless we find more I fail to see the excitement here. The 360 one was better when Viking and Condemned were cheap. There are only 3 (not YMMV) games that are better than trusty ol' Harry Potter (which was available in 3 of the 4 stores I was at yesterday). And I just did an inverntory search on those - there is ONE History Channel BftP in the entire metro area, NO Pro Evo Soccers, and only a couple Rock Bands... Fatal Interia was easier to get than these!
I'm glad I'm not the only one having trouble with these games. I had to resort to getting Turning Point because there's a shortage of games around here. I'm trading in TP and HC soon. Local BB doesn't even have used Rock Bands. There's only one GS with a used rock band...

The only way I see me getting lucky is if I find a copy of viking/condemned that wasn't marked up to $34.99. I'm pretty sure that those two games were $26.99 like the 360 version was.

The manager better start taking care of his store then. It's no secret to them that the prices change. Corporate tells them. It's their fault they didn't update the prices yet. The GS I go to almost everyday is always on the ball. I haven't found one mislabeled/mispriced game there yet.

Ok just got back. Good day I'd say.

Started with $70 GS and $39 BB
Now have $160 GS and $7 BB (but I have RSV2 and EOJ to trade in) so more like $67+ edit: minus $5.xx for subway and $8ish for gas.

I was looking for of course pro evo soccer, sst, condemned/viking miss priced and of course rock band.

I found 1 condemned 2 for $27 and a viking for $27, also one SST. And as a throw in Motorstorm (only a $3 profit but my GS is small and didn't have any other good flips.

With EOJ I got a pleasant surprise at GS. The store is fairly new, but huge good stock of 360/wii games. Only one segment of the wall and a half row of ps3 used games. The only 10+ flip I could find was RSV2, and had to get another to go with the coupon. I looked at my list and decided to go for Eye of Judgment. By the way the guys working there were very cool, way better than any other GS employee I've met. Maybe because their store is new, who knows. So as I was trading in my stack of 12 games I raided from BB when I traded in condemned, SST, and Viking. Some guy came in with his 360 that just died, so we all got into a conversation about the price drop. I guess the consensus was that it was coming sunday at their store, and that it'll go abck up to 350 when the new sku drops. Any way, the guy saold me rsv2 and eoj with mt edge credit and the other guy said, "doesn't he get all the crap with it." And I said " I dont know" So the other guy went in the back and grabbed a stack of cards and the mat and stand, but they could't find the camera. I said it was ok, but they ended up just gripping open one of the used accessories packs that had an pseye in it and gave me that.

So I ended up getting an PSeye, EOJ and the cards and crap for $20.xx. Not bad, the camera works too, pretty good. Does it also work as a mic too?

All in all a good day flipping, plus I got a pseye for free sort of. (if Bb will take just the game, but they are pretty stupid at my BB so I hope so.)

Also, my friends little brother came in to the store by himself (He's 7). He said hi to the guys working there and I said does he come in often. And he said "everyday!!!!" The kid just plays on the game consoles in there, I thought it was pretty funny.

Damn...with the kind of customers that frequent the GS' I hit, I don't let my 7 year old leave my side, let alone, allow him to hang out in the store by himself.

Great story. I'm loving the manager of the store closest to my house.

I walked in just going to rent a DS game. I was almost certain they were completely out of trade fodder. But!!! They weren't. I saw a couple of games and picked them out so I could go trade them.

I went to the counter and I got the manager to ring me up. I noticed that the computer didn't do the B1G1 discount right off the bat and I asked him if the sale ended. He said yes. I was kind of surprised because he's usually knowledgeable about this stuff. He told me he was in a meeting this morning and that in the meeting he was that the sale had officially ended.

I told him that I wasn't going to take all 6 games then if the sale ended. I chose two 14.99 games and I said I wasn't going to take them. He overrided the computer and gave me the games for free. He then hit total and I was given 3 games for free. He was surprised and said "I guess it still is going on."

He rang up the 2 games he took off and the computer took off one of the games again when he hit total. I alerted him to the error. I didn't want to walk out of there with two free 14.99 games instead of one because he just overrided the prices for me.

yeah it was really weird when he came in, he just yelled "hey guys!" and they answered sort of annoyingly. He was by himself, and its not like my friend lives across the street. He lives about 1/2 mile from that GS. So that kid walks there every day to play the games. What even weirder is that my friend has all 3 systems so cant he play on one of those. Unless he my friend likes to play with his feet and 3 consoles at once.

The manager at my BB said in about 2 weeks when I asked her.
The idea is to keep moving it back and forth. GS->BB, BB->GS, GS->BB, and so forth, to build credit sky high. That's how people build credit in the thousands while just starting at $20 or so. ;)

While the B1G1 is running at Blockbuster it makes sense IF you are going to be using that credit to buy games to take back to Gamestop while the extra $10 is going on.
Under normal circumstances, some of these small bumps aren't worth it.

Exactly. Most of the BBVs around here are picked clean so I wont even bother unless it's 2x back to BBV and I'll use the credit to buy new games there. Or wait for another B1G1F but that may be awhile away.
that was kinda my point. either i or somebody else cleaned out the bbvs of most of the flippable games, or at least the 360 ones (i'm too lazy to know the gc/ps2 flips, and ps3/wii are unflippable due to initial cost). so, without b1g1 bbv games, you're stuck with bbv credit and can't get back to the gs world.

do b1g1 happen that often or like once a year if we're lucky? if once a year, i got plenty of time to rack up bbv credit.

Hmm, I wouldn't want to cost someone his job because I was intentionally looking for out of date price stickers to fuel my flipping rampage. Maybe if I though the employee was a jerk, but the two store managers here are both cool. It really does suck for the employees then that GS corp likes lowering then raising prices on stuff (even though the employees should be conscientious with updating stickers).

The last one was earlier this year, I believe. Sometime around January or February - I remember picking up Chromehounds, Guy Game, Family Guy, and Top Spin 2.

no SST, EoJ or HC:BftP anywhere in 30miles of my radius lol. Decided to go with condemned 2 and Rockband to turn 45$ gs credit to 66$ credit @ BBV. And all my BBV are out of stuff for me to flip lol. Going to hit up a further blockbuster sometime tomorrow to see what they have.

I got very lucky today.

I found Beautiful katamari, Animal Crossing, and TWO MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 (PS2) at one BB.

All the Katamari and Animal Crossing were $10, MVC2 were both $15.

I also have $22.10 in credit at GS, and $90 at BBV.

I'm putting the MVC up for trade. PM me if you're interested at all.

if BB does drop TIV, when does it occur. I have EOJ and RSV2 to trade in, but want to play em for a bit first. How long should I wait.

edit: I forgot to ask, what ps2/GC games should I keep an eye out for. I know MVC 2, but what. I haven't been looking for any of them at all. Or any requests, cause I'll be checking out BB tomorrow probably.

Well, there was one just a few months ago. But it is rare that it will coincide with a GS deal like this one! I guess I have one advantage over most of you guys. No GR near me means very few (if any) other people doing BBV flips of any sort. I have had my pick of as many games as I want for this sale. I thought I'd have to visit a lot of stores but I've only gone to about 1/3 of those I planned to and I really can't see myself doing too much more. I've traded so many games into GS that I might be pushing it a bit on that end now ;).
is IO's list of BBV --> GS trade ins current? sorry if this has already been asked :(
Current as of last reports - most of which were yesterday. There could always be a small drop or two here or there that people haven't seen yet, but for the most part it is up to date.

how many at GS, just so I now. I'm probably at somewhere around 20 at this point.

I dunno - I'll give you a total when I get back. I hope to do 12 just right now. I did 24 yesterday and about that many 2 days before.

but if you spread them around at different GSs is that ok. Like say 4 here, 6 here, and 12 there, and then 4 at one of those again and so on?

Update for the OP iO.

Bionicle Heroes $9.99 -> $6.65

TIV dropped $0.50.

Just traded in Condemned 2, Viking, Turning Point and HC. $81->$126 in one transaction. Not bad. Picked up 4 $14.99 games too.The store I went to only has one $9.99 game. Hopefully I can find another $9.99 game. Those were awesome when they were available around here. Always had a ratio of 1.5+. With the $14.99 games I'm lucky if I can get a ratio of 1.2.

The 360 coupon was indeed better... I'm averaging a ratio of 1.46 so far. I haven't found any Rock Band's or Eye of Judgments around here so I'm out of luck.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 18.XX > BBV? Saw it used for 34.99 so probably not much
I was actually just looking at one in the BB I went to. Saw it tagged at $29.99. Probably a $20 TIV.

is BBV pretty good on returns? I had no intention to play it. One of the games I purchase to flip didn't hold value will they let you exchange for any title of the same price or lower? Since I got this as a free one from the B1G1

yup i always make it a point to reserve games at my local bb since they are very good to me. i prolly picked up most of my new ps3 games from them, rock band bundle included.

i think im done with this flipping until we see some 2x flips from GS->BB. i've traded in way too many games to the same 4 GS. 90% of those games came in BB cases so that doesn't help at all. i just unloaded my last 4 games and just got this weird vibe from the workers. they remembered i used the ncaa coupon before and denied me when i tried to use it again. i bought a condemned and the clerk asked if i loved that game or something since i just bought 4 360 copies not too long ago (i actually only bought 2). had to play off the whole transaction like i was doing everything for my brother this time.

zelda twilight princess trades in for $15 if you could find that at BB.

if anyone cares heres my ending summary for this epic coincidence of promos:

started out with $470 BB credit in June
began flipping games to GS once they started the $10 promo. i pretty much cleaned out all the $9.99 games at this time. if only i waited for the b1g1. ended up going around snatching up the few $9.99 games i missed and a bunch of $14.99 games

here's what i ended up with :

Gamestop
$785.85
$29.30 ncaa 09 preorder
$5 preoders for brothers in arms 2, mercenaries 2, and hawx
talladega nights BD
flags of our fathers HD
warhawk ps3

Blockbuster
$150.51
rogue galaxy ps2

F.Y.E
$207.80 gift card

lol, not sure why it posted before i finished, but its there now.
REMINDER...
I highly recommend buying now so we can keep a good reputation at blockbuster. They are giving away a ton of credit and i hope this doesn't deter them from running promos again!
Damn....And i thought that buying every old, crappy, and over priced $14.99 and under game that they would never sell otherwise was enough.

Joking aside they only give you BBV credit so your going to spend it in store anyway hence why BBV is slow on banning people for excessive trading USUALLY. Could you imagine if BBV gave cash. Flipping would officially be my part time job.

I wonder if they'll let us turn our credit into shares at the next stockholder meeting. ;) We'll have a hostile takeover and then we'll rename all the GS stores to CAG!

Meh. What a mediocre flipping run. I only managed to net around a $115 - $150 or so profit in credit for the same amount of effort and $50 out of pocket today. Almost every $30 or more flip simply isn't available in my area and Time Crisis is one hell of an irritating game to get rid of at BB (Thank god I only bought four of them). Tomorrow provided the manager isn't around I might buy some Vikings then call it quits after I ditch the rest of this B1G1 fodder. Way too much energy with too little payback to justify the strain to my gas tank. Plus I found out my favorite Blockbuster employee just graduated college so there goes the best customer service I could ever find in any store.

Ah well. I can certainly wait for a 360 until better flipping opportunities arise. Honestly.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 18.XX > BBV? Saw it used for 34.99 so probably not much
Ok well something very weird happend to me at GS just now. I had to go to the market to get some food and its right by BB and GS so I said why not stop in.

Well I saw a copy of Condemned 2 for $27 so i grabbed that but also grabbed another PSeye, just the game, since it goes for $36 tiv at BB so a 16+ in BB credit. I also traded in 2 games I got a BB yesterday. Everything went as normal, but just now I checked my receipt I saw that he charged me 2 $2 refurb fees on games with cases and I dont think had any scratches, what dick right? But I also noticed that it cost me - $21.50 WHAT THE F*CK!!!

He didn't charge me for condemned 2 or Eye of Judgment. I already traded them in at BB, she took EOJ no questions asked too. Is this my problem or theirs (GS's)?

I now have $160 GS and $93 BB But my GS should be more like $120 if they cahrged me for the 2 games.

edit; I asked for a bunch of tivs from the manager at BB

they are:

NG sigma - $20
UT III - $30
MLB 07 - 13 tiny tiny flip
Untold Legends - 13
AC - 16
Sonic - 9
the bigs - 9
surfs up - 9

slash = no flip

rest of list is also no flip

You didn't hear this from me...

They've added a new column to the trade screen now that says cash price. Thus, it's looking like corporate is tinkering with the idea of giving cash or credit. As of right now, the column is inoperable (ie-it's there, but we can't use it), but it might become something in the future (or it might not... only time will tell).

Consider it their way of making it up to you for charging you refurb fees. It's GS's problem... not yours or BBVs.

It really depends. Can you live with yourself with this? It's practically stealing. I would actually go into the gamestop the next day and pay for this. The manager at BB just did this to me. I got charged $14.99 for four games. The system gave me 3 games for free on a screw up. I told him the system screwed up. I like being honest I guess. If I were you though, I would go and ask them if they could get rid of the refurb fees because you were being honest. If they say no, don't pay them. ;)

And I just noticed that one out of the 4 games I bought at BB doesn't have a game in it. What... the hell man. I knew I should have checked if the games were in the cases before I left. Figures that I couldn't count on the employee looking in the case. Seriously man... It's worse than gamestop. Some games are in the cases and others aren't. Why?

Horaaay I think :whee:

btw at GS both managers said that EOJ never comes with the pseye and such. Weak, I thought this could be a good deal, but i guess my find was very very YMMV.

edit: I do feel guilty, but Gs has reamed me enough so I call it even.

All added up now they charged me 24 dollsrs in refurb fees. I didn't realize but nearly every time I traded in a pair of games, one of them was a refurb, wtf. Maybe its just my GS, anyone else getting excessive refurb fees.
is BBV pretty good on returns? I had no intention to play it. One of the games I purchase to flip didn't hold value will they let you exchange for any title of the same price or lower? Since I got this as a free one from the B1G1
can someone confirm if you return a game from the B1G1 freebie and don't want it is it good to go?

Unreal Tournament III is $30, eh? I saw copies in just about every store today. Plentiful amounts. Hopefully by Monday they'll still be there as it isn't much but better than nothing.

i've exchanged the game for another of the same price, but haven't tried returning. you could always just trade the game back in to them. $9.99 games get $6 TIV and $14.99 games get $8

I think you can only trade it for a game of the same value.

Keep it then. If they're going to be dicks with those refurb fees. Ask them why you get charged refurb fees too. Don't let them do that shit.

The GS I trade at(I've traded in over 30 games to it so far) has never charged me one refurb fee yet. Most of the games I get are in good condition, but I just finished trading in 4 games today that were in just BAD condition. The manager rang me up and he had no problem taking them without giving me refurb fees.

CaoPi, they'll let you exchange it for something equal. Just tell them it's skipping or something.

And Warner, dear God. CAG could -really- be the reason why BB goes out of business.

Current as of last reports - most of which were yesterday. There could always be a small drop or two here or there that people haven't seen yet, but for the most part it is up to date.
thanks so much as always io :)

I could find any at my GS, but I'll keep looking. But I think Condemned and Viking are better flips, right?

Also I still cant find any rock bands. And I asked one of the employees if the ps2 instruments work with the ps3 and he said no, he asked another employee but they both said no. Do they, just curious?

You know what I just realized?

You can just buy games at BB, then trade them BACK into said BB.

Rinse and repeat. You would only make like $1 on each trade but you can do it as many times as you want.

Yeah, but it's a) not worth it, and b) a good way to get them to ban you (unless, of course, you're Kunai - in which case you'd actually just start randomly loading giftcards with money and taking sips off of every soda in the cooler, all the while with employees giving you a high-five and asking if you'd like a foot rub).

I know GR usually gets new games on Friday, but for high priority titles they sometimes get them early....any idea of NCAA 09 will arrive early?

Damn this thread moves fast.

Hmm I overhead the manager, she saw some guys buying some stuff from the B1G1. They asked her for the return policy, she says technically they're not suppose to take return for used games on unwanted ones? But saying it skips is better I suppose? ;)

yeah, I think it is only my GS that do it. I'm lookinga t all my receipts. I've traded in at 4 GS. What do you make of this?

GS #1 (my local one) - 18 games - 10 refurb fees - $18
GS #2 - 8 games - 1 refurb fee - $2
GS #3 - 6 games - 2 refurb fees - $4
GS #4 - 2 games ( but lost one receipt) - no refurb fees
