Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
She also went on to say that corporate is putting a lot stricter limits and is monitoring trades/buys at all BB stores, I dont know if thats true or not though.
Hmmm... If they monitor purchases now that might cause some problems . I mean they ought to be happy with getting rid of all that cheap junk that wasn't going to sell to anyone NOT flipping them to GS (I'm looking at you 6 copies of Spiderman 3 per store, 3 copies of WWE 2007, etc). I know that at each store where I've bought a stack they seemed thrilled. At one store the guy said his manager will be very happy because they have a limited amount of space to store the games under the counter and whenever they convert rentals they have to cram more in there. They keep each game in a case so it takes a lot of room (as opposed to my local store which uses paper sleeves) - I cleared out 16 of 'em...

However, nearly every time I've purchased they've been insisting on bringing up my account (even at stores I've never been to before). I think all but one of my purchases has been linked to my account. I don't think it is anything they were told to do - they are just trying to be helpful in keeping it on the account in case I have to make returns and don't have the receipt (that's what they say anyway). But if I do any more purchasing at new stores I'll just say I don't have an account.

I think, just to be safe, and considering the PS3 flips from GS are pretty weak anyway, I won't trade anything else back to BB for a while. I can convert some of that GS credit back in a month or two with another 25% coupon or B2G1 sale if I feel it is necessary. It sounds like from this thread there will be lots of other people with more active trading accounts that they can investigae first if any of this turns out to be true (which I doubt anyway...).

I'm actually a little more worried on the GS side of things - I need to find different stores to go to, though that means quite a bit of driving.

I'm still shocked the GS which should/could/does? easily keep track of all your transactions via your edge account can't see that >x people have traded in 5 copies of Shrek the Third and Meet the RObinsons. I guess they don't care.

BBV is much harder to trade to because you have to create a trade account at each store and then I only trade 1 or 2 copies to each store.

damn, I forgot about mirror's edge, I would have like that one.

Well I got 2 9.9 games at BB, but decided to get Bioshock too to keep. Why not I say. I had to pay 1.xx out of pocket though. After I traded in my remaining 4 games I got the DS3 for 10.xx in edge credit

I'm now atr $250ish GS none at BB. And thats the way I like it.

I'm wore out too, this thread has gone critical mass, and the GS trades are getting hard to find, so time to play some games instead. My boys are diggin UT3 and I played my first game of Civ Rev. It was way too easy on easy, so time to step up a little. I just watched the first episode of Battlestar Galactica on HD DVD, thats some good tv.

why would Gamestop care if you traded in 8 copies of Shrek? a game is a game... a trade is a trade... there are no rules saying you can only trade 1 game at a time... it's all money to GS... everyone fussing over multiple games and Blockbuster stickers are silly.

When I was asked why I was picking up duplicates of the same game (4 copies of one title) I just looked at them and said:

"Games for underprivlaged kids, Sir. You know Toys for Teens" No questions asked after that.

I wouldn't understand why BBV wouldn't want you to take the garbage that is clogging up the racks. Its not hurting them and I promise no one will be buy those Golden Compasses, Pirates, Or Spiderman 3 Games....unless they are flipping them.

Gamestop Buy 2 get 1 free on used games, starting December 26th!!!

Pure speculation but if the past few years is any indication, we can circle the date on the calendar.

Any idea of what will be good flips by then? Force unleashed? Gears of War 2? Madden 09? Most likely some smaller releases.

Felt like adding to the 'noobish' posts. :)

GS doesnt care about the money becuase they dont give crap for games and will make the money back even if they have to send the game back to their warehouse in TX and sell it online. The only reason gamestop limits the number of same game trades is to lower the risk of them being stolen. Im sure they would rather take in 2 stolen games then 10. I have been at GS when the police showed up looking for someone who was trading stolen games.
Ok, I am done flipping for the time being. And some bad news on the flipping front.

SO I think RSV2 is a no go now, I tried 3 BB and all the same result. So now I got a RSV2 I dont know what to do with. Ughh!!!
it only takes one person to ruin things for everyone else. i think i am done for the time being also. i see the same employees about every other day and they are probably getting suspicious of me. today i got turned down trying to use the 25% coupon for HC:BFtP and the dude told me to print out the whole page and come back. guess i will go enjoy some of the games i purchased until things calm down and for RSV2 you can add me :D. just got this game to play with my friend online.

i have $200 left in gs credit and $5 in bb credit. hopefully i can turn that $200 to a new xbox 360 from bb.

They care because its suspicious. Trading in different games is alright, it might be from your own personal collection. But when you have 8 copies of Shrek, why would you need that many? Did you steal these games? Its not always about the money, there are ethics involved too.

Lets wait for this:
Is it bad if I gave the BB district manager a copy of the PS3 flips along with how much each of the B1G1's is worth at GS?
Only a matter of time

I have come clean to 3 or 4 BBVs in my area. Since coming clean and explaining whats going on, the employees there are now much nicer, allow me to trade in whatever i want whenever i want with no limits to the number of same game titles BECAUSE TRULY it says on their trade screen the number they allow AND OFTEN its well over 100 :). But that was just my experience. And yes i had to show receipts. Going to 10 diff BBV in one day trading in 2 a piece is mad suspecious and will get you banned same day. They will add a flag to your account saying the games were possibly stolen. TRUST ME. I only have problems now when i want to give my local BBV a break and go off to some store with a Jr. Detective.

See I don't understand that. My GS managers don't care at all about the coupon. As a matter of fact the one guy told me to go grab a bunch of his other crap games to use the coupon on and get the discount. It helps there numbers out by selling used and gets crap out of the store.

My I had a heck of a day...

I went to 3 different BBV (all with in a 5 mile radius from my house) I picked up 16 used games (which used all $90 of my BBV credit)

so then it was flipping time.....I went to 3 different gamestops trading in 6 games at a time (Most were Spiderman 3, Spider man foe or friends, shrek the Third) after all promos I did...

90 BBV credit---> $170 GS Credit (not too bad since I can actually put to use my credit now)

When I got to the last Gamestop, All of the Computer systems were down corporate wide, so they could not issue credit or take trade ins....so Im like no biggie I will just come back later, with my head held high from the profit I recieved from flipping, I walk to my car put the key in the ignition, and it wouldent turn over....Battery died.....I got a jump....Head to wal-mart to buy a brand new car battery, they had every battery EXCEPT the one I needed, sold out (Only $52.98) Wal-Mart has EVERYTHING except what you need.

so I head to Pep boys and had to buy a $90 battery....so their went my profit :(

Well been there. During the Beowulf days. I was "Banned" for trading at one location. The other 4 that I go to know me and don't care that I trade 2 copies of a game to them nor am I banned. Its also because I don't get too greedy and just trade 2 copies at the store and thats it. Never two on the day or transaction. Again I figure 8x a game is plenty. No need to get greedy. Also, the BBV managers of the 4 stores LOVE ME. I cleared out all there old games and I pre-order some stuff there Star Wars, Madden, etc all preorder and payed off minus one dollar. One at each location gotta spread the wealth.

Feeling good, feeling great! I just added $35 to my Blockbuster credit and $30 to GameStop with any loss when I moved Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Time Crisis 4 from GS to BB and bought several games back. So, now up to $315 at BB and $180 at GS, and that was from $340 at BB and $52 at GS before today! And I don't even know what I'm going to buy!

Maybe I'll follow up and actually buy NCAA 09 for my great friend at GameStop, who does such an amazing job (which you normally don't see). ;)

Alright, last day of flipping I think for me, but some final tallies

$202.17 total spent on games/acquiring Edge Card
19 games traded to BBV @ 539.50 in credit
At least 46 games traded to Gamestop (lost my receipts for the first day, already threw em out, probably more around 70)
At least 42 receipts total
4 PS3 Coupons Used, 7 Xbox 360 Coupons used,

Got a MGS4 PS3 Bundle with 126.00 in BBV credit and 72 left at GS.

Again, I'd like to thank IO for the great list, and everyone for keeping so up to date on the best flips.

Also managed to lock my keys in my car, snag 2 VGA Cables/Universal Media Remote/64MB Memory Cars for the 360 for 29.64 total at Sears, and only used about $30.00 in gas in a span of 4 days.

I went to BBV for a second time today to exchange some games that were scratched. The guy asked me If I knew how to put custom firmware on a PSP. He told me he'd give me some free games If I hacked his PSP. Looks like I have a friend at Blockbuster now.

Today a cashier made me do 3 different trade ins at GS because I had 3 copies of Golden Compass. She also wanted to make me do different purchases to buy both copies of Eye of Judgment.

Also MtR :360: is $3.97 at CC (I think that is with 20% off though, which ends tonight)

Oh, I forgot to say, there is a BB on 17th st, in santa ana area that is very very nice. Both the managers are woman and one is old. The other one has a 360 so is fairly knowledgeable about games. They had no idea about the b1g1 sale until I told them, sort of weird. But she took EOJ from me no questions asked. I even said "Wow that gets a lot of credit, I have another one maqybe I'll bring it in." and she said Sure! So if you need a BB to trade into, not to buy from, try there if your in the area. Their b1g1 stuff is very limited, its not a GR store.

Just dont ruin it for everyone, I made friends with the managers so I hope they will be ok with me trading stuff in in the future.

edit: I also forgot to add that I played Blue Dragon adn well, I just didn;t like it, but I'm not a JRPG fan. So I traded that in with the RSV2 i had to GS, not bad. FYI I already have RSV2 for the 360, well now after the 25% off 360 coupon last week.

If your speaking is like your typing, I can imagine why. Good ol Cow Pee.

also this bioshock I got at Bb for $20 is brand new. I didn't realize it but it still has the Microsoft seal around it. It was in those clam shell cases, so are they 19.99 for a new or used copy. Mine just has a sticker on it that say 19.99. It wasn't shrink wrapped, just the sticker seals were on it.

also this DS3 is WAYYYYYYY better than the sixaxis, night and day. the weight and the joysticks are much better (the clicking R3/L3), plus rumble.

It was kind of tough taking those stickers off BBV cases I try to make them look spotless but the ones with the barcade tend to leave residue, any tips?

just bring in the discs. thats what I've done the last 3 trips to GS. I carefully peel off the stickers from 1-3 BB cases and then put all the games in those, like 5-6 discs in each. I've only gotten 1 refurb charge too.

edit: checked my receipt I've actually had 3 out of 32 games get refurb when just doing the discs. but 2 were $1 ones for $4 total. but only one guy told me, god they're so sneaky with those refub fees aren't they.

Bringing in discs only? I never do that knowing how some are anal about refurbish fees and generic cases! Also that would make it look like your trying to make a quick getaway or something! ;)

Nah man, GS employees really don't care about cases. The refurbished fees apply to the actual disc, whether or they're scratched or not.

Honestly, they don't care about cases.

Seems like someone has been flipping at my local BBV, found some clean F4 and Viking Cases.....with the GS stickers still on the spine -_- And of course, pretty much cleaned out except for one set of games. Shoulda asked if anyone came in buying a few dozen games XD

Maybe your just lucky out of the last 20 trades from BB to BS I did so one of them really got anal about blockbuster cases and took off some fees, they were mint and complete too! Btw he looked like that fat guy who rips off kids from the Simpsons. I'll try to avoid that GS for now

You'd think they would be happy getting a case since they dont need to use their own generic cases.

I can see how some GS employees would be picky about the cases, but usually they dont. My local one is picky as hell so i dont trade there anymore unless I know the game is either new or perfect. I also look at it like this, I now have a bunch of dvd/game case, although they still have the BB stickers on them, they were essentially free.

The real reason I didn't want to bring in the cases, without stickers, was that about 70% of the games I've gotten from BB lately have been in the black BB stamped cases which I dont want o bring into GS, and you shouldn't either. Hopefully GS will be slow to catch on to the BB flips.

oh, also if your looking for a fairly good and cheap GC controller, the gamestop 3rd party one I got is pretty good, the buttons are a bit mushy, but fine. For $15 credit I'll take it, plus its white to go with the Wii. But I still cant find any used GC mem cards, all the GSs I've been to have been out. I needed one since I've been stocking up on GC games. I got at BB Time Splitters 2, Killer 7, RE4, and something else.

Also, is Katamari Damacy for ps2 rare, at all I saw it my BB for $15 but passed, but if anyone wants one I can pick it up if its still there.

While I was at a BB today (one that I don't normally go to, its far), going around with a list, pulling some games so I assumed it was price drops. So, I asked her if any were going down to $14.99 and she said the price drops were effective tomorrow. I already knew price changes happened Sunday, I just wasn't thinking clearly at the time. Anyway, unfortunately I forget which title she said, but I'm pretty sure it was either Turning Point or Frontlines (probably Turning Point).

Anyway, point of the story is that some new game(s) will be $14.99 starting tomorrow. These ladies were really on the ball (pulling the games a day in advance) but I suspect most locations won't even bother with the price changes. so, we'll have to figure out what the game(s) are. It'll probably been another good one for flipping back to GS (for example, Turning Point sells for $29.99 so its gotta have a decent TIV).

Apparently it isn't.... I picked it up during the last B1G1 thinking that it was rare, but apparently not. Gamestop even had it in the Game Days sale brand new for $10 or something I think.

Yeah. I picked up Katamari Damacy for $8.99 at GS about a week ago.

FYI; Gamestops have tons of extra cases. Every time I trade in a game without a case, the manager or employee whips out a brand new 360 game case. There's tons of them behind the counter.

Skate (PS3) could be another decent flip from GS to BB for those looking to move credit. It'd be $17.54 after coupon and Edge. Not sure what it gets at BB, but it's probably worth looking into.

So, my game haul from the B1G1 wasn't too great, just PSU and Kameo (Yea I know, I'm not flipping/hoarding, wtf eh?) BUT I found this...

If I can find one like this from A Clockwork Orange I will be uber-happy. 14.99 on this. Very nice.

Just took a whopping 10 seconds out of my time to pick up a phone and got a quote of $23.

So, only a few bucks, but considering you could then take that $23 and buy 4 Spiderman 3's and flip them back to GS to $42, it makes it seem more worth it.

I meant to go back out to Blockbuster to dump the $150 credit I have on trade fodder. Its just been a tiring week. My MGS4 LE's are selling better than my Wii's, so I think I know what to get when I move more credit back to GS.

So.. today absolutely sucked in terms of flipping. I went back to the BB that sold me a case without the game inside. I had to choose some other $14.99 game. Luckily, they had one.

I also picked up 2 $9.99 games. Not bad. I really didn't want to go there though. I had just gotten back from a day at Lake Tomahawk Water Park. Climbing up hills to get to the top of the slides sucked ass.

I made my merry way out of BB and I went out of my way to hit up a GS. What happened? They close the store 15 minutes earlier. Wasted my god damn time going to the gamestop there. Guess I'll just wait to trade in the games tomorrow.

It's just too bad that GameStop doesn't have a set time when they lower the trade-in value on games or accessories. We can trust Blockbuster lowers the price on Sunday and then follows with a drop in the trade-in value on Tuesday. Petition time? lol, jk

thanks for the update man. But my BBVs are basically dried from all my flipping lol. I bought about 20games + from each store with all the flippings. All left now is VT3 and spiderman 3. Might actually sign up for one of those game/movie pass before the promotion end. Thanks IO! you've made my entertainment life alot more pleasure without hurting my wallet

I'm extremely annoyed. I just had my first stress free flipping run effectively ruined by another first - a run in with a manager turned Jr. Detective which just so happened to be the same she-beast I thought snatched my bundle. I had built up a decent rapport with her since my entire frenzy started Monday and NOW all of a sudden she questions whether or not these games are stolen?

...Ugh.

She caught me so off guard I accidentally blurted out I traded at one other store near my "home" but never gave her the location after she asked whether or not I purchased these from my friends (which I gladly confirmed). Now convinced of how indefinitely screwed I am... immediately I expected her to extend her ban hammer across every store with a couple phone calls, but apparently she either never called or is postponing it for the time being because I managed to get rid of four more Lynches and Vegas 2 without question or hassle. I know for certain though my account there is either flagged or I'm outright banned at that store. A fate I'll gladly live with although I had to restrain myself from leaping over the counter and strangling her.

Needless to say they won't be seeing me any time soon (if ever again) nor any other BB after I rid myself of these last four games until a $5 - $30 flip discovery is made. Well... assuming I don't wake up tomorrow banned from every store. =\

All and all after I get rid of what's left I managed to turn $200 - $250 out of pocket into $842.06 in BB credit. Not enough for two games along with the 360 without touching a ghastly amount of what I had reserved for a PS3 (I was looking forward to at least clearing $900), but more than enough to consider myself victorious for time, money, effort and gas spent.

Thanks again for everything you guys. After tomorrow I can finally kick back and devise better strategies for unexpected BB bullshit to help safeguard future runs.

Traded in two HC:BoTP today and bought 12 games, 10 for flipping and leeping LoZ:TP and MGS2: Substance. Had to go to two stores about 10 miles away to get those 12 games.

I went to a BBV that I never went to before during the week. The guy was telling me some idiot traded many many FF:RoSS and bought all their 360's game, presumably to flip back to GS. He said they found out about all his FF trades between the stores and banned him. Too bad he was able to buy the games to flip back to GS. He mentioned an "insider" web site called CAG. I played ignorant and laughed at FF being on sale for $5 at TRU b/c it totally sucked. Anyways, I walked out there with only Armored core and RE4 for PS2. The guy picked it cl
