Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

I'm guessing most of the manuals are stolen. They usually put the manuals in the rental cases so people have a manual to read/look at when they rent the game.

Have you guys seen any Street Fighter games on PS2? I thought i saw a Street Fighter Anniversary Collection but can't remember the price or location i saw it at :(

well in my store we keep the inserts and manuals but once in a while they get thrown away, but never on my watch. as for manuals not being in cases its because since all manuals are in a box its quite hard to find so unless we see it right away while doing the rental to used product we dont put it in. But u can always ask to have them look for it, but never had one person ask for the manual when selling a used game.

I guess I'm just a stickler for those kind of things. I look for the best copy of a game when I go shopping at GS and look for the one with all the inserts. Found a non GH Morrowind GoTY yesterday with the map and manual in mint condition. I choose not to buy things unless they come relatively complete so probably wouldn't buy much at BBV since most stuff is missing the manual.

I hit the f*ckin mtoher load today. If you remember the "evil" BBV, where the guy completely gave his flipping status away and had it revoked soon after. Well I said I wasn't going back there, but that would have been a royal mistake. They converted a few rentals, but the few were the top flippers out there.

I got all at the same BBV, the manager first said I could only buy 2 of each game, but hesitantly let me buy them all.

4 x Castlevania: Drac X (there's still 2 more, so if you know the BBV I speak of go get em.)
4 x Dungeon Siege
2 x iridium runners
4 x Golden Compass
She had no idea what I was doing with them, I said I'm getting them for some friends and she just said thats great, "at least there off our hands..." which I thought was funny
Keep in mind this was a manager I never met before and never intend to again.

So then I needed some fillers, Incredibles (GCN), Patapon (psp), ect ect.I ended up with 24 games, and still got $17.xx BBV credit. This is from prior and 3 Octomanias traded at the 2 BBVS right next too me.I accomplished what I wanted to get at GS, Nyko wireless wii sensor bar and Power Supply for wii. Got those and also to get 2 preorders, Fable 2 ($10 min), and Force unleashed. Also some more credit.

The GS I had hold the wii sensor bar for me, sort of far, but closest store that had one, sort of off my track home from work, oh well. Well the 2 guys that worked there are fucking hilarious.
I know you weren't there but imaginee a white guy with glasses hopping in place yelling that the force unleashed is awesome and the other guy, white no glasses, trying to get me to preorder something, but laughing at the guy hopping. Funny to me. Also that kid that comes in every day was there playing Rock band, wtf..everyday.

Anyway the tourettes guy was awesome, I told him I preordered the madden psp and asked if I was supposed to get some coupon or something. he goes oh yeah and hands me 2 cards.

One was the $15 bonus (cant deny me know f*ckers, I got a card stock one now), and the other is: Get $40 toward Madded 09, pruchase or preorder($30 for Wii)) if you trade in NCAA 09 I can post a scan if you want or if it hasn't already been posted. Not that good, not *bonus* credit, just $40 instead of like $30, so not that good. The other guy who posted the $40 credit towards NCAA 09 probably saw this.

Sorry for such a long post, but today was pretty much my best flip day in a long time, and I thought I was out of the game... I still have a castlevania, golden compass, Jade empire, and 2 other games to trade in so probably $35 more after tomorrow.

p.s. the Wii sensor bar I got is awesome, wireless,a dn shuts off after 1 or 2 hours if you want. Sort of big, but wireless and only $20.

How much would you say that BBV lot cost? I am going to convert some more money into BBV and try the stores again sometime early next week. See what I get. Also was it a GR BBV?

Please post pics my kind sir because the stores around me didn't have a clue about the other coupon that came with NCAA 09.

I dont have my receipt but I think it cost me 84.xx BBV credit if I remember correctly. After the big flip games, the rest were either 6.99 but mostly 4.99. One pair of 9.99.

It converted to well over $120 GS credit (+ preorders and $40 worth of stuff), cant remember exactly, he didn't give me the receipt, just the receipt for the things I bought, too bad I traded in some random guess ps2 games not on the tiv list too. I still got 5 more games to trade in including castlevania, but I left my jade empire at home this morning so I save 4 games to trade in tomorrow.

Here's the pics for cdeener or anyone who wants them. Sorry the quality is sh*t, but I forgot to turn the flash on. I'll post some high res scans if you like of front and back.
So you're the guy who keeps outbidding me.
Uh oh, dont hurt me. I hear how angry you can get sometimes...

There are another 6 ending in the next day from the same seller. I'm not sure if I want to bid on more considering I wont get them til after the values drop (assuming its still Tuesday). The guy is also selling tons of American Idol Kareoke Revolutions, Unreal Tournament 3's, Kane & Lynch's, Time Crisis's, and Rock Band's. If only he knew about trading at Blockbuster, lol.

I just realized something if you traded in NCAA 09 for Madden you would have only paid $20 for NCAA so both games will only cost you $40. But if you paid cash for both then you actually paid $80 for both games. So, in the end Gamestop is saving you a whole $40 because if you bought both they would run you $120.

Thats not how it works...
This deal has the potential to be better than the extra 10 deal when you consider that the games don't have to be current gen. There seems to be a plethora of Iridium Runners, Meet the Robinsons, and The Golden Compass at every single store. This deal is even sweeter for those who have GSs that are participating in the extra %50 trade-ins.

Only problem now, how do we get BBV credit?

It's actually pretty easy to get a 1 to 1 flip from GS to BBV (no longer able to gain credit both ways), and gain some more credit when flipping from BBV to GS. All of this is ironic since we're usually flipping games from GS to BBV for credit.
Might as well sit on the GS credit for now, as there are no great flips - there will inevitably be another Stranglehold-style flip ($18-$36) at some point, just be patient. Or if the B2G1 ever happens, there should be some good opportunities for turning $50 at GS into $90 at GR :)

Yes, but I'm fairly sure the tiv of ncaa 09 is $30 and with this bonus 40% you'll end up with around $42 which can be used on any game no just madden 09.

Or even using the $15 bouns coupon you got with your preorder will get you $7.50 +$30 so $37.50 + (atleast $11.50 with anotehr game).

So $49 for 2 games, one being only $4 tiv originally.

So this is only a good deal if you have ncaa 09, dont want it anymore and trade it for madden by itself, with no other games.
Thats not how it works...
Sorry my friend that is how it works:

$60 for NCAA 09 - the $40 bonus trade-in value= $20 out of pocket for NCAA 09
$60 for Madden 09 - $40 trade-in for NCAA 09= $20 for out of pocket Madden 09

So your total cost out of pocket $80 because you originally paid $60 for NCAA 09 then another $20 for Madden 09.

The only problem is will Gamestop keep the trade value at $30 during the promotion because they have a tendency to drop values at unexpected times.
Hey io, when this thread hits 5000 posts (5000 posts!!!) can we have a new one? Please? And don't you guys go and drive up the post counts to race to 5000.
Well, I had said earlier that I wanted to wait until the B1G1 madness was over and start fresh with "regular" BB/GR stuff then (including an overhaul of the OP). I'm not sure I'll have time to do all that any time soon, but we'll see. The current B1G1 talk is much more mellow than before so maybe it would be OK to switch over now.
I just can't bring myself to find 10 PS2 games to make $25-$30 in GS credit. Too much work, zero motivation at this point.
Uh, I'm not sure what math you are using there but I took 7 games that are readily available (IR/GC + other things that are common like Bee Movie, Spyro, Cars Mater National) and got $60 in GS credit for them. If you are taking 10 PS2 games and only getting $25-$30 you are doing it wrong ;). (Unless you meant profit - I made about $30 profit on the 7 games, so 10 games should get you about $40 on top of $45-$50 base credit).
I feel the opposite, the rush on 360 games was like work. Get as much as possible as quick as possilbe, then the deal was extend, so my range of how far i'd go grew.
Now that i got a bunch of credit, i'm enjoying searching for those PS2 and PSP gems more causually.
^^ This... I actually find this more fun than the previous flipping even though it isn't quite as profitable I suppose (if you were able to use the $15 coupon before).

So you're spending $80 to keep Madden '09 and rent NCAA '09 for a few weeks.

Real CAG's are stoked about getting Madden '08 for $10 instead.

i got madden 08 for 7.49 WOOOO LOL

I managed to take advantage of a fuck-up at Blockbuster today. They accidentally marked Dark Sector for $9.99 instead of the regular $34.99. So, I got that and Conker: Live and Reloaded, essentially buying each for $5 and some change with the B1G1. I was trying to get Robot Chicken: Star Wars, but they didn't have any copies in, and hadn't received any yet. :(

Oh well! I saved $30, so it wasn't all bad.
All these copies of Iridium Runners (and all 3 I bought are absolutely mint) made me wonder about it a bit:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/iridiumrunners

So it came out just this year! That explains the mint condition of most copies at BBV and the higher than expected trade-in value at Gamestop. it looks like it was released as a budget title ($20) and has decent reviews for what it is. I'd almost be tempted to keep one but I know I'll never play it - I have a huge enough backlog of AAA PS2 titles that I'll probably never play .
Don't you find it weird that, for being so new, it's a blue-back PS2 game?

Also, don't try Platypus PSP, only nets $2.80 after all is said and done.

Lastly, does anyone know the TIV of Darkstalkers PSP?
Well, I had said earlier that I wanted to wait until the B1G1 madness was over and start fresh with "regular" BB/GR stuff then (including an overhaul of the OP).
I agree, this would be a good idea.

Besides... why not give CAG 2.0 a full test. 10,000 posts shouldn't be a problem, right? :)

Also, saw someone trade in gears of war today and was surprised that it still fetched $25 in TIV.
nope...i don't go to that one..too far away

i have been to the pleasant valley store a few times, yes

which stores do you go to?
I live in Durham so have been to a few around here; but I have been commuting to NC State so go to the stores in Cameron and on Avent Ferry more often. Just stopped by the Pleasant Valley store yesterday and noticed there was almost nothing worthwhile there for purchase and tons of copies of high-value flips from gs- its all good though that's usually not on my way home.

Well, we wanted to go to the Mall to hit up the JC Penney sale and then go to a park we'd never been to before, so of course this was a great opportunity to dump my 2 stacks of games at the two Mall Gamestops.

So I turned another 11 BBV games into $81.20 at Gamestop. Not bad - total spent at BBV for those 11 was about $43.50. And I still have yet to get hit with a refurb fee. These PS2 games are almost all in Blockbuster cases (unlike the 360 stuff) so they do seem to be taking a closer look at them but I've still managed to stick to pretty mint games (fortunately nearly all the Iridium Runners and Golden Compass games are mint since I don't think anyone ever rented them ;)).

On the way home we drove by about 3 or 4 Blockbusters, some of which I hadn't visited yet (and one that was well stocked when I did). It was very hard not to stop at those but the family wouldn't let me .

With the $15 coupon I got today, can it be used on more than 2 games? or what?

io, you've used it right? how did you get more than 2 games for the bonus?

Multiple transactions with multiple coupons - YMMV of course ;). It is better to just try one set at one store, then trade your non-qualifying stuff. Then save another for the next store you visit, etc...

Got Splinter Cell Double Agent + Star Wars KOTOR II for Xbox $9.99 each = $5 after B1G1. Also Just Cause and Tomb Raider Legend..$6.99 each = $3.50 after promo.Smokin! ;)

So, do you think if I walk in with like 10 qualifying games and one "authentic" coupon, I'll be able to do 5 different transactions, or what? I'll probably try and use it at the GS I got it and just go, "Oh, I thought it was for each pair of games." if they tell me I cant. Hopefully I'll be able to use it though.

What they will tell you is to trade them all at once at it will "automatically work" which is BS - if you do that chances are you won't even get the deal on the first pair. So I'd just trade one pair in, then ask if you can use it again on another pair. I would suspect they will only tell you it is good for one use and will keep the coupon. Good luck though ;).

Well to my amazement when I went to Bestbuy last night to see if they had Octomania Wii not only did they have it but they had three copies so I made sure to buy them all. Too bad I don't have any other games to trade with them.

i hit one of the BB(the one wont transfer my credit to my value card) yesterday, i cant believe it . they have 10X manhunt 2, 10X Bee movie and 6X iridium runners and a few Golden Campass. thats after i took once copy each. Do you think i should go back and get it all? The problem i have is to get it matchs the price and finding other filler.

Now that you mention it I did go in my closest BB yesterday for a quick second after finding out that my girl had left a movie that was rented out at home that I would have to pay for if I tried to trade in one of the Octomania's I have they had four copies of Manhunt 2 PS2 sitting on top of all the games and I know they have at least two copies of Golden Compass PS2 hidden in there that I saw before.

The only thing I hate is that at this same BB they have all of there games on a table in front of the counter mixed together and they don't have updated prices on some games so the average person wouldn't know that they are $14.99 to begin with. Now at my GR on the other hand they have all of the $14.99 and under games together in bins in the middle of the store.
i hit one of the BB(the one wont transfer my credit to my value card) yesterday, i cant believe it . they have 10X manhunt 2, 10X Bee movie and 6X iridium runners and a few Golden Campass. thats after i took once copy each. Do you think i should go back and get it all? The problem i have is to get it matchs the price and finding other filler.
You should have been able to, atleast, pick up 2 copies of each title. Depending on the clerk, they should have no problem selling multiple copies to you for your "friends and family". Remember, what you are doing is not illegal. They should be happy that you are buying unwanted games. I was able to buy 3 copies of VT3 and Spiderman 360 in one transaction. The clerk didn't even bat an eye. Of course, this was at a BB where I don't have a trade account.

Leung, tell them that you want to buy a gift card, and fill it with the exact amount of credit you have at the store. It works the same as a value card, and they can't deny your right to a gift card! =P

Also, io - you were right, there's still some good money to be made here. Although one of the BBV's in my area had noticeably and hastily been ransacked (3 vikings, 4 eye of judgements) they did leave all the PS2 games behind. Spent $20 out of pocket for 2 Octomanias and a Ninja Gaiden Wall 'Graffix' at Best Buy (10% coupon plus the graffix had been marked down to .50) - flipped to BBV for $46, and used that credit to buy 3 Iridium Runners, 2 Manhunts, Bee Movie, Spyro, Meet the Robinsons and a few others along with an Eve plush toy (I couldn't believe they still had them, but this BBV is pretty slow and they had a ton of Wall-E's left.) The grand total was 45.95 - flipped them to Gamestop for about $70.00. Was also able to buy the last Wii they had in stock there.

Iridium Runners, Manhunts, and Bee Movie's were in plentiful supply - however, none of the Blockbusters I went to had more than 2 PSP games for sale.

Actually, yea they can. Says on the trade agreement that Blockbuster can choose to do whatever they want (maybe not those words exactly).

I was surprised that Blockbuster was selling The Lost Boys on Blu-ray for only $20. It would be a bit much if i had spent cash, but for $20 credit, i'd say its a must buy.

I am tempted to buy that $21.99 Game/Movie pass with my credit. It seems like Octomania is the only good flip to BB.

Off topic: "The Dark Knight" is the best movie of the year, hands down(Yes, Ledger is going to win an Oscar). I can't watch another superhero movie because I know it's going to suck compared to the Dark Knight.

Don't say that Watchmen looks very promising....

Oh and yea I want another good flip to BB ASAP.
max payne also looks very promising...but now we're veering off topic o_O
That... and for being the voice of Meg Griffin... Mila Kunis was quite hot at comic-con.

There are still some good flips to BBV (FI, EoJ),,, just a matter of finding them in store atm.

I found Octomania for $10 at bestbuy today last copy, tempting to keep it since I just got a Wii. But I might trade this in

I know this is more related to GS but figured I would post it here anyways. Does anyone know how to find out if/when they have Wiis in stock? I cant look it up on their inventory search on their site. I have called before and they just say they get shipments of stuff every day and they get them whenever they come in. Which doesnt help me much. Im looking to pick one up in the next week or so.

Well, this is how my day went. Stopped by my closest GR and traded in one copy of Octomania because I don't want to draw any attention by trading in more than one copy when I don't have any other games with me. So with some other little credit I had I got these:

Manhunt 2 PSP (Disk Only)
Manhunt 2 PS2 (Case & Game) they had at least three copies of this.
Spiderman: Friend or Foe PS2 (Complete)
Pikmin 2 GC (Case & Game) was disappointed they didn't have it complete but I can find a manual at GS one day.
A couple of others for filler.

Then, I traded in another Octomania at a regular BB and they but the credit on my account so I did something I normally don't do and bought some movies because they didn't have many games left.

Today Trade In:
PS3 Games:
Skate - 23
Heavenly Sword - 26
Kane & Lynch - 30
Resistance - 23
Incredible Hulk - 36
Folklore - 26
Madden 08 - 13
Warhawk - 26

Total - 203

Im saving my credits up for Guitar Hero World Tour.

is this Octomania for Wii at Best Buy nationwide or YMMV?

can someone pleas check their receipt from bestbuy and tell me the Sku# of Octomania, thank you

So Octomania is 23 dollars at Best Buy, huh? That's insane. I bought a copy from BB for 9.99 thinking I'd play it, but that's tempting to trade it in considering I've been buying a ton of games from their sale.

Went around and picked up a few titles. Risked some credit on some unknowns and, although I found a couple new flips, suffered a loss. Sucks because there was a Spyro and a Nicktoons game I could've grabbed to replace the two stinkers.

PS2
Barnyard $9.99 -> $8.40
Front Mission 4 $6.99 -> $1.20
SLAI (Steel Lancer Alliance International or some crap) $9.99 -> $2.10
Spiderman Friend or Foe $9.99 -> $8.40

XBOX
Star Wars KOTOR II $9.99 -> $8.40
