Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices
It's in the second post: Power Rangers Super Legends.

...

I'm also really curious as to what the Power Rangers game gets at Gamecrazy. I think I'll stop by one first tomorrow and, after trading my last Iridium Runners and a SoF Payback there I'll see what it gets. But then I'd be stuck with 2 PS2 Golden Compass and that would be tragic . I kind of forced myself to come up with 2 sets after buying 2 GCs and 2 SM FoFs to go along with the Power Rangers'. But if Power Rangers trades well at Gamecrazy then I can load up on them tomorrow without needing to find 4 other games to go with them for GS. Though I suppose that one is good enough to trade at GS without any promo. It will still be $9.90 with standard Edge boost - a near double anyway. So yeah, I guess I should buy them no matter what.
IO, why dont you price match the TIV of all your games to gamecrazy like you were doing with blockbuster? Show the receipt showing the TIV after the bonuses and see what they say. No harm in askin', right?
IO, why dont you price match the TIV of all your games to gamecrazy like you were doing with blockbuster? Show the receipt showing the TIV after the bonuses and see what they say. No harm in askin', right?
You know, that didn't even occur to me, but on the 2 I traded already at my local GC (the one that price matches without hassle - it is highly YMMV at the others) I made more than at Gamestop (on Iridium Runners and Soldier of Fortune Payback). I suppose I could take Power Rangers and some of the others there as well, but those guys know me really well and they don't know the extent to which I flip stuff so I don't really want to push it with them. It isn't worth that to get GC credit instead of GS (though I have more than enough at GS and wouldn't mind more GC which is why I was saving my last IR and SoF for another Gamecrazy tomorrow). But giving them the receipts (and they are required to keep them when pricematching) which have proof I've already traded the same games into another store isn't the best way to keep a low profile. I have done this in the past on a few of the really good Blockbuster trade-in prices and they didn't seem to care, but I don't want to push it for just a few extra bucks in credit.

At the GC I'm going to tomorrow I was once told that they "guarantee" they have better trade-in prices so there's no need to price match. When I showed them a Blockbuster trade quote they balked and said, no, they don't in fact, "guarantee" any such thing, he just said that because he assumed their price would be better than any other place (probably thinking of Gamestop, though even that isn't true for many games). Interestingly enough, this was on Beowulf which I then took to the nearby Blockbuster instead which is what started all my trouble back in December. Needless to say I'm a bit cheesed at that Gamecrazy for not following their own corporate policy but there wasn't much I could do about it at the time. The guy said he would "get in trouble" if he adjusted the trade-in values from their standard rate .

I picked up:
Patapon (14.99)
Far Cry (360) (14.99)
Virtua Fighter 5 (ps3) (mismarked at 14.99, normally 16.99)
Conan (360) (14.99)
So... I'm all spent. I think I got every game I wanted, pending any PSP games...

Started BB->GS flipping again. I was able to pick up 5 GC, 4 IR, 3 Manhunt 2 PSP, 3 Power Rangers and one each of Mario Power Tennis and SW:JK2. After picking up 2 Wii Fits, I am down 2 $38 in BB credit. Some GSs by me show Octomania in stock, so I might be able to keep it going for these last couple of days. Passed on alot of $9.99 games since I am mostly seeking the good profit makers.

At the last BB, I wasn't able to find any IR but when I checked their rental section, they had many of the flippable games still out for rental(including 2 IRs). Hopefully, they convert them tomorrow so I can clean up. Sold the 2 Wii Fits for cash so I have probably spent little or no cash out of pocket since I first started flipping in May(previously sold a Wii).

*edit* Just noticed that the Mario Kart: DD that I picked up for $14.99 has a TIV base of $12. :D I was trying to pick up every Mario game I saw including Mario Golf. GS sells it for $14.99 so TIV probably won't be good. Just realized that I passed on a couple of Mario Party games since they weren't on my list. #-o I will have to go back to check which ones they were.

So far, I would say only half of GS I've vistited had a copy, and besides one, each copy was that gutted copy. I assume its a combination of various flippers in my area, parents and kids who see this new game for 9.99 and maybe the fact that many stores didnt recieve that many to start with either.

Welp, hopefully SST & Octomania held as they do seem to be the only 2x+ profit flips out there.

I plan on hitting a Blockbuster right at 10am, so i'll have them look up the TIV's.

What is sst ?? All my local Gamestops are out of Fatal Inertia, FF4 : RSS, DBZ, AREA 51, etc... Basically all the stuff in the 2nd post of this thread...

Thanks !
PS3
Kane & Lynch - $30
I just wanted to point out that if this holds at BB Sunday/Tuesday (since it appears it could change either day now) this is a decent GS -> BB transfer game as it is $22.49 after Edge (or $19.99 if you use Edge + the 10% off used games coupon). And unlike SST this seems readily available at most GS stores. There is only 1 used SST in the entire metro area I live in (covering 10-14 or so Gamestops) and it is one of the furthest away so I won't bother with that. K&L is at all of the nearest 3 stores...

Also, we need to find out the Wii and 360 trade-in on Sega Superstar Tennis. Even though they cost a bit more at Gamestop ($17.99 vs $12.99 for the PS3 version) they might be decent if they also get $23 especially as they are much more readily available (especially 360). I know these have been posted in the past but, well, I simply don't feel like searching for them (plus they wouldn't be current anyway).
It's in the second post: Power Rangers Super Legends.
FYI: Power Rangers: Super Legends SHOULD get $7 trade value @ the Transworld chains(Sam Goody, FYE, Second Spin, Wherehouse) for trade-in.

http://www.secondspin.com/search.jsp?page=1&type=games.title.sell&query=power+rangers

Best part about the Transworld chains is that you can get a rough estimate of potential trade values from the SecondSpin and Wherehouse websites, www.secondspin.com and www.wherehouse.com .

Personally, I really wish Gamestop would bring this function back, but that would hurt their business I'm sure.

Yeah, I made the mistake of picking up Mario Golf and lost 50 cents ($7.00 after bonus) but it was paired with a Power Tennis so all was not lost.

I went out to get an Octomania at Gamestop last night. As I was buying it, another guy was trading in his old gamecube and games. I saw a pristine Wavebird so I loitered around the store until he was done and had walked out. The Gstop employee was the nice enough to sell it to me immediately for $18 + tax. Score.

Not sure about the 360 version, but the Wii version is worth $9 per Segasonic01.

For those that didn't know. Sega Superstars Tennis (PS3) is $10.40 used after edge/10% coupon. BB Pays $23 for it. But as IO says, theres probably not many left as its been a high ticket flip for a few months.

I called my local Gamerush this morning. He said he could only look up two for me, because he was working by himself. I got three. :)

:ps3: Kane & Lynch - $30
:ps3: Sega Superstar Tennis - $23
:ps3: Blacksite Area 51 - $30

So it looks like none of these dropped today.

^ yep :D Credit or -20% for cash. I got $21 for Ass Creed (360) a few months back

I need to make another trading account at another store. all mine are becomming more suspiscious every day

For those who are new to Transworld stores (I know that IAmTheCheapestGamer is already aware of this) any game trade-ins need to be complete (art and manual) and be pristine (and in some cases match a specific UPC number). They won't take them otherwise.

Blockbuster quality seems to be about equal to Gamestop in my experience, so finding complete, near-mint games becomes really hit or miss.

For those looking for any BB -> FYE trade-ins, here is a list of possible XBOX ones. The list is a week old, though, so some prices may have changed.
BBV TIV of Octomania (Wii) - $23 :whistle2:D SAHWEEEET!
I hope your right I'm planning another Octo run before work today. Tried calling four BB's in my area for TIV and they wouldn't give them over the phone. Two said they wouldn't in person if I didn't have the game with me. Argh...

I can confirm that Octomania is still $23. I traded in two.

Got pretty lucky with stuff at BB today. I guess the Gamerush had just converted a bunch of rentals over because I found a complete Twilight Princess (GC), Contra 4 (DS), and some other good flips.
^ yep :D Credit or -20% for cash. I got $21 for Ass Creed (360) a few months back
Wrong, its the TIV shown on Secondspin.com for cash or 25% more for credit.

Thanks for posting. On my way to work stopped at BB used 10% coupon to get Octo for $9.XX and stopped at a GS and picked up another Octo used. This should take me over $100 credit at Blockbuster.

Not really a off topic question but more out of curiosity how does everybody manager their BB credit? Do you keep your credit on a gift card they can update? Do people hold their credit in the systems at each individual BB?

Getting back into gaming I have so many gift cards and credit at places I'm having a hard time keeping track of everything. Mostly I have a CAG notebook I use (deals/drops/penny guides/giftcards+credit) but it's still hard to keep track of my blockbuster credit.
BBV TIV of Octomania (Wii) - $23 :whistle2:D SAHWEEEET!
You probably have a lot of the following in your area a)hoarders, b)lurkers, c)both. And they probably dont know how to take advantage of a deal without ruining it for everyone else.

Is anyone noticing a common theme with our fellow man these days such as the "I got mine so :fuck: the next guy?"

What the hell am I supposed to do with blockbuster credit, their availability is terrible.
So you buy octomania, trade it to Blockbuster....then what?
Well you have to open a trading account at BBV then once you trade them you can buy the used games they sell and flip them to GS or you can buy the sealed new games that some may have. Like mine has God of War for the PSP and I might flip one for that, or some carry various DS games, or Soul Caliber 4. See the front page for new games that might be at BBV.

I keep all my credit on a value card so I can shop at any BB. You never know when you will run into something you want to buy. ;) Works just like a gift card. Just ask them to put the credit on a value card when processing your trade. If they screw up and leave it on your account, they can still add it on later like a gift card reload. Note that they max out at $500 each.

Then why on Earth did you click on a Blockbuster thread if your just going to bitch about it...plus alot of people are turning BBV credit into GS credit just read the thread, or even just the first post.

I agree about availablity but their trade-in prices are good and for used selection some games do have nice prices. Also at times to be able to get double your investment in returns at BB that is another draw.
What the hell am I supposed to do with blockbuster credit, their availability is terrible.
SPEND IT. There has to be something there you want to buy for 50c on the dollar. You could use the credit to rent movies, games, buy merchandise, etc. If the selection is terrible, then I guess this deal just is not for you. But for the rest of us, I guess it qualifies as a hobby to turn some credit into a lot of credit.

I am not trying to be a dick, but by the way you post, it sounds like flipping might not be cut out for you.

I seriously doubt there are any other flippers around me - it just isn't a game they ever had a lot of used stock for.

Well, a year ago I would have agreed with you, but now they have plenty of new games and are doing preorders for all the big releases. Surely there's a new game coming out that you wouldn't mind paying half for to get the day of release? Or you can build it up a bit more and get a DS or a 360/PS3/Wii. But if you think their stock is terrible now you should have seen them last year (when they carried no new systems or games). And hopefully you are talking about regular Blockbusters and not Gamerush, because they've always had a decent selection - nothing compared to Gamecrazy or Gamestop, but certainly enough to spend cheap credit on.

So far today I flipped 4 copies of Octomania and have 2 more sitting right beside me, which I'll be trading in after I check out some other games to buy at BB.

I hit the motherload at one of the BBs near me. Here's some TIV's for GS with Edge and promo.

Golden Compass> $5.60
Iridium Runners> $7.00
Mario Baseball GC> $12.60
Mario Party 4> $12.60
Mario Party 7> $15.40
Mario Party 5> $14.00
StarWars Jedi Knight Outcast GC>$14.00
Power Rangers PS2> $12.60
Starfox Assault GC>$9.80
Manhunt 2> $8.40

Just got back from BB and found an something interesting. They had one my copy of Octomania from Friday out for sale with a price tag of $14.99. So, I'm thinking that they really do drop prices on Sundays and Tuesdays now. If you've got any Octo plans for the coming week, you best finish up tomorrow and wait for a TIV on Tuesday.

It was funny...I traded in an Octomania today at a BBV, and the guy paused and said "Now this is interesting, we're actually giving you more than we charge for it" (TIV was $23). Of course, since the TIV was still listed as $23, he just laughed, called me lucky, and gave me the credit. Now what would be funny is if I bought it back with another game (for the B1G1 since I guess it would qualify) and then traded it in again.
I ran into a problem trading it in at a BB in NY (Long Island). They said they wouldn't take it.

They probably had too many copies or some idiot tried to trade in 10 copies.
