ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

So History Channel Pacific is a decent flip. 1.7x credit or something like that after using coupon and edge. (i'm not sure how they take the percentages off) not seeing anything else though...
Just Saw Fifa 07 - Which is almost a 1.9x. Well - I think i'll do a few pairs of those two games then - Not too bad.

Im not doing games ive done before (hour of victory)

That would mean they're probably selling it used for $35 (new for $40). I don't think the (universal) drop happened more than a few weeks ago; couple this with the recent drop for Overlord, and it might indicate that GR is beginning to catch on to our activity.:whistle2:k
 
I've bought and flipped almost every Madden 06, FIFA 07, Hour Of Victory, and HC:Battle Pacific in the city....i spent $109.04 after tax and have close to $200.00 in credit. Found a blockbuster that let me trade in 7 copies of Madden 06 since it only brings $6.00....but i bought them for $2.89 so its an easy double the money lol

was $19.99 used at Blockbuster. Guess TIV on that has plummeted as well.
$60 away from another Wii, not sure if I will be able to get it done tomorrow, I'd have to back track a little since going away on a cruise Sunday, tomorrow is my last shot to get it.
MIght trade WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008, used credit on it anyway. Hopefully that gets 25-30.
 
If people are looking for potential GS -> BB flips with this coupon, I suggest investigating '07 sports titles. There may be a few gems in there that net 2x credit and would probably be easy to find.
 
Went to my parents today. BB here had 3 nintendo wiis, 2 ps3s and 2 xbox 360s... plus every wii accessory. They got more sixaxis controllers but no ds3s. Appears nobody is a gamer in this town. Also picked up some shitty gamecube game for 99 cents. It was 99 cents and complete... so whatev.

Where's this awesome Blockbuster? I've been dying to get a wii for months with my blockbuster credit.

i think all blockbusters are getting the 3 next gen systems. 5 of the blockbusters in my area have all 3 systems.
 
None of the BB around here has any systems. Wish they would start getting them so I spend some of these credit and build up some more.

neither is mine which is why they told me that Nintendo didn't send enough over to U.S. so there's going to be a shortage (mmm...i smell profitng-ebay hoard-rats taking ahold of this one)
 
Anyone find anything else good to flip? Doesn't seem to be anything to great this time around for the 360 coupon.

Nintendo has told BB to hold off on pre-orders for Mario Kart. One of the local stores here has broken the 1,000 mark for pre-orders. Also according to them, they are #22 in the chain. Which means there are at least another 21,000 reserves between 21 other stores.

Southern Oklahoma. I'd pick it up with my credit for you and just ship like that, but I'd barely have enough to cover it in credit.

I don't know if I'd believe that. Doesn't mean it's not possible, but I seriously doubt there are 22 different BBV's across the US that broke the 1000 pre-order mark on Mario Kart. Most stores nationwide had problems breaking the 10 mark. I can't imagine any BBV breaking more than 500 unless they have dealers buying from them, 100's at a time (kunai?).

Hmm I wonder how GS and GC are doing on there pre-orders? I bet its just BB cutting off there preorders well early just to be on the safe side.

With that said to be safe I will also pre-order at EB using $5 down since I know they still are taking the pre-orders.

For everyone pre-occupied at the moment with finding the best flip to go with this weeks GS coupon, there is another viable option that seems to be getting ignored. What we're all forgetting is that with the coupon and the edge discount, you can more-or-less buy any game at GS for the Gamerush trade-in-value. So why not buy a game you actually want at GS, play through it, and then just trade it in to GR towards GTA IV next week (and face it: you WON'T be playing anything else once GTA IV comes out!;) ). It's not such a bad thing to satisfy the "Gamer" more than the "Cheap-Ass" sometimes...:joystick:
 
theres a whole section of clearanced games, but only one had a clearance sticker on it. Line was too long for me, but anyone have an idea of how much their marked down?

a couple of targets around here have MLB 07 The Show for PS3 for 9.98. 4.98 after $5 off coupon. trades at GR for $20 ....

what coupon gets you $5 off a $10 game? I only know of the Target one thats $5 off and $25 purchases

Any good flips that I could pick up at Walmart or Hastings? They are the only two places that sell games here besides Block Buster. I need credit for GTA4/WII

The Hastings B1G1 sale might be worthwhile. Jaws Unleashed should still be worth like $15 credit, but you might want to confirm first. Not really sure about other PS2/XB games you could get for cheap at Hastings that would trade in for a lot at BB.

B1G1 just ended. I picked up Okami and GoW2 though, so it was all good. I'll check there for a cheap jaws.

The CE of Stranglehold might still be $35 TIV, because that's how much I got a couple weeks ago. Also, I checked today, and it was $65 used at my local BB, so it could still be $35 TIV.
$19.50 to $35.00 isn't bad.
