ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
All of them. What are you looking for?
Well im doing the math right now, and it looks like there may be a way to not have to deal with stranglehold so much until the B2G1 starts if it does in fact start friday.
Probably cleaned out by Kunai.;)
lol, I've grabbed all the ones I can. I'm just looking for another instrument to get good trade value from GS to BBV.
Well, io, dreams do come true.

GS is pulling their famous B2G1 beginning on Friday (or next Friday), and let's see what we can do.

At GR get 4x MTR.
Flip that to GS for $42.
Buy 3x Stranglehold.
Flip that back to GR for $99.
Rinse and repeat.
You can make infinite credit this way (assuming your stores have enough copies of each).
Sorry, but what is MTR?

And is this contingent on the Trade-2-Get-$10 deal?

^ MTR = Meet the Robinsons. I believe those prices are contingent upon the $10 bonus, which means that most people will likely have trouble relying on MTR alone - GS doesn't usually like to take two copies of the same game at once.

I'm glad i held off on buying all the Strangleholds. $32 -> $108 is pretty damn good. I forgot that the 10% off coupon worked on up to 5 games. That should help out even more.

My Spiderwick's shipped yesterday so I should have them tomorrow. Don't forget that MGS4 comes out tomorrow! Hopefully my store will be doing a midnight release.

Ya sure u can use the 10% coupon as well as the b2g1? I thought the only thing that would stack was the edge card. Even without the coupon, flipping Stranglehold has an amazing ratio.

YMMV I guess, it does say not to be combined with other promotions, but im sure there are some employees who don't care.

You know what, though? I don't even really want to flip it back to Blockbuster. Now, sure, maybe I'll do a couple of those (like 1 set of 3 games). What else can I buy with the B2G1 sale to trade back to BB, though? I am completely lost on the Sega Tennis values these days - is that still good (and which system)? See, unlike you, I feel awkward even BUYING 3 of the same game, let alone trading them in. Most I could see myself doing is 2 Strangleholds + something else.

My "dream come true" would be the B1G1 free $14.99 and under deal at Blockbuster because that would provide me with a way to liquidate most of my Blockbuster credit to GS credit AND make a bit in the process. The B2G1 at GS is more of an annoyance to me than anything - just because I'll feel like I have to use it a bit and I'd rather not have the temptation ;).

And good luck finding MtR in quantity at BB or GR - mine had all of one copy that is already residing at a Gamestop. It is not a game they had a lot of rental stock for so chances are each store will have one converted for sale (not counting any that may have been traded in). Of course, there are plenty of other $9.99 -> $10.50 games so there ought to be plenty to choose from even if it isn't as good as MtR (360 version that is).
wait where are we getting the info that there will be a b1g1 at blockbuster? Was that ever confirmed?
No, not confirmed. Somebody a couple pages back claims to have seen some promotional materials for it while they were at their local store. Nobody who works for BB has supported that claim (yet).

I might go ahead and start transferring credit to GS anyway, because during their last B1G1, they increased the prices of some games to $16.99 so they would be excluded. I would hope they wouldn't pull that crap again, but who knows.... that would kinda kill my plan.

yeah I'm currently in the process of moving my credit too. All I really want is to buy a wii and all my blockbusters never get them in. Plus the versatility of the GS credit > BB credit. I'll probably keep ~$100 BB credit for my regular rentals.

Also, I don't know if it's been mentioned but Alien Force for the Wii is another breakeven game that you can trade in to GS.

Ben 10: Alien Force or Alien Syndrome?

Edit: you're already answered the question (Alien Syndrome), but I totally butchered that game name by combining the titles of two different ones; fixed.

If the b2g1 free at Gamestop starts this week, while the $10 promo is going on, I'm going to need a GPS system to track my route to all the stores to save on gas

Tonight alone, will dump a RSV2 and Timeshift that I got from target at a Blockbuster(will get about $6 more there than at Gamestop even with promo) then take that money and get $50 of games to take to Gamestop across the street w/ the free call of duty 2, Cars, and $2 Viva Pinata(avg price I paid for 4 of them).
Then go hit another Blockbuster on my way to work to scout flippables. Then either go to work or hit another gamestop, depending what I find.

I forgot prices, sorry, but Blockbuster has a promo sheet with all the Trade in Values of the last few years of Maddens on it, for all systems. They list their price and Gamestops. Will get a copy, might be info to use on b2g1 sale.
Anyone think of trading Earth Defense Force into Gamestop?
Yes, I just did. going by the list that is now in the OP, I bought 10 games from blockbuster for ~$124 after tax, traded them into Gamestop for $121 credit. I'd list specifics, but all the values and prices have already been mentioned previously. Pretty nice being able to move the credit to GS where its more useful, plus you don't pay tax at Gamestop if you're paying with trade-in credit (at least here in TX).

io, do not fall for djkunai's antics. Only he can do what he does. I believe you said that you have 1-2 BB in your area that you can still trade...not sure though. You do not want to ruin that, since you stated that a note was left on your trading account with another nearby BB. A steady diet of 3 different games at a time will do just fine.

I just blitz the BB/GR around here and then lay low until the next 3-4:1 trade value pops up. Monster Madness was golden. Never had an issue with my trading account yet.
wait where are we getting the info that there will be a b1g1 at blockbuster? Was that ever confirmed?
UPDATE: There is NO B1G1 on games on any paperwork for BBV stuff for this week or next. Sorry for the disappointment.

TIVs all PS3:

NCAA 2K8 - $16
Simpsons - $16
Juiced 2 - $16
FIFA Street 3 - $16
Godfather - $12
NCAA08 - $12 I think
Stranglehold - $33
io, do not fall for djkunai's antics.
I still think 3 copies of Stranglehold at 3 different GR would work (maybe 2 CE and 1 regular?).

Well it's too good to be true but thanks for the confirmation.

See you at Tampa GS tonight? Or are you going to see David Hayter at Best Buy? I'm just going to have him sign my stuff later.

I pre-ordered at the topanga store which isn't doing a midnight release.

So he is at the West Hollywood Best Buy tonight, how are you going to have him sign your stuff later?
So he is at the West Hollywood Best Buy tonight, how are you going to have him sign your stuff later?
Don't worry about it.
the stranglehold that everyone is talking about...is it only the CE or regular edition as well that gets good trade value?
Both.

I hate (okay...have a strong dislike for) Hideo Kojima for not appeasing SoCal MGS fans. San Francisco...San Fran fucking cisco.

In case you missed it, I confirmed the Target coupon still works.
Anyone think of trading Earth Defense Force into Gamestop?
I traded it in and added it to the list in the OP a few days back. It is good to go as a $9.99->$10.50 flip (but subject to price drop at any time at GS of course).

No, you've missed my updates. The notes are gone at my two closest stores (including the one 1/4 mile from my house). In addition to those stores, I have another 4 that I can trade at that are rather far-flung (so I'd need to be out there for other reasons because of gas prices). For a few months there I was just limited to the 4 far-away ones. Then again, they are all closer to the Gamestops anyway so I'll need to be up there at some point. It is no problem at all for me to dump 5 or 6 copies of 1 game at different stores at this point. But sometimes it just seems like a hassle anyway - so I'll probably just stick to 2 Strangleholds (at different stores of course).
UPDATE: There is NO B1G1 on games on any paperwork for BBV stuff for this week or next. Sorry for the disappointment.
Thanks for the update - at least now I don't have to go back and fight for a price adjustment on the ones I bought Monday. Gotta look at the bright side of these things!
I still think 3 copies of Stranglehold at 3 different GR would work (maybe 2 CE and 1 regular?).
Like I said above, no problem at all. I can do 5 or 6 if I want. But my point was more that I just don't need more Blockbuster credit. Yeah, I know, it is free money if I'm bouncing it back and forth but at some point I just need to stop ;). It is more of a time issue than anything else - my family is growing weary of the time I spend running around for games.
:360: Spider-man FoF - $12.99, gets $13.80 after bonus and EDGE at GS.
Already been reported and I added it to the OP yesterday. But thanks for playing! ;). I plan on picking up all the mint ones I traded in at various stores several weeks back. I thought after your big flipping day Monday you'd be back with a huge list of more games that qualified but I think there must not be much more than we've already discovered.

So this morning when I went to Gamestop to move some credits I got an added bonus.... The guy who did the voice and motion capture for UNCHARTED: DRAKES FORTUNE was there! And now its off to Hollywood to meet David Hayter (Solid Snake) ..... Pretty cool day for a fanboy like myself.

Also not sure if its been mentioned

But Pirates 360 gets 10.50 at gamestop after deals
And Sega Tennis has been dropped down to 26 for the wii and ps3 versions.

I love how Gamestop limits (new) purchases of Sega Superstar Tennis to "1 per household" on their web site . Yeah, sure, like they don't want to get rid of all of those. Anyway, looks like used copies of that are very hard to come by - nothing for Wii or PS3 within 30 miles of me. Lots of Stranglehold, though. The question is, even if I can get over the awkwardness of buying 3 of them at one store, will any store actually have 3 of them to buy? Stupid store locator doesn't show the "1-3" and "4+" like it used to. So what else can I use if the B2G1 happens and say I can only find 2 Strangleholds? (I was gonna ask what the 360 version of Sega Superstar Tennis gets but the closest used copy is 100 miles away ).

When I came back into town at the very end of the last B2G1 when everyone was nabbing Assassins Creed and Stranglehold, there were still probably at least ten of each at two different stores that are 1/4 mile apart.

The guy was like "you know you're buying 2 strangleholds?"

"It's for my brother" ;)

How do you check used stock per store? I can only find online stuff.... am I missing something? Thanks

Oh nevermind I think I figured it out.
How do you check used stock per store? I can only find online stuff.... am I missing something? Thanks
Search for a game on gamestop.com, and look below the price. It should have a store locator where you enter your zip code, and it'll list the three closest stores that have it for that type(new or used). If you can't find the used, they've either blocked it off so you can't see it(delisted so that it's harder to find or isn't in the online database, usually can appear in the stores though) or has no online stock but used to. If it's the latter, do a search for a generic term(Such as "Pokemon"), scroll down to the bottom, and click "show hidden games." It'll show delisted games, you can then search for the used games in stores.

Awesome thanks. I figured out the first part but that second part is great. Thanks again.

SST is only $26 for the ps3 and the wii right?

Eh $19 after tax plus the gas to go to GS and then BB isnt worth the 7 dollar profit. Theres a few of them for the wii around me.

And they dont even list any used copies of stranglehold on the site period lol. I do know that one by me still has a used copy though. I think Ill try to pick it up tomorrow.

I can see djkunai buying 8 Strangleholds.
