ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Just call BB/GR and the TIV is $19+tax for Major League 2k7. Gamestop deal of the week has it for $20 bucks you can use edge and 10% off coupon. still not worth it though maybe $7bucks profit. Good Luck out there!
Well here is how the day went. Arrived at bb this morning and purchased the PS3 80gb for 649.99. It ended up costing me roughly 300 bucks. About an hour later I received a call from a bb manager telling me my account had been suspended and to call him. I called him and he had done a thorough investigation of my trading over the last few days, but the thing that jumped out at the DM was the fact that some of the artwork on the front was printed out. That is was really fcked me over, was printing out the artwork. Anyways I was able to have my trading account unsuspended but have to make sure the artwork is original and I cant do massive dumping of games like I had been. 7 HOV, 5 Bigs, 6 Forzas etc....

What the fck can I do with this big stupid PS3 bundle that cost me 649.99 bucks? Can I return it and get cashback?
did you recieve a call because you bought your ps3? and how did they get your info? or did they wonder how you got so much credit and the guy called his DM.

Don't think you're gonna be able to get cash back. Why'd you buy it in the first place?
Ebay maybe?

If all of us people are having so much trouble with this how come it's so easy for djkunai to do twice as much of all of us with no hassle,

heck if I tried to trade that many motorstorms in my area I'd be banned for sure.
How is the PS3 packaged in the supersize box? Is it an original 80gb sony box or just some cardboard box?
The original 80 GB box is inside the supersize box (as well as the other crap that comes with it)

Whoever made the decision to stock this many Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games, and only TWO copies of Super Mario Galaxy needs to be taken behind a shed.

You get credit for your trade-ins, you would receive credit back if you returned it. eBay is your main option if you want cash.
Anyone think PS2s will drop to $99 at GR? I would definately snag one at that price. =)
I have a compusa around me closing and has 40% off PS2 systems.

Full price after tax at my blockbuster was 649.99, I only spent about 300 bucks though to get the system at the 649.99 price through massive trade-ins. I started trading on Wednesday.

What sort of value could I get for all the extra stuff via ebay? How much would the 20 week rental card fetch?

20 week card could net you over $100 if you advertise it right. (Make sure you stress the fact that it can be used for games ($8) and blu-ray rentals ($5).

Consider yourself VERY lucky that you have a DM and store manager who actually takes the time to CALL you and then reinstates your account promptly. I still have yet to hear, nearly 2 months later, WHY I can't trade at all my local stores. If they'd even give me a real fucking reason why that would at least be something.
how to turn credit into cash (1:1 ratio) YMMV?

ok a little backstory, I bought a wireless 360 controller for $50 and I found that there was a DS Lite in stock at another BBV so I decided to return the controller (sealed n all) b/c i needed some more money for the DS. So when I returned it, the manager asked how did i purchase it. I said using store credit (it doesnt matter cause i'm buying a DS from another store anyways). The manager then said did i want it in cash or on a debit card. I said umm... can i just get it on the value card. the manager said he couldnt do it, so in the end I walked out with $50 cash.

So this may be YMMV or there might be an bug where you cannot load money onto the card from a return. So I bought a DSLite about 3 days ago and I'm planning to return it later tonight and I want to see if it will work again. Will tell you guys what happens later.
Any update on this?

I've ranted about Blockbuster's rental stock situation before as well - mine is exactly the same except I think they only have ONE Mario Galaxy. It is more frustrating that they deem to stock NO copies of things like Carnival Games (duh, obvious family rental there BB jackasses!), Batallion Wars 2, and many others. Yet they had like 8 copies of Timeshift for the 360 . They also have copies of all those trash Wii games like Ninjabread Man and Billy Broomsticks, so it isn't a space/quality issue!

Had another fun experience at BB today, went and traded in Forza2/MUA and HoV for 62 or so and asked to get Devil May Cry 4 for ps3. She looks in the drawer and pulls out two copies (apparently someone pre-ordered it and never picked it up), the collectors edition and the regular and asks which one I want. I tell her the one with the cool cover (pretending to be ignorant is fun) she rings it up and its 79.99 and i ask her why it costs more then the nonfancy cover one. She doesnt know why, and I ask if its a price mistake because I would really rather have the one with the nice cover. She smiles and says yeah thats prolly the case, so she scans the regular edition when I check out. All in all collectors edition DMC4 for roughly 28 bucks. I'm really liking BB these days.

Also I saw the Alvin and the Chipmunks i traded in last week for 24.99, funny cuz I got 30 for it.

right now i'm at 300$, I wonder if bb will be getting the new ps3's 120gig ones when they come out..... all the stores here have 80 gigs for 599 bundled.... and I really don't want all that junk
then they have 40 gig's and that isn't backwards compatible so thats bad

I never went out of my way, if I was out for class or groceries I would stop at GS/BB since I have 4 GS and 4 BB within spitting distance. If you want to get picky about it, the drive to the store with the 60 gig took an hour round trip, considering the opportunity cost as well as gas id say it was about a 15 dollar trip (I drive a hybrid camry)...bumping the total to 158 still pretty good for a 60gig PS3.

yea thats the worse part of kunai is the gas..... and dealing with the BB employees

Traded:

Assassin's Creed (xbox360): $35
(They even commended me on how the discs I trade-in are always in good condition! :applause::bouncy:)

They had about 4-5 new copies in of Lost Odyssey. (Came in sometime between 1:30-2:30 pm)

I also noticed a small, inconspicious little sign referring to a "clearance sale" on games, dvds, etc. (might have even been a little picture of Mario on it too...), but I didn't really see any kind of obvious clearance section for these things. I do think I noticed a table full of that Rock Band\Guitar Hero 3 stuff that everyone is always going on about, though...

(edit: if anyone was curious about how Lost Odyssey is packaged, then note the following: the case features an extra-long "peg" (labeled with a #3) upon which discs 1-3 are placed. Disc 4 is enclosed in the standard paper\celophane slipcover you used to see pc discs in back when they used cardboard boxes, and somehow packed into the same compartment as the manual the first time you open it- but after removal and return of the disc and\or manual from said compartment , the case has a little trouble closing all the way...)

I am wondering if I should auction off all the extra stuff:

motorstorm
bluray remote
surfs up
20 week rental card
HDMI cord

Has anyone done this yet and how much did all of that make you?

what was the point of getting a ps3 if your plan was to just to sell the stuff.....
what was the point of getting a ps3 if your plan was to just to sell the stuff.....
All the regular BBs just sell the crappy bundles. So if you dont have a Gamerush near you, you're forced to buy the bundle.
what was the point of getting a ps3 if your plan was to just to sell the stuff.....
The point was to get a PS3, he is just trying to get rid of the extra stuff not the system itself. Not everyone has a gamerush nearby so its either the 80gig package, or no ps3 at all. I agree with 150 as well.
what was the point of getting a ps3 if your plan was to just to sell the stuff.....
So he can convert credit to cash? My blockbuster doesn't sell many games, but does sell PS3's. Don't know why that's the only thing they sell.
When are they dew?
When they arrive in the morning, just before the first break of sunlight.

Thanks for everyones input about value on the extra stuff. I am gonna list the blockbuster card on ebay at a BIN with Best Offer and see what sort of offers I get for it. That will make it or break it for me. If I can pull between 100-130 for it then I will definitely open the box. If not, then I dont know what I will do.

Hopefully

20 Week Card -100
Surfs Up - 20
Motorstorm - 30
Bluray Remote - Might be useful (Net 15-25)
HDMI Cable - Very Low Resale Value..

Total would be between 160-185 bringing total cost on the PS3 80gb to between $119 and $150, depending on what value I get. Hopefully I can make this happen.. Hell of a deal for a brand new PS3 that I dont even want... I love 360 way more...

Thats funny because I sent it in today. It got red ring yesterday... First red ring since I bought the thing. Anyways...

What do yall think?

1) Buy It Now listing at way above retail say 725-750 (Only 50 above after tax and stuff) with Best Offer thrown in their.

2) Start listing at 99 cents and have incentives to bid item up to certain points, free DVD at 500, free bluray remote at 550, etc....

3) Keep the PS3 and sell everything else?

4) Sell everything individually

5) Fill in the blank

The HDMI cable it comes with is a cheap ass piece of shite!

Just wanted to confirm that they did have Lost Odyssey for sale at Blockbuster. I didn't buy it because they had it to rent, and since I'm such a schtickler about what I spend my money on (and since my brother is buying it at home), I'll just keep renting it until I beat it instead. Might take like a year. lol

Hey guys. I got some clearance games at Toys'r'Us today that I got some good flips for and haven't seen any of these games mentioned in this thread so you might want to check toys'rus.

Need For Speed Carbon PS3 - $26 (Paid 9.90)
Fast & The Furious PSP -$15 (Paid $9.90)
Killzone PSP -$12.50 (Paid $9.90)
Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires 360 -$19.00 (Paid 5.00!!!)
Surf's Up 360 - $8 (paid 9.90 whoops!!, kept it to Ebay instead)

I got 8 copies of Dynasty Warriors 5, and 3 Need for Speeds so that gonna be some sweet credit.

I also traded Pa Rappa the Rapper for PSP for $10, But I already had that from before.

Also I need a tip, I had a Tony Hawk Proving ground Limited Edition from Target and they wouldn't take it because it wouldn't scan. I asked him if he could just trade it as regular edition and he said no. I remember reading something about this in the last thread how did you guys get around that? Thanks!!

Either print the regular cover art from The Cover Project/CD Covers, or trade it in without (use the instructions as the cover art). I've gotta do the same - the kid at BB told me I should take it to GameStop too because they give better values than BB. Wow.
