ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

Managed to find the right stores today:

Super Monkey Ball 2 (GC); Guilty Pleasure;) ($9.99)
Conker Live & Reloaded (XBox); 'Nuff Said:cool: ($9.99, Free)
Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (Wii); Probably Mismarked:whistle2:# ($9.99)
Spider-Man 3 (Wii); Probably Mismarked Part II:whistle2:# ($9.99, Free)
Metroid Prime 2 (GC); Surprise Find:bouncy:($9.99)
Earth Defense Force (360); Trade Fodder:360: ($9.99)

Anyone know the TIVs for POTC:3 and Spider-Man 3 for Wii? They were both marked $9.99 but rang up for $19.99 and $16.99 respectively. The CSR had to adjust the prices in order to account for the sale. Most everything except for Metroid Prime 2 and EDF were disc only (much to my chagrin), but I couldn't pass up both Wii games for $9.99 (trade fodder, hoping for a trade two get a new game for $10 at EB/GS) and Conker for those prices. Now I just have to find covers and instruction booklets for Conker and Super Monkey Ball 2.

Well, I had a nice run tonight. The primary destination was a couple of Circuit Citys which turned out to be a bust, but I got some trades and Target purchasing done.

The first stop didn't go so well as the Target cashier refused to use the $5 coupon on 2 clearance games. These were NHL 2K8 for the PS3 which they had a ton of. They were $14.98. Is this the one that trades for $30+ or was that an MLB game? If so I can try going back there later this weekend.

Then I went to a Gamecrazy that is good with the price matching of Blockbuster trade-in values. Not only do they match, but they add the 10% for MVP, which is unusual. So I got $24.20 each for Avatar TBE and Bee Movie game there. Good news on Top Spin 2 - I didn't even have to price match because their regular value is actually higher than Blockbusters. With MVP I got $7.08 for it (which is an odd price making me think it is actually more at other GC's but was reduced there due to inventory).

Then I hit up another Target and bought another set of Avatar and Bee Movie game (no probs with coupon this time). Then I went to a good Blockbuster and traded those in and picked up 2 copies of Top Spin 2. They aren't in the greatest condition - too bad the one I traded just before was mint. But hopefully another GC will take them. This BB also has a ton of new games - stuff I hadn't seen elsewhere like Sega Superstar Tennis for the Wii and Viking for 360/PS3 (will add to the OP).

Anyway, that was it - not too much but at least I got a few things accomplished and built my GC credit up by $55 using 2 Target games and a $4.99 Blockbuster game and also built my Blockbuster credit up by $34 with 2 more Top Spins to take to GC for another $14 there hopefully. And I also got cat litter and other stuff I needed ;).

i got a question, if you buy a new game from blockbuster with your credit can you return it w/receipt for your credit back or do they no accept returns? Reason im asking is i bought Bully & dude back out of a trade...

I would think they'd accept the return w/ receipt if the game is still unopened but I've never had to take any new games back to BB before.

Yeah, I've returned an unopened, new game to Blockbuster before. It was a credit card transaction, but I assume the policy wouldn't be any different for store credit.

Yesterday at two different stores I picked up:

Call of Duty 2 (360) $14.99
Pikmin 2 $14.99 (free)

Katamari Damacy $14.99
LocoRoco $14.99 (free)

If you're talking about the BB TIV for NHL 2K8 I think it was around $25 when I traded it in a couple weeks ago.

They will give you back your credit in full but just make sure they put it back in your value card. Some guy returned it to my account when I made a return, which blew and I had to get a gift card to get it out. Also about 6 months ago I had a situation where they gave me back money when I returned something I bought credit with. This is YMMV and they might have changed that policy a while ago.

I just got back from Blockbuster. I got
Xbox 360 MLB 2K7 $2.99
Gamcube Viewtiful Joe Free ($2.99)
So when I went to the counter to buy the games the lady rang them up and told me they mislabeled MLB 2K6 2.99 instead of 9.99, but she gave it to me for 2.99. So I walk out of the store and check the case for MLB. Instead of the 2K6 disc, she gave me 2K7. So I go back in the store and tell her she gave me the wrong game. She checks the drawer and never finds the game; she asks me if I want a refund. I ask if I can have 2K7 for that price and she got the case and manual for 2K7 and gave it to me! The game sells for $25. I was so happy!
with this deal can I get
Pikmin 2 and get pikmin free

If your BB/GR is doing the promotion , if they are 14.99 and less ( at most places it is), and you can find all of them then YES.

thanks.

I hit two more Blockbusters and found a few more games:

First store:
Bard's Tale (PS2, complete) - free
Juiced (XB, complete) - $6.99
Outrun 2006 - Coast 2 Coast (XB, complete) - $6.99
Tecmo Arcade Classics (XB, complete) - free
World Championship Pool 2004 (PS2, no manual) - $6.99
Xyanide (XB, complete) - free

Second store:
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (XB, complete) - $9.99
Tony Hawk's Project 8 (XB, complete but PS2 manual) - free

I'm going back to the second store to see if they have a manual for the Xbox version of THP8.

Does anybody have a manual for World Championship Pool 2004? Please?

Does Gears of War still trade in for $28.50? The wiki says so, but it was lasted updated in December.

If it does, I might trade in my free copy from imagine cup.

Local GR had a free 5" x 7" framed art for free when you pre-order GTA4. You get it when you pick up the game. Don't know if any other stores are doing this as well.

wow i never heard of that. that def sounds like a special for that store.

AV and Ragekod left me a nice surprise at Topanga- Shadow Hearts FTNW for $9.99 (paired it with a Kameo).

My garage sale is going slow- all the good stuff is priced right- right above these buyers heads. Nobody wants Kameo for $6...

Finding all four of those games inside of one BB/GR would be a jackpot. Although, I think you can find a better game to use the B1G1 instead of Metroid Prime though. You can find Metroid at any GS/EB for about $5.99 (and there's a twenty-five percent off coupon currently!).

My BB is doing the same thing. The only problem is that I now have pre-orders at two different stores, and unless they stock the SE version of GTAIV, I might have to axe plans for the art.

I got:
Stuntman: Ignition (360) (priced at 14.99, but rang up as 19.99. Got it overridden)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (360, 14.99)

I don't really want Rayman. I'll probably play it real brief for any easy achievements, then trade it away or something.

In case you guys are wondering, it trades for $25.00. I was going to create a trade in account and trade it in (and then get Bully for half price) but you have to be 18 (I'm only 17). I did pick up Panzer Dragoon and The Chronicles of Riddick for $5.00 ($5.00 apiece with BOGO).

Where could i possibly find this 25% off coupon?

Picked up:
$4.99 :xbox:Intellivision Lives! (man Utopia is a great game)
$4.99 :xbox:Malice (I remember wanting this game back when it came out)

The selection was pretty slim, and nothing for Wii or PS3 was $14.99 or under.

I checked out my local BB. Didn't realize it was only for $14.99 and under games since the sign didn't really indicate it and they had the posters plastered everywhere, especially on the racks with the high priced games. Dumb.
Not sure if anybody else posted this yet, but the sale ends Monday.
As in Monday is the last day, or that after Sunday it ceases to be? I'd like to check out the BB by work....

You can do a quick search to find your answer. It was posted a couple of pages ago. But if you are to lazy the trade in value is 36.

Found like 2 or 3 games that caught my eye but I easily waited out, tried to reserve GTA4 since Id rather just get it down the street from me but I wasnt in the system...thought it was a bit weird since I havent used a membership card in months. Can I just get one printed at my usual BB tomorow?

Oh, and can someone clear up if all BBs take trade ins now for me. Thanks.

Picked up Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Perfect Dark Zero. I mainly did it for Dreamfall and plan to trade in PDZ to GameStop since I hear that the achievements for PDZ are very difficult.
Picked up Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Perfect Dark Zero. I mainly did it for Dreamfall and plan to trade in PDZ to GameStop since I hear that the achievements for PDZ are very difficult.
i think perfect dark trades in for 2 bucks, tops. does this b1g1 really end tomorrow the 31st? i talked to a bunch of employees today and they expected it to run a lot longer.

Just checked the CAG wiki and it suggested $2.50. I might wait with it until GS has one of those trade-in 3, get an extra bonus offers again. I'd try to sell it on ebay, but there doesn't seem to be much of an improvement in price.

The store I was at indicated that the B1G1 sale was to be over tomorrow. Then again, they may have been doing that to drum up sales. The store I was at didn't have that many games left, maybe 70 total, and most were PS2 and Xbox games.

Trade in values (both PS2):

Shadow of the Colossus - $6
Odin Sphere - $16

Didn't trade these in, just called today out of curiosity.

Pikmin-$10
Chromehounds-free
Firefighter FD18-$10
Prey-free

Prey & Chromehounds are gonna be traded back later for $12, making Pikmin & Firefighter only $9 after tax :D
