ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

Ok.. I called several BB in my area and this is what I got on for TIV:

XBOX 360-

Blacksite Area 52 = $19
Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 = $8

Guitar Hero III = $24
Simpsons Hit & Run = $6
Lego Star Wars = $6
Sopranos = $2.50

Game Cube
Pokeman XD = $12
MarioKart Double Dash = $9.50
Super Mario Sunshine = $6
Super Mario Melee = $13.50
Star Was Jedi Outcast = $9.50

There were other but below 2.50... which sucks.

Hmmm...well the BBV seems to really be getting into video games and such, so while they might not have a game on release day, they usually get it that week. Recently they have gotten the big releases on release day.

I think flipping to BBV and then flipping back to GS might be too much effort for me. :)
everyone does move their credit from BBV to GS because GS gets more stuff and gets it on release date

Answered your question with all your words :D

Basically, yes. Unless you have a Gamerush near you, the selection is very slim at BBV. GS gets more games, some exclusives, some collector's editions ,and some Used game deals every now and then that make it worth shopping there.

Yeah I'm assuming that Gamestop will always have more games available in comparison as well as systems, limited edition games, controllers, accessories, etc.

I'd really like to trade in with BBV but it doesn't seem that any of them around me do so. Maybe I'll have to save up some games and take with me on my next trip out of state. Seems an awfully silly thing though to have to drive out of state to save a few dollars on TIV :) Stupid BBV =P
Back from an adventure at Gamestop. Initailly only gave me the $10 bonus on two games. 6 other games got no bonus. Told him that I want the other six back. Had to void the whole transaction and ring them up 2 at time.
He was willing to do this I guess because I got the Xbox 9.2" monitor for $119.

At that store and one other down the street grabbed all for PS3: Stranglehold, Viking, Condemned 2 and Sega Tennis.
Those will go to BB tonight, $72 up to about $135. Will be double dipping a Stranglehold, but it's worth it.
All this credit flipping it's tough to keep track of how much any of this really cost.
Errr is that a dig at me or? E and P are pretty far away on the keyboard haha.
LOL, I'm so sorry. That's how I read your name, so that's how I typed it.
It's will be well worth the effort when a b2g1 free sale starts at Gamestop. Having the credit sitting there waiting for the next big flip is a huge advantage.
It's also been fun actually picking through the used games at Blockbusters for ones to buy and bring back to Gamestop.

Agreed. I think the hunt's kinda fun.
Agreed. I think the hunt's kinda fun.
I giggled like a school girl when I found 5 copies of MTR 360 at one BB. Tons of fun.

Can't find the GS/EB trade in wiki thread, so I'm going to add these here... sorry:

6/13 (all prices before coupons/Edge)
:wii:Super Mario Galaxy - $22
:wii:Super Smash Bros - $30
:wii:DBZ:BT2 - $6
:ps2:Guitar Hero (game only) - $12

Luckily I had a 50% coupon and an Edge card!
Well I'm back to flipping today after spending 12pm- 3am yesterday starting, playing, and beating Metal Gear Solid 4.

Like Big boss said about noodles in MGS3, "That's damn good."
Damn, now that's dedication.

My edit didn't go through (stupid SBC internet). I'm back to business today, though I wish there was a better coupon.

Now that sounds like the djkunai we all love. :)
lamelitersniper, that is a horrible return. you have to be aiming for at least double your money.
Lol then dont use it? Did I say it was spectacular? No...infact I said it wasnt much but it WAS a positive return. All be it only $6 but its still over 100% ROI.

Not everyone can by 30 strangleholds and trade them to the same idiot BBV employee. Im just giving people more options to build up credit.

At what point does the Blockbuster/Gamerush Thread II start?

a few TIVs from today:

360:
Tiger Woods 07 : 12
Winning Eleven PES 2007: 8

PS3:
Tiger Woods 07 PS3: 16
NBA 2k7: $6
NHL 2k7: 9
Stranglehold: $33 STILL

Cheers

After i beat stranglehold in one day.. i traded my second copy in today $33. I went to another BB and got mtr(360) disc only with no manual or case(got blockbuster standard case). Traded that into GS with no problems along with other games.
I giggled like a school girl when I found 5 copies of MTR 360 at one BB. Tons of fun.
Man, I couldn't find any of those yesterday . I want to make another run but my family will kill me if I ditch them for 3 hours Friday night after doing that yesterday. I think I have to build furniture or something. I guess I can go out Saturday. I want to hit up the heavily-trafficked BB to see what they have.
Can't find the GS/EB trade in wiki thread, so I'm going to add these here... sorry:

There is no EB/GS wiki thread but it would have been better to post these to the $10 extra thread - I'll add the prices into the OP of that thread for you.
so what does that have to do with bb/gr?
Hey, I think it is big news that djkunai is actually playing a game instead of just profiting off of them. That's the first post of his I've ever seen where he mentions playing something ;).
At what point does the Blockbuster/Gamerush Thread II start?
Whenever I damn well fell like it (and I don't right now - maybe this weekend). And it wouldn't be II, it would be like 12 or something.

I think 6+bonus for Meet the Robinsons. I'm about to trade in my wii version.

Are there any other good GS to BBV flips? I think my area is cleaned out of used copies of Stranglehold PS3.

Man, one store I went to had 4 copies of MTR. Snatched those up like crazy. I left a lot of other stuff, my BB credit is running a little low for the time being.

I hate the store here on Anderson, dumb fucks never know how to do trades. The store manager first says "we dont do trades", then after i pointed out the big red "TRADE IT IN" sign, after that he said "we dont do trades on weekdays". I asked when it would be convienent for me to come in. He said "well, lets see if I can do it now". He then says I can only trade one game at a time. I just replied 'whatever you say'. He tried to add on credit using the wrong barcode on the Value card, and was about to throw it out before I told him it already had $40 on it. He tried it again and it worked. He crumbled up my receipt and handed me the store's copy that I was supposed to sign and told me to have a good day (in a pretty sarcastic tone). I took it and walked away, I doubt loss prevention will care about a missing receipt for $30 credit, but those people there are idiots, so i didnt feel like correcting him.

This was after yesterday where at the same store, they didn't take out the locks on the games after I bought them, and they also gave me back the movie that I was returning. I got another store to take off the locks, and i'm now the owner of a free copy of the Orphanage on Blu-ray.

But, the day got better and I turned $120 BB into around $125 GS. I'll be hitting another two Gamerushes tomorrow, so hopefully I can churn up some more "conversion fodder". A girl at GS may or may not have confirmed that next week there will be a B2G1. She asked if I wanted to pre-order anything, and I told her I was holding my credit as I heard there may be a B2G1 next week. She said something alonge the lines of "ive been hearing that a lot lately". As I was leaving the store, she said "See you next week". Heres hoping the rumors are true as I saw plenty of Sega Superstars Tennis & Strangleholds to flip.
How much does GS/EB give for Meet the Robinsons (that is MTR right?)
It's posted Page #1

It's actually the best flip from GR -> GS

I've also figured out why Kunai beat the game so fast, he's going to return it for a full refund swearing he never played it.
I've also figured out why Kunai beat the game so fast, he's going to return it for a full refund swearing he never played it.
Nah, not if it was a new copy. He probably only has a limited amount of time to take out of his busy flipping schedule to play! :applause:

Are there any other good GS to BBV flips? I think my area is cleaned out of used copies of Stranglehold PS3.
I'd also like to know this. Although there are still a couple copies of Stranglehold around I'd rather not take three up to the counter and try and explain that. Two I can do since my cousin and I love to play online together ;) but I haven't come up with a good story for three yet.
You don't have to explain your purchases to GS. They are not going to turn away a sale.
yea, like IO and others have said earlier, even in my brief experience with the two companies, GS has been much easier to work with than GR.

I guess the issue really becomes how many different GRs I need to hit up in order to trade them in and dealing with new people at each one.

Has anyone figured out what to use Blockbuster gift/value cards on if there are no games there? (and you don't want to buy any DVDs?)

I am having too much fun flipping to BBV but now I have $300 in credit I don't know what to do with.

The worse scenario is you can buy and sell a wii and cash almost all the credit.

I wish BBV would start selling gift cards to OTHER places. That would be sweet.

Some stores do sell Amazon gift cards. If we're lucky, maybe soon they'll be selling Circuit City gift cards, or BB value cards will work at CC.

Did my runs today and there were no TIV drops... and no restrictions on how many bonuses you can get. I traded in 14 games total today.

Some things I can confirm (sorry if they've been answered already)
MTR for the Wii DOES get 11.60.
Virtua Fighter 5 for PS3 gets 13.80.

BB TIVs from today on trades:
360 Rapala Tournament Fishing 15! This is 5 at KMart
360 MotoGP 07 8
360 Fifa 07 19
PS3 March Madness 08 26

Called and got quotes for:
PS3 Orange Box 23
PS3 Madden 07 6
360 Burnout Revenge 12

Was disappointed that GR offered the same as GS for MotoGP07, but I thought the game was more recent that August of last year. I think Rapala and MotoGP 07 are new quotes for the wiki and OB, Madden, and BR are new drops.

What is the special that BB is offering with trade-ins? I know if you trade in 2 next gen games to GS, you get an extra 10 bucks TIV. Please give me the low down. It's also hard to determine the best flips. How much is Stranglehold at GS anyway? I'm sorry if I appear to have too many questions. :)
I think me means MtR. He also means Virtua Fighter 5 ;).
Ack, yes. I must be tired. Post changed.

Woot, my first successful flip today (though not without some problems)! Details are below, but basically I spent $17.55 (after Edge Card + tax) for a Used copy of Stranglehold PS3 (CE), which fortunately was in GREAT condition and came with the original box, and manual, and ended the day with 1 copy of Meet The Robinsons for XBOX 360, 1 copy of Beautiful Katamari for XBOX 360, another copy of Meet The Robinsons, this time for Wii, two of which I plan to trade back to Gamestop tomorrow and $6.53 leftover in BBV Store Credit :D.

The day didn't start too well as I went to a nearby GameStop that said it had a copy of Stranglehold, but unfortunately it was missing the manual, and had a generic GS casing (although the disc was brand new). That GameStop also said they weren't doing the $10 bonus TIV for 2 next-gen games anymore. Fearing I wouldn't be able to trade it in to BBV, I declined, and since I was late hanging out with friends I hurried to take the bus to meet up with them. Luckily another GS is along the route, so I stopped there and lo and behold, there was a PRISTINE copy of Stranglehold Collector's Edition for the PS3, complete with disc, manual, and original cover art! I picked it up for $17.55 and headed out to hang out with my friends, removing the front and back "USED" stickers while riding the subway.

After I got back, close to 9 PM, I hurried to my nearest BlockBuster and asked if they accept trade-ins. The guy at the register told me they do, but only during the morning and afternoon, 10AM-5PM, because the manager "wanted to do it himself because sometimes there were... problems." I wondered what this meant and decided to hit up another BBV.

So I drove to another BBV and actually talked with the manager THERE, and SHE was the one who opened up a BlockBuster Card for me, AND traded in the game for me, at the value in this thread ($33 + tax, totalling $35.76 for NYC tax). It's funny because when I asked about trading in a game she said "Well, you're probably not going to get much, only a few dollars..." and when she rang up the game she was very surprised and said "Wow, that seems almost too much."

Then she said she would put the amount into my account, but she said that would only work at the store I traded it in, so I asked if she could put it on a gift card or value card. After a number of tries and rejections (she said the max amount the computer would let her put on the card was $20, so it kept rejecting her), she managed to get the balance on a BB "Value Card".

So, with my credit now safely stored in my card, I looked around at their used games section, and what do I find? Beautiful Katamari, and two copies of Meet The Robinsons, one for the XBOX 360 and one for the Wii! The Katamari was missing a manual, but both the MTR's were complete, and one of them even has the registration card that comes with it!) They were tucked behind some other titles, so I was wondering if a fellow CAGer hid them there to trade them in some other day. Well, too bad for him because I ended up taking the games instead.

The games were marked up as $24.99, $14.99, and $14.99 respectively, but I knew not to be fazed (thanks to this thread :)) and asked her to check the prices. She did, and was really surprised when she found out that they rang up for $9.99, $6.99, and $9.99! I said I'd take them all, and that came out to be $29.23 ($26.97 plus $2.26 tax). She then yelled at one of the employees and told him that none of the prices for the games were changed (and I thought in my head how that may be due to the laziness or lack of organization of BBV workers...). And then she realized after she removed the security covers that the discs weren't in the cases, and took another 10 minutes looking for them in the locked display cases.

So overall, although there were a few bumps here and there, I have successfully introduced myself to the world of flipping, and I look forward to continue doing it (morally, of course).

My goal is to go to another GS tomorrow and trade in the Beautiful Katamari and MTR for the 360 and get another copy of Stranglehold... and hopefully hit up the first BBV and trade that in. SST and Stranglehold copies seem to be in very low stock in my area, and only the really far away stores have them, so I suspect there are a lot of CAGers in Queens, NY.

I have a few questions for those who did not want to read this whole thing, and I was wondering if some people can answer them for me:

1. Is it true that you cannot return USED games you bought from BBV?
2. Why did the woman say there was a $20 max limit on the value card/gift card she first tried to put it on? I thought people were saying it was $500.
3. Is the GS $10 extra credit for 2 next-gen games YMMV? I looked on the website and saw it listed there, and printed it out to confirm it next time someone denies it, but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem.
4. I'm taking off the stickers on the BBV games right now, and some of the discs have BBV stickers on them. Do they usually do that?
5. Any other tips for me/comments on my story? Sorry it's so long but this is my first time so I wanted to lay everything out in detail.

Right now I'm pretty excited though and looking forward to tomorrow!

Thanks CAG, and thanks everyone else! :D :D :D

1. Yup. As far as I know, this is the case. You can exchange it for an item of equal value.
2. There shouldn't really be a limit on a Blockbuster gift card and certainly not as low as $20. That's just ridiculous. $500 sounds reasonable, though.
3. I've had no one deny it, but I have had cashiers/managers who didn't understand it. Just have them ring it up anyway. Good thing is, the computer does all the work, regardless of the incompetence of employees.
4. Some BBVs do put the stickers on the discs. This seems to be discouraged through most BBVs too, as I was talking with one employee about it.
5. Just get all your flipping done by next week, I'd say. I'm surprised BBV hasn't lowered the price of Strangehold further and I anticipate that's what's going to happen next week. Frankly, I'm surprised it didn't happen last week (although overjoyed as well). And I know it did drop $3, but I was expecting much much more.

1.I asked that same question today and she told me a 30-day money back gurantee to return to BB.
2.I also got a value card today for stranglehold for $33 in front of the lady who i traded in that same game yesterday lol (she didnt ring me up she was looking from behind). It was awkward moment as other employee was friendly at first then looked at my account and she had to seen that game traded in yesterday. So the tone in her voice changed. She asked for my driver's license for the value card for some reason (donno if thats normal?)
3.It works everywhere. Although at one some lady was talking to me about signing up for an edge card which i refused. After the convo i asked about the $10 extra promo and she said it was only for edge members... go figure.
4.Never opened the case to notice stickers on the actual disc.

...? what's with the hate, monkeydeew? It's true I also have accounts on SlickDeals/FatWallet, but I've never been one of those people who take deals from this website and put it on those. In fact, if you even LOOK at my SD posts (I never post on FatWallet - I don't really like their interface), the only "deal" I ever posted was for free piano sheet music that I got from Facebook.

So what's with the attitude?
