The CAGwiki is here! Become an Editor!

Same with AN and botticus, if you find yourself thinking, 'Hey there should be a page for...' get an account and create it :)
That sounds like peer pressure :whistle2:( Any need for past wiki experience, or is it pretty easy to pick up?
You should get setup with an account and go for it. Pages for the various projects are a natural fit. We could set up a 'Projects' category and have the various articles in the cat.

UGamer - So there is just no Edit tab on that page, but you see it on other pages that exist? Very strange. The only other page that exists right now is http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/USPS_shipping_label_guide Check it and see if it has an edit tab for you.
There's an edit button on the acronym page, but it's for the external links part only. Same thing for the shipping guide page, I can edit everything on that page except for the initial paragraph.

Edit: Ok I figured it out now...please excuse my idiocy.

The edit tab was hiding from you, eh?

Hey Ugamer and evilmax are doing it. You know, all the cool kids.

It's pretty easy, you basically just type normally and picking up a few wiki formatting bits will get you through 98% of what you need to do. I barely know more than the bare minimum stuff myself.

For example

==Section name==
Section contents
===Subsection name===
Sub section contents

''italics''
[[link to another wiki page]] so [
] or [[Pagename|Link text]]

*Unordered list item
*Item 2

#Numbered list item
#Numbered item 2
acronym section is missing NSFW, OTT

don't know if anyone mentioned this
OTT should be added, I forgot it...But I don't know about NSFW just because it's such a general internet acronym. Maybe we should split the acronyms into Deal/Store Acronyms and Discussion Acronyms (NSFW, IMO, BTW).

I was thinking the same thing myself. Deal acronyms and Other acronyms.

At this point it could just be two sections on that single page, as I don't think we'll have so many that it would get unwieldly.

BTW, this sort of thing is best handled on the article's Talk page. http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/Talk:List_of_acronyms

You guys have a lot of great ideas....I am fired up.

I've setup accounts for everyone who PMed me as of right now.
Some people seem to never receive the account email. Check your spam folders! If you still have problems...let me know (via PM)

Threw in your acronyms for you (NSFW gets used enough here that it seemed important to add) and started an article for YMMV. Some family issues have come up, so I'm busy for now but I'll definitely be able to commit some more time this Monday evening onward to take some of the workload off the other wiki users, so keep the suggestions coming!

Got a good start on the trade-in articles. I will hopefully finish the GR one, and at least create the GC/EB/BB lists tomorrow.

Wow, everytime I check the CAGwiki, there is more great content.
This is going to kick ass!

EDIT: I can't wait for this week so I can work on it.

I'd really like to go with the capping standard used on Wikipedia, Wiktionary, etc. Only cap the first word of titles and section headers, excepting proper nouns of course.

Unless someone feels strongly otherwise I plan to rename sections and pages to conform to that standard.

"Capitalize the first letter only of the first word and of any proper nouns in a heading, and leave all of the other letters in lowercase."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Headings

Good stuff coming up, glad to see active editors :)

That's a good idea. I didn't even realize there was a capping standard. I think we should stick to the Wikipedia standards as closely as possible.

I was thinking we could also have a category with pages for notable/infamous CAG users (past and present). These are people that are/were talked about often by other forum members. Examples include DragonLordFrodo, DenisDFat, MightySlacker (known for Olson'ing people), ChrisXE, etc. It might be hard to decide who merits inclusion and who doesn't, though.
How about adding the current CC clearance list because it's huge and still active.
Huge is actually a bad reason to add it unless you'd like to reformat every item on the list ;) Possibly useful if the prices are still dropping, but at this point it seems like it'd be a bit too much effort.

That's the kind of thing I'm looking at though, once I get the trade in articles done. CC, K-Mart, Target clearance threads.

Just made a Wiki for Return Policies ("List of store return policies").

All of those stores' policies are completely up-to-date. I based the Wiki on my Return Policies thread, which has since fallen somewhat out of date.

Feel free to make any corrections and add more stores, as I'm sure I missed some! It'll be much easier now to keep those policies updated. :)

There should be a "Deal/Sale Hall of Fame" or something.

Adding like the CC $5 games, Classic plastic 3 for $15, and all the others.

They could probably both have a place in the wiki. A few of the Trading guide sections could be broken out into their own pages.
Greatest Hits, Platinum Hits, Collector's Choice game lists seem like natural fits for the wiki. These are lists that we have stickied in the forums, but need routine updates from either the OP or a moderator. If we had the lists centralized, so more people could update them regularly, I think it would benefit everyone.
I did most of the work for the Platinum Hits list on Wikipedia. I can write it up for the CAGwiki too.

Hook me up with an account and I'll get to work.

Would it be possible to eventually tie CAGwiki priviledges to the rank on the message boards? For example, only CAGiversary!-ranked CAGs can edit the wiki without special permission from the mods.

i could do a bunch of information on the cag cover projects, especially for the dreamcast and its struggle.

Shrike, Wombat, WhipSmartBanky specifically need mention, as between the Cagcomic, Cagcast, and trading forums, their names are all over the site.
Neko Hime, Javeryh, epobirs, benboxer and many, many more other users deserve inclusion as well.

Infamy, I think, should probably be reserved for those earning a ban, otherwise the maintaince of it becomes unweildly and likely biased.

I'd actually prefer noting the infamous CAGs rather than writing about the well-known active CAGs. There seems to be no reason to mention someone specifically because it would be unfair to most other users and writing about someone would likely lead to very biased pieces. Exceptions can definitely be made in certain cases, like Shrike catching that thief who selling stuff on CAG. But other than that, writing about CAGs would just be like a giant pat on the back to ourselves.

I think a great deal of that would depend on how you determine "infamous".
The only safe way really seems like it would be those who have been banned.
I guess special exemptions could be used for the limited number of people who have been banned and reinstated, but any other method of selection seems like it would just beg to be exploited for personal vendettas or grudges.

Yeah, by infamous, I pretty much meant banned. The only exception to that would be DLF.

It's rather silly to mention active CAGs anyway... if they're active, people will see them. Sure, they might not get some of the little anecdotal inside jokes, but oh well. The banned or long gone users are the ones that can be safely written about because, well... who cares?

Would it be possible to add image uploading to the wiki? I can think of a lot of articles that could benefit from a picture.

Edit: I see that linking to external images is supported so this probably isn't necessary.

Call the section the CAG Graveyard (completely with a Banky Drawing of a headstone with cheapy's head on it) and make it "a place to remember some of the most famous (and infamous) members of the CAG community who have now left us... or we kicked them out"

What are your thoughts on having specific entries for all of the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi games, in which we could list all CAGs' known friend codes (and users could edit the wiki themselves to include their own friend codes).

Possibly the same deal for Xbox GTs.

Not sure about it myself, but just throwing it out there.

I think it's a good idea. I've been trying to figure out the best way to organize the GT thread in the Xbox forum for a while. A wiki entry with GTs/friend codes listed by game would be a nice addition.

Yep, that's one I was thinking of before we had a wiki, but I had forgotten. Great idea.
Can we get a sticky for this thread? More editors = better wiki.
Done. I've just done a little editing and minor additions so far, but I'm hoping to contribute some more guide/reference material soon.

Bump.

We need more editors! If you would like to be an editor but don't know anything about how to do it, don't fret! Wiki notation is very easy, and can be picked up in a couple of minutes. Don't let your fear of syntax stop you from joining in on this project!

The more people we have working on it, the better the Wiki will be. So join the fun! Uncle CAG wants you to leave your mark on the community!

I have sent out account info (to the email account on file at CAG) to all those who requested CAGwiki editing access (as of 8pm EST).
