Based on a quick glimpse, it basically sounds like PM Steven Harper is freezing Parliament until early March, and that not just halts everything they're working on, it kills it.

By means of comparison, imagine that President Obama decided to stop Congress from convening or acting for a period of 6 weeks, stalling/killing everything on their plate.

Once you're done guffawing with Washington-dysfunctional rhetoric, think about the implications of halting such a major federal legislative body for period of time.

All hail King Harper? Sounds like it to me.

Do our Canadian vs forums folks have anything to add? Like telling us about the delicious flavour of Elsinore beer?

I was surprised to find out a while ago that there were still Canadian loyalists that support more British royalty in the Canadian government. Weird.

The PM is making a power play to enslave the Canucks, eh?

I hear he is controlling the majority of the Canadian weapons: 7 sharpened sticks, eh?

If the bastard gets control of any of the three bullets in the entire country, he'll be unstoppable, eh?
It does make you wonder what it's all aboot.
There is going to be a false flag operation during the Olympics.

The US will annex Canada because Michael Phelps is killed. Fair trade, right?

Due to the influx of "eh"s, the dollar will collapse and be replaced by the Amero.

Come, brother, let's close our credit card accounts and mortgages together!

CRACKPOTS UNITE!

Well, since we have a minority government, power hungry members of other parties just really want Harper out so they can be on top, so they basically just turn down everything he says.

Fun recap:
Minority government = epic fail.

if you pay attention to canadian politics, you've definitely heard this story before.

I meant that the US has their own "kill anything that moves" Congressional M.O. in the opposition party right now.

Canada is literally foreign, so yeah, I'd say I find it foreign. Parliamentary system, embracing a bilingual system to accommodate those who disprefer English, nasty-ass poutines? Yeah, that's foreign.
^Do you really find Canada so foreign?
Your strange northern ways confuse me.;)

But seriously, it technically is, and we don't share the same political structure. Just good to know that politicians are idiots no matter where you are.

I guess you got a point, but the people are definetley alike in many many ways. My folks are from India, and occasionally i'll watch news with my dad and it looks like they are even bigger idiots then any politician or ex-politician(*cough*Palin*Cough) in north america.

It's a big problem. Mr. Harper, again, completely disregards the will of the Canadian people.

The opposition is finally getting themselves into gear, though. Hopefully they'll vote down the spring budget and get an election.

American newsmedia was too busy covering...um, liberal stuff, I'm told. Michael Jackson's doctor's indictment or youtube videos of kittens.
First stage of enacting the NAU?
Well, im sure you guys all know about the olympics in Vancouver(i hope). And since all of the world is going to be looking at Canada critically, Harper decided that since he didn't want to get owned by the media, because of the whole handing detainees over thing, he was gonna call Prorogue. Mostly because he wants to get elected again, but that whole serial rapist/murderer that was the third most powerful military man in canada came out, and now everyone knows about it and the conservatives are not exactly looking to well now that the media has caught on to that.
