I just checked my local eb. Yes, they did have culdcept used for $15, but it was so "used" the seal tape thing was still on the box.

Try as I can, I can't figure out why they'd do something like that.

We're all used to EB selling used games as new - but can anybody figure out what's going on here?

The only thing I can think of is that they are of the opinion that more people come to EB to buy used games and therefore more people browse that section than the new section. So, they think that maybe they can get rid of these quicker if sold as "used".

Well....I bought mine used, they had 3 copies and there were all MINT....VERY mint. I've heard a lot of other people mention this also. Something is definately afoot here.

i dunno, but a lot of people on CAG have been saying that the culdcept that they bought from b&m is new. maybe it's the display copy? whatever it is, i'm happy with my $11 new (opened) copy :D

I did get Time Crisis 2 a while back for the used price of $34. The only thing used about it was the box was opened. The game inside was still sealed and the gun was in great condition.

I bought a used game and it came sealed with no disk. I thought that was their scam for new games. Now they are doing it on used to? WTF?

Oddly, in many cases the business' warehouse gets several copies of the game from other surplused sources and in turn marks them as used without ever opening them.

EB associate told me they were shipped the games from HQ or elsewhere due to low sales. Why they were marked as used, I have no idea.. I definitely picked one up.

There's one EB in particular that always seems to give me sealed games as "used." TimeSplitters 2 and Bombastic immediately come to mind.

I'm guessing that some bratty rich kid gets a game he doesn't want for a gift, so he busts into EB and trades it in, without giving a thought about the price hit he takes. Then it has to count as a used item, sealed or not. Either that, or the warehouse thing like someone else said. Got to love when EB "going by the book" works in your favor.

This exact same thing happens at GameStop too. When a title is simply not selling, or if the game has become so rare that the used price exceeds the new (i.e. Castlevania: SOTN), warehouse will send us the game marked as used, sometimes with the plastic wrap still on the game. The first thing I bought from GameStop after I started working there was a "used" copy of the first Blood Omen game, still wrapped in plastic.

I work at EB for those who don't know. They send us brand new games from home office, branded to be sold as "Preplayed". Culcept is one of them. It doesn't always deal with if a game isn't selling right. It also deals with being overstocked. Back in November, they sent us plenty of Soul Caliber 2 (all sys) the same way. Some new ones I have seen come through in the previous weeks is Space Channel (PS2), Super Trucks...(PS2), and a few others. I was hoping that they would do the same to some games that I want like Ikaruga. Hopes this clarifys a few things.

So THAT'S why my copy of Culdcept looks so badass, once again CAG solves another of life's mysteries :p

Yes, sometimes we got new games still sealed but were told to mark them as used when I worked at EB. It's a great deal if you are lucky enough to be around when they come in. I remember they did it with Xenosaga which is when I picked it up.
