I could've sworn there was one before, but I couldn't find it through search, or in this section anywhere, so here it is.

It just seems pretty often people are making threads asking if they paid too much for x or y.
 
I tend to go by the rule of "If I have to ask myself if it's too much, then it probably is". I'm one to ask BEFORE the purchase. I do my research. I never blind buy and then come on CAG and say "HEY I JUS BAUGHT NFL FOOTBALL 1997 FOR SEGA SATURN FOR $15 DID I PAY 2 MUCH?!?".
 
Well not asking, because I know I did...

Bought Madworld at GS for $50 launch day...4 months later I saw it on sale at Amazon for $10.

That all depends on how much you paid for your PS2 slim, or if you were just missing it. It doesn't really get much cheaper unless you get the replacement ones from China, which is questionable at best. Slims still go for a decent amount for a new one, so just replacing the adapter for $10 seems like a decent deal, assuming it's an official one.

I just paid $40 for a like new copy of Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth. I think I was on the higher end of what it should go for, but I don't think it was too astronomical (It is supposed to be in perfect condition after all.)

As long as it ends up in perfect condition or at the very least like new, then I think you should be fine.

I bought that game awhile back for about $20 complete and like new, but that was like new a couple years back, but I think it's probably gone up a bit since then for a like new complete. Are most of your other PS1 games in like new condition too?
 
Mass Effect 3 CE for full retail, even with the $50 in GameStop giftcards I used. Last time I buy into the hype (for real this time!!).

Reading the AWD posts about people picking up either Like New or Sealed copies for ~$30 less than 2 months after release had me kicking myself.

edit: I guess this is supposed to be an 'ask the community' thread, not a confirmation of what I already know. ;)

Of my 798 games I currently own, about 2-4% are not like new, so yes aside from my scratched and resurfaced copy of CTR that got played to death when I was a kid, my PS1 games teh beautiful. lol

I paid $13 for the PS2 slim it came with the AV cable and a GameStop controller (which was completely broken to bits inside) and I bought a PS2 dualshock for $2 so total was $25 for the system

Even with the cable then you stayed under $40, so I think you did pretty good.
 
Instead of starting a threat elsewhere...
Thinking about buying a red 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land, and Zelda OOT 3D for $100. I have to drive about 45 minutes to pick up as well. These seems like a good deal to me but then again I haven't kept up to date on any Nintendo stuff for a long time. Yay or nay?
 
Here are the pictures he put. They look pretty damned good. I'll be taking to plunge today, assuming the console functions when I get there.

yeah $100 seems pretty good and even with the 45 minute drive that's like what $20 worth of gas? so $120.

Was $12 for Sonic The Hedgehog (w/ case & manual) and Sonic 2 (w/ case & manual) and Sonic & Knuckles (game only) a good deal?
 
What do you guys think a Wii is worth these days?

I can get one for around $65-$75 with the box, manuals and everything else that came with the wii sports bundle

should i just wait till the wii U drops and pick up a wii on the cheap then? will prices drop even more for the original wii

I would wait until after the Wii U comes out to buy a Wii, there will undoubtedly be tons of people dumping their Wii's for the Wii U. I personally wouldn't dump mine because its a gamecube compatible model and gamecube games that are displayed in progressive scan look pretty great on a HDTV. Component cables for the Wii are also dirt cheap. Dare I say that some gamecube games look better than some Wii games on a HDTV?

Also make sure you get the White Wii or Red, since those are the only 2 that have gamecube compatibility. I think there might be a black one that has it but there are also black ones that aren't gamecube compatible.

Yeah I am only looking for one of the white earlier models.

I am not in desperate need of a wii, just like to collect nintendo systems and figured it was high time I add a wii. But like you said it is probably better to wait till after the wii u.

Indeed, there is no reason to keep shit sealed. Keep it in perfect condition, but fuck spending money on something you can't even touch or look at. That's so stupid.

I just bought a supposedly "perfect" Mega Man Legends 2 for $80 shipped. It seems like I did alright. I saw a few like news go for $70-$75 shipped, some went for more than I paid, and plenty of very goods going for about what I paid. I'm just excited to finally play it all these years later. I only ever played the first one!

lol thats cool if you think that way but its called collecting, and people pay the big bucks for sealed stuff, something I've learned quite to my advantage.

I don't quite understand it myself, especially when I see people on here buying 1-3 copies of newly released games to keep sealed, but it is impressive when you see a massive sealed collection of older stuff.
 
It is for the old stuff just because it's old I guess. I'm a collector myself, I just can't understand not opening stuff. You can't look through the manual, can't play the game, can't see the disc art. etc, etc. It just seems like it's prohibiting any enjoyment from your own things lol.

well people usually buy a copy thats sealed for display, and then another one for play. They could probably do something more imaginative with their funds but w/e

If you look at the monthly pickup thread sometimes you see people buy sealed copies for keep.
I remember one guy bought like two FF 13-2's for each system to keep sealed lol. I believe their plans are to keep one sealed, and sell the other sealed copy later on as the game goes out of production.
 
I think trading in old pennies or rare clods of dirt is usually quicker and more lucrative than trying to play the 'will this be rare' game. lol

The color shouldn't really matter, all you have to check for are gamecube ports on the top for controller and memory card slots. Unless for some reason some wiis have no backwards compatible but still have GameCube memory card slots, but that seems silly. Still correct me if i am wrong :)
 
I am pretty sure that the new wii's don't have memory card slots at all but knowing the colors would help when you can't see the item in a picture or physically.

Mario Kart is a blast.
I like baseball, so I enjoy super sluggers...
Never played the Olympic games ones, so no idea.

However, when you break it down, you got 1 $30 game, 1 $20 game, 2 $10 games and a $60 dollar console.
 
I paid $65 (with tax) for UFC Undisputed 2010 the day it launched; did I pay too much? Oh, wait I know I did since the game was $30 two weeks after launch. :rofl:

That said, I always buy WWE games at launch plus DLC, its okay to have a weekness or two. ;)

Considering the level of fraud that occurs with sealed old games, I would never pay for an old sealed game on the idea that there was hopefully a real version of the game inside there... somewhere.
 
I think keeping games sealed as an "investment" is the same idea that killed the comic book and baseball card industry.

In the 90's they literally started printing special edition cards, Nolan Ryan has 1 rookie card, Albert Pujols has like 100. They eventually flooded their own market away.

Same with comic books. Lots of "special collector's edition" and crap like that in the 90's. I think if something is marked "Collector's Edition" it probably has a cool bonus, but 10 years from now won't be worth crap, because there is an equal number of standard editions out there.

While that may happen at some point, baseball cards and comics started taking a dive after everyone and their mom started collecting them for value. I'd guess that only 1% or less of the total gaming population collects games for value and there certainly isn't companies that are capitalizing on sealed collector's like comic companies did with their number 1s in the 90s. Baseball cards and comics from before collecting went in vogue are still valuable, the same will hold true for sealed games.
 
I bought a Sega Master System a couple months ago and was in need of some games (Can only play Shinobi and Choplifter so many times) so I bought Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic Chaos for $35 shipped from a seller in the UK. Did I pay too much?

PS. All three of those games were terrible. Sonic w/o the speed...yuck!
