The DS is poised to break 5,000,000 in Japan by 2006.

Well, maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but it'll be really close.

In the past three weeks in Japan...

First week - 125,000+

Second week - 175,000

Third week - 300,000

Since launch, the DS has sold 4,250,373, so if it keeps increasing like it is (and it will get a big jump with Brain Training 2 and Mario & Luigi at the end of the month).

Animal Crossing WW is a really big surprise; in the three weeks that it has been released, it helped boost the DS, and sold more than 325k, and around 160k in the last two weeks, adding up to about 650,000 in Japan alone, and so it has automatically broken 1,000,000, since the preorders in America were at about 400,000 (I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure that is accurate). It is just THAT close to outselling the GCN version, and only in the matter of three weeks even.

Mario Kart DS is the number two handheld game in the US, behind Nintendogs, selling 220,000 copies, and 219,000 in Japan (not including bundled sales), and in Europe, I'm not quite sure how well it sold, I believe it's sold at least 100,000 (again, not counting bundled sales).

Nintendogs has been consistently selling very high in all regions, and surprisingly, is at about 900,000 in the US, 800,000 in Japan and 1,000,000 in Europe (once again, not counting bundled sales). Counting bundled sales, I assume that it is close to 1,500,000 in Europe, and breaking 1,000,000 in the US. In Japan, sales have settled down slightly,

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow sold, more or less, 50,000 copies this month, coming out to 130,000 in the US. I can't find Japanese sales, though. c_c

Tamagotchi is still selling strong, selling 48,000 copies this week, for a total of 473,000 copies.

Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon sold 64,000 (GBA version at 62,000) copies this week, totalling 273,000 copies since release (GBA version at 271,000). Pokémon Torouze sold 55,663 last month, totalling 131,040.

Brain Training is still selling like mad, despite being released eight months ago. It sold 92,287 copies in November, totalling 795,610 copies in total.

Gyakuten Saiban DS sold 7,596 copies in november, totalling 94,746. Only about 84,000 copies to go, Phoenix Wright!

Jump Superstars is still doing relatively well, with 15,975 sold in November, and 419,853 overall.

Sawaru Made in Wario (WarioWare: Touched!) sold a total of 816,211 copies in Japan, and Super Mario 64 DS sold a total of 783,263. Sawaru sold 9,251, while 64 DS sold 8,850. Wario continues to kick Mario's butt!

Something called "Gentle Logic Puzzles" (I think it might be a part of the Brain Training franchise) sold 70,831 copies in November, and 683,464 in its life span.

Super Princess Peach's total sales is somewhat low, with only 82,573 copies, but it looks like it may have long legs, with 33,706 copies sold in November. We'll just have to wait to see if it sells consistently.

Overall, at this moment, it is very close to breaking 10,000,000 worldwide, thanks to Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, the Brain Trainings and Nintendogs. Here's hoping that MKDS does better than the undeserving MKDD did (very well, that is).

MK: DD, you mean, at the very end...

And yes, it wasn't as good as Mario Kart DS.

My only gripe with MK: DS is that they chose some of the most simple, uninteresting "Classic" levels, but then with some of the new original ones, proved it wasnt a technological reason that they didnt choose more complex ones from the GCN or N64...they just chose crappy ones ("Baby Park", anyone?)

I wish DK's Mountain would have made the cut...sigh...

Whoops, you're right. I always get those two abbreviations messed up.

Although it doesn't effect me (not purchasing MKDS for a while), DK's Mountain was a nice level.

The DS is solid proof that content pushes console sales so much more than specs do. I really hope Nintendo can create the same kind of magic with the Revolution.

i agree about the poor selection of "classic" tracks on the ds, but w/ 4 players baby park on the gc IS a very fun track to race...and yes...dk moutain would have been awesome...

I really like the Clock Tower track they made for it. With all the turning gears and stuff...really original and fun stuff...and Bowser's Castle is pretty fun too. It was 100 percent worth the 25 bucks I spent on it.

Hell, my DS was worth MORE than the 100 I spent on it. I can already tell that when Zelda and Mario come out for it, I'll be playing it more than my computer!
Excellent figures. And I back Baby Park. That's course is monster in multi-play.
After about three laps on Baby Park, the whole thing is a mess of banana peels and dummy boxes with various shells flying all over the place...

It almost brought my drunken friends to blows. So yeah, it's a good level. :D

Those are some good sales figures. I'm sure Nintendo is very happy.
I'm sure that the new 2d Mario will sell a ton of copies and a ton of DS systems.
Just think what would happen if Nintendo decided to release an original 3d Zelda or a new Super Smash Brothers.

Very true. But I'm glad they're holding off on the likes of Zelda and SSB and other franchise greats for later. No fun creating competition with themselves.

Does anyone know if Sony is even trying any more with the PSP? It just seems kind of over for them, y'know? It went from "Dude! I got a PSP!" to "Yeah, I need a DS... all I've got is a PSP."

It's been a long time since I've seen any electronics device lose the interest of consumers that hard that quick.

I still love my PSP, and there are quite a few titles for it I want commig out next year, but it still can't hold a candle to the amouint of time and money I've spent on my DS. The problem is that the PSP is doing too many different things, and it aint cheap. As for the DS, it's doing one thing (and cheaply priced) and doing it right. In some ways I see this as a small preview of the Revolution.

Glad I'm not the only one who w2as saddened by the eclusion of DK Montain, but at least they threw in Bowser's Castle GBA, one of my fav MK tracks.

Is the baby park track you guys talking about is the same one on MKDD?? If so I have to say even though the track is short it is fun when you play with friends. It is popular with them because it requires some drifting skills and its very easy to knock somebody off.

Yes it is. Half the levels in Mario Kart DS are from other Mario Kart games.

The DS is doing so well in Japan, but why do American consumers keep buying the PSP? Seriously, you have to blind or ignorant to say that, at the moment, the DS doesn't have the better game library. That, or gaming isn't as important as watching movies.:)

PSP = social status. DS does not.

It seems half assed to me, like they ran out of time and couldn't think of a better idea.

Portavle servage is quite good, yes.
PSP = social status. DS does not.
Yeah, that's true... I know I'd rather pay hundreds of dollars to look cool than play decent games. I'm being sarcastic but I'm guessing most mainsteam gamers think that way.

I'm not saying the PSP is bad (well, maybe the dead pixel issue could've been better resolved) but when I buy a device for gaming... I expect to game on it. I could understand if Sony marketed the PSP as an 'entertainment device' but they said the PSP's main function would to be play games. Of course, they never said anything about good games... damn you Sony marketing fiends!

But anyway, 2006 looks boring on the DS front... on both fronts really. The DS is getting two or three big name games (New Super Mario Bros., MP Hunters, FFCC) but nothing to the caliber of this year.

Gamers aside, PSP has been "hip" here in L.A. ever since it came out, amongst non-gamers. It's the portable 360 that you can actually buy, and better yet, you can be seen with it!!!!omg

I would expect to see Children of Mana, Final Fantasy 3, Tales of Tempest, Archaic Sealed Heat (Mistwalker) toward the end of the year, when most of the blockbusters are released anyway. I think 2006 will be fine for the DS

Don't forget about Super Monkey Ball, Rub Rabbits, Electroplankton, Dynasty Warriors, Resident Evil, Mario 3x3 Basketball, Guilty Gear, Princess Peach, and Custom Robo, all or most of which should be released in 06. Frankly, I haven't had time to catch up to all the top releases this year to be worried about next year, at the moment.

How old are you? 12?
Seriously why give a rat's ass what's hip or trendy that you can be seen with? God forbid you have a Creative MP3 player than a IPod... god forbid you have a Gamecube rather than XBox.
People who care about that are vapid and feebleminded. Try actually making educated decisions for yourself than being told what's good by others. Silly brainwashed drone.

Eh... it can be summed up in my conversation with my fiancee's 17 year old brother this weekend when I brought my DS in case the holiday events bored me. I would quote the convo but it was boring as hell, so... summary: "Why'd you get a DS, the PSP is so much cooler." "Umm... the DS has ridiculously better games than the PSP." "But the PSP is like a PS2!"

Yeah... I gave up.

I was thrown off by Vegan's previous post along with that one. So I redirect my statement to those who view PSP as a social status item and the DS as a kiddie toy.

It can go both ways though. Disliking a system (TV, show, movie, or anything else for that matter) and refusing to give it a chance simply because it is popular is equally as asinine.
