Doesn't it make you wonder why the French and Swiss are trying to look for "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy"in the first place?
 
UGH. The LHC has the potential to create black holes, but they will be on a quantum scale and thus will be governed by Hawking Radiation and evaporate almost instantaneously.

More powerful collisions of particles occur in our upper atmosphere with gamma rays EVERY DAY. fuckin' morons.
 
Now see if they can figure out how to measure, control, contain, reproduce safely...then you will have one hell of a power source.

Why didnt they just put that in the article? It would have summed up for people who are afraid of this machine

because cnn.com just reports it where as cnn tv will have some consultant talk about it for about 5 minutes then move on to something else.
 
the only thing controversial about this article is that ITDEFX put it in the vs. forum in the first place. this thread should be moved to generate more discussion.

that being said, we all know the world is ending in 2012, so this shouldnt be a problem.

Many of us majored in engineering or hard sciences. We just don't care enough to insult him, like you do. Why does it matter whether or not he understands what particle accelerators do? I'm sure he knows some things that I don't.

That being said, they're already cooling the tunnel to 2 K and they'll only be injecting the first hadron streams in August. No collisions until September, at the earliest.

Wouldn't it be cool though to have the power to end the world. Just be standing there in front of a button with the lives of 8 billion people and countless species of animals riding on your shoulders. Just be sitting there caressing the button freaking out people and be causing massive amounts of heart attack and panic attacks. Just stay there. Act like your hand slipped and pushed the button just to freak out more people. Sounds kinda nice. Kinda Sick in a George Bush in Iraq kinda way.

If a black hole is created , big or small...they aren't going to tell anyone about it.

If a portal to another dimension is opened...they aren't going to tell anyone about it.

If the dark lords of the universe come out, they aren't going to tell anyone about it.

if the whole ring and the area within it just vanishes, CNN will be the first one to report it.

And no, I don't think an Inverse Tachyon Pulse or a Static Warp shell created by Data Wesley Crusher is going to close the damn hole!!
