Just read an article about the making of the first one last night. I had no idea about the extent of the problems they had with the real life mafia in getting it made, and after they came to an agreement, how many mafiosos were actually in the movie itself. The first two are easily some of the greatest films ever made.

This. I still have the old DVD boxset from awhile ago, and I remember it cost me a pretty penny back in the day (I think $80 or so), so I'll definitely be holding off on this until Amazon pulls a deal like they did with the BTTF blu ray set for $25.
