"I could end the deficit in five minutes. You just pass a law that says that any time there's a deficit of more than three percent of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. Yeah, yeah, now you've got the incentives in the right place, right? (Laughs)

So, the other day, some of our fine posters were salivating over Buffett's every last word concerning his thoughts on our Federal Government's economic policy.* I wonder if anyone will come out in support of this?

*exaggeration used for effect

So you not only quote CNBC, but ascribe some sort of knob gobbling to some CAGs that were in support of changing the tax code to be more equitable and how 1 fucking person can't cut a check and make a difference? Of which YOU were arguing?

Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit.

What the fuck difference will having an entirely new legislature that is just as beholden to corporate interests compared to those that were just deemed ineligible for re-election? Absolutely none, you short-sighted simpleton.

dohdough: "Warren Buffett is a great man." - these exact words were used - on this very forum - to describe Buffett, barely two months ago. I don't expect you to come forth and defend the words of others, but to pretend that there wasn't a bit of hero worship going on w/r/t Buffett would be highly dishonest.
this was said so long ago
Four months = "so long ago"?
Thought you were going to post something from Howard Buffett.

[disappointed]
There's always this, if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. ;)

A thread meant to bait and this is what you were going for?

so because we might like one of his ideas (that wasn't really original) we have to like everything the man says? DUMB.

I don't think you want that standard applied here

It's a joke, I don't think it's particularly funny but what's the big deal?

Gee, politicians will do almost anything to get reelected, what a controversial stance. Only you UB

Your plate your way?

Right, well we all know that if you support one thing somebody says, then you must support everything that somebody says.

So... basically, we're all on the same page, that Buffett isn't the go-to guy for Economic Policy then? Does this mean we can stop pulling up quotes from him because he brags about making more than his secretary and paying less in taxes?

I'll answer your question. No we are not all on the same page.

So now my turn to ask a question.

In a thread where 8 people disagree with you and the rest just make jokes, why do you post this? How much more obvious do people have to get?

So... Buffett is the go-to guy for sound advice on economic policy? You were the one who said he is "a great man" - so, perhaps, you'd be the best once to answer this.

You didn't answer my question yet dude. Fair's fair.
In a thread where 8 people disagree with you and the rest just make jokes, why do you post this? How much more obvious do people have to get?
I posted this expecting pretty much to get about the exact response I received. I expected lame jokes, insults and personal attacks - no actual discussion about the topic posted or about Buffett's plan.

As for people "disagreeing" with me - I'm not sure what, exactly, they're disagreeing with. I haven't stated that I am for or against this plan of Buffett's... so, I'm not exactly sure how anyone could "disagree" with me. (For the record, while, superficially, I like the *idea* of his plan - but, realistically, I wholly disagree with it, as there are a -very small- handful of folks up there who aren't completely mucking things up (just partially) and who should be given the chance to be re-elected).

Just give up the pretense that anything will ever make any sense.

Running the deficit is a bad idea. Even in the middle of a horrific contraction of the economy.

Nothing is ever worth running a deficit for, even WWII.

As to what benefit (benefit period let alone outweighing the negatives) having a literal zero deficit or debt brings is something that will never even be articulated let alone proven.

Excellent, you've learned what it means to troll.
Excellent, you've learned what it means to troll.
If only individuals could rise above their basic instinct to post lame jokes and insults and, instead, discuss the topic at hand, then it wouldn't have been a "troll post", would it have?
Excellent, you've learned what it means to troll.
For a topic to be discussed, there would first have to be a topic.

QED.
If only individuals could rise above their basic instinct to post lame jokes and insults and, instead, discuss the topic at hand, then it wouldn't have been a "troll post", would it have?
You posted this thread intentionally to elicit the responses you've gotten and now you're trying to rise above it all?.
You posted this thread intentionally to elicit the responses you've gotten and now you're trying to rise above it all?.
Not quite. I posted this thread knowing the type of responses that would get posted.

See, it's funny... Post something Buffett says that the liberal VS. crowd agrees with and it's perfectly okay. Post something Buffett says that the liberal VS. crowd disagrees with and you're trolling. Does that pretty much sum up your viewpoint?

No, it's trolling when you knowingly post a thread that has no hope or plan of staying on topic. It has nothing to do with a "liberal bias" or selectivity; it has everything to do with you baiting people into an argument with this thread. Now no one wants to take your bait and so you're somehow above all of this. What-the-fuck-ever.

So... because I post a topic - one very similar to something that was already discussed on this forum - and because other people can't manage to stay on topic/resist their basic instincts, it makes me a troll to post it. Gotcha. By this same logic, if I were to tell you here and now, with every post you make on this forum, I'm going to respond with lame jokes and and insults/attacks, then you go and make a post, you would be doing so knowing that the response would be lame jokes and insults/attacks and thus *you* would be trolling. By your very logic, of course.

Shame! Shame! Stop posting bait threads and generally being dishonest in arguments!

Ok here's your serious reply to the OP

"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong"

It's the same as the 999 & flat tax nonsense. If you have a complex problem, the most simple solution isn't necessarily the best one. Think of the application of that rule. When does it go into effect, meaning at what point of debt surpassing 3% of GDP do we enact the "GTFO" rule? It's entirely possible to go into debt during the 2nd fiscal quarter but emerge during the 3rd or 4th. In addition to that, now we're going to have candidates sweeping in to grab empty seats that have no prior voting record or anything to that effect to be taken into account. You've now created a mass panic as well as a "lame duck" session once the sitting congress is told that they will indeed GTFO.

So yeah, dumbass fucking idea.

If you support Ron Paul's opposition to the Civil Rights Act you must think abortion should be illegal too....right? But you were salivating over his position on the Civil Rights Act! SALIVATING! Or is Ron Paul really the go-to guy for government policy?

I think some of you are missing the point - I have never described Ron Paul as a "great man" - nor would I ever defend him as such.

You made a fairly polite, serious response that completely gutted the current idiocy.

Note that you will not any real response let alone acknowledgement of any of your points.

Remember it the next time the trolls lie and say they just want to be taken seriously.
