The Handle on the Gamecube

Ok I don't notice a lot of stuff, and I got my cube a couple weeks ago and just noticed it had a handle! WTF? Has anyone ever used this, I mean it looks like a lunch pale if you carry it. Anyway does anyone know why there is a handle and have you ever used it!?!?
 
I use it only when I'm carrying it short distances like from one room to another. Otherwise I just pack it away in its box if I need to go long distance. Even though I don't use it much I think it adds character.
 
It's a subconscious effort to have the players differentiate the Gamecube from the competition - Nintendo's machine is meant to be THE party machine. It's meant to be moved - carried, taken. Multiple controller schemes also reflect this (carried over from 64, essentially). etc.

The handel isnt used for carrying, it's for like just said moving between rooms but mostly butt also generally for a hand hold if you need to adjust it's position on a desk.

It's not strong enough for carying long distances or being slung around... it's not designed to be heavy duty.
 
If this took you two weeks to notice you should thoroughly check out that area between where your legs join your body. There is a gaming accessory there you really need to become acquainted with.
 
The other day I found an licensed carrying case for the gamecube at the TRU green tag sale. It has a space for the gamecube handle to stick out of the top. The case relies on the handle for the cube as the handle for the case. Since the handle on my cube is pretty secure this doesn't seem too bad to me.
I'll make sure to post a thread if it ever comes off.....

I like to put my sandwich in the top to carry it to school. It makes it into a nice little circle.

If you've ever cracked a cube open, you'd notice the handle is fairly secure inside. Nothing short of running a car over it will result in it falling out.
 
I also have a Nintendo carrying case for my GC. It is a nice size, but once you get the Cube in the with the power adapter, etc it would be tough to get it out again without the handle. I use the handle quite a bit - would be a pain to manage moving it around without it.
 
It makes a sturdy, stable base to clamp on flip-up LCD screens. Compared to how the screens have to clamp onto the backside of the other consoles, the gamecube's handle offers probably the second most secured LCD-screen-to-console mounting system. (PSOne's bolt-on screen still wins that category; you can tell that bugger isn't coming off until you take it off.)

It's also useful for practicing your hammerthrow for the Summer/Special Olympics, but you'd probably want to take off the LCD screen first.

funny story there my friend was swinging a gamecube around last year by the handle it snapped off flew thought the air and went right out the window no joke
 
IMO it makes the gamecube more portable apperaring like someone said earlier. the xbox and ps2 laying flat are like a cd player in your home theater set-up, not meant to be moved. the gamecube is made were you have to have space above the cube to open it and the handle in the back just make it less of a fitting system in most locations.

it also is used that that your friends that own a ps2 or xbox and not a cube can say you own a barney purse.
 
Mostly, I think they had the idea that it could be moved around within the house: kids can play in their room or hook it up in the living room . . . giving that feeling of mobility to it.

Lunchbox??? I've always likened it to a purse.

I've owned one of these since I first bought the Cube. It actually does have a very small handle attached to it that you probably didn't notice, placed there no doubt to appease those who don't trust the system handle. I've always carried it by the system handle, though, and have never had a problem. It's always been the lunchbox to me, and I've never heard it referred to as a purse. :?

I've always wanted to hit someone upside the head with the gamecube via the handle, but then I wouldn't able to play paper mario 2 or the resident evil series from 4 til the exclusive contract runs out.

Ive also thought it would be funny to hold the Gamecube by the handle and hit someone on the head with it.
