I thought i'd start a different thread for this.

I'm asking you CAG GC fans to give me a list of what you guys consider the must-have GC games, as well as other generally good games.

Also, if you guys don't mind, fill me in a little about what the game is (genre, what you do, why you like it, etc). Much appreciation to all that help!

Pikmin 2 - great quirky fun game that is really one of a kind (Strategy-esque).

Legend of Zelda Wind Waker - Can't go wrong with any Zelda game. This on isn't as good as OoT, but is fun nonetheless (Action).

Super Smash Brothers Melee - One of the best multiplayer games of all time IMO (Platform Fighter).

Resident Evil 4 - Best game on the system, a must buy if you don't have the PS2 version already (Action/3rd Person Shooter/Survival Horror).

And pretty much any first party Nintendo game, you can't go wrong with them (most of the time).

There was another thread like this a few months back but anyway to answer your question I would have to say Zelda, Metroid, Mario, RE4, Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Tales of Symphonia, SSBM, Fire Emblem:pOR, Mario Kart Double Dash, Paper Mario.

I personally really like Donkey Konga although I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

My games:

Animal Crossing - RPG/Virtual Life/Sim; very addictive, can be fun or mudane...often both
Resident Evil 4 - Survival/Horror/Third Person Action-Adventure/Shooter; challenging, tense--a must have for the system
The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker - 3D Action RPG; it's 3D Zelda!
Super Smash Brothers Melee - 2D Multiplayer Fighting; fun party-type game w/other people
Mario Power Tennis - Arcade Sports; another fun multiplayer-type game
Fire Emblem: The Path of Radiance - Strategy RPG; good story, solid gameplay for tatics fans
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - RPG; good story, semi real-time elements in turn-based battles

I'm tempted to get the Mario Party bundle. Even though I already have a platinum system, it's just such a great value with two controllers, game, and microphone for the same price as the system by itself. Plus, the black color is more conducive to skinning.

*Luigi's Mansion: genre- not sure, what you do- suck up ghosts, why I like it- really nice graphics, great puzzles, just a very well rounded game (it has that nintendo magic).
*Eternal Darkness: genre- horror, what you do- fight monsters, why I like it- great story, interesting gameplay, best voice acting in any game I've ever played.
*Donkey Kong Jungle Beat: genre- arcade style action game, what you do- clear levels and fight bosses, why I like it- excellent old school arcade style platforming with a twist (you play with the included bongo controller)
*Legend of Zelda Four Swords: genre- action adventure (just like every other zelda game), what you do- clear dungeons and a few nondungeon "scenarios", why I like it- just plain fun, best multiplayer game ever (it is well worth the investment in gbas and link cables to play)
*Pacman Vs: genre- it's Pacman!, what you do- this game is just Pacman except that all the characters are controlled by human players, why I like it- adds tremendous strategy and competition to the old classic, both gamers and nongamers love it, you only need 1 gba and 1 link cable to play, it's free! (at least it used to be....now you'll probably have to buy Pacman World 2 to get the packedin Pacman Vs disc)

Runner ups: Pikmin 2 (get this instead of Pikmin 1), F-ZeroGX (a futuristic racer...fast as hell and hard as hell....a real adrenaline rush)

Major disappointments:
*Legend of Zelda Windwaker- Do not get this game. A shame to the Zelda series. You're better off with some generic action adventure zelda copycat (really).
*Metroid Prime- Backtracking galore. The first half of the game is good, but the second half is tedious when you need to go through all the same areas again (and fight the same bad guys again). Not to mention, the game is full of serious bugs (freezes, memory card problems, etc.).

Have you never played a Metroid game before? That's sort of what this game series is all about, exploration and reexploration.

It works in 2D, but not in 3D.

It's the same formula as the original metroid. You get a new ability you backtrack and go to an unaccessible area. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Man you must really hate the Castlevania games.

Ok, fine. I'll admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of the original metroid games, but I still think Metroid Prime is worse than they were.

I actually kind of liked the Castelvania games though.

Some of my favorite GameCube games:

Paper Mario : Thousand Year Door
Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Animal Crossing
Prince of Persia : Sand of Time

I'm currently playing Pikmin. It's pretty fun so far. I've also been playing Super Mario Sunshine, but I found it to be a hard game even with the help of a guide.

Skies of Arcadia -- must own RPG, especially if you haven't played the Dreamcast version
Mario Kart: Double Dash! -- Mario + Kart racing, 'nuff said
Zelda -- very stylish and fun adventure game
Super Monkey Ball 2 -- fun game period, but gets frustrating
Tales of Symphonia -- great RPG
F-Zero GX -- pure adrenaline

It's a great time to be a cheap ass gamer.

Good for you. Welcome to my favorite console. All of the above recommendations are good, except for the poster who said to ignore Metroid and Zelda. I think he bought the wrong system.

One of my favorites is Monkey Ball, I know it's out on the others, but you should be able to pick up a copy for $10. Also look out for Wave Race:Blue Storm for a fun water racing game. (Excellent physics) And if you're an RPG fan and missed it on the DC the first time around, do not skip Skies of Arcadia Legends. That took a month of my life.
I really enjoy the Rouge squadron games...
Hehe, is that one where Ewan McGregor flies around Paris with Nicole Kidman as his wingman?

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

me fail english thats unpossible, I would fix it with an edit, but really, does anyone learn from that

I agree that Skies of Arcadia is a great RPG, and my favorite RPG available for the Cube, having never played the Dreamcast version myself.

Another Dreamcast game ported to the cube is also one of my favorite games. Ikaruga. The best shooter of this generation, IMO. And I'm not the only one who seems to think this, because i've noticed oftentimes in gaming magazines, when they do a review for an upcoming shooter, it seems they almost always compare it to Ikaruga. The music kicks ass.

As for the ongoing Zelda & Metroid argument. Bottom line is that if you enjoy FPS adventures, you will probably have fun playing Metroid. And if you have played the N64 Zelda games, you will have a similarly fun adventure on the Cube's offering. The best news about it is that both of these games can be had for very cheep ass prices so you won't be out much if you decide to formulate your own opinion by trying the games yourself.

1. Eternal Darkness - My favorite gamecube exclusive game.
2. Tales of Symphonia - a quality PRG that can played many times through.
3. Pikmin - the original is far better than the second one IMO.
4. Metroid Prime - I really enjoyed the first one, I haven't been able to get the 2nd one yet.
oh..... and
5. RESIDENT EVIL 4.
6. Smash Bros. Melee
7. Zelda: WW
8. Beyond Good and Evil (if you don't have it on other platforms)

I didn't say to avoid Zelda. I said to avoid Wind Waker. Four Swords is the best game of the generation IMO.

I don't agree. I loved the N64 games, but Wind Waker was a total collectathon. The graphics were fabulous, but the game itself was weak. Extremely disappointing, especially after the masterpiece that is Majora's Mask (my favorite game from last generation).

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad game per say, but the reason I buy Nintendo games because I only have time for the best, most polished games. Wind Waker had a lot of potential, but it was not polished. IMO it was on par with your average third party game. Fun? Probably. Enough fun to be worth all the time I put into it? No.

I thought Zelda WindWaker was a step down... in the series.... after OOT was so epic...

I picked up 3rd cube last week... Pokemon bundle.. can't go wrong with $69...

As of the moment Resident Evil 4 is my favo cube titled...

oh my other 2 cubes is goin out as gifts...

You know what I didn't like about Metroid Prime was that you had the auto-lock on targets, I thought that KILLED the game. I wouldve been so much happier if you had to actually aim instead of holding down a button and locking on, or if they at least had an option to turn on or off the auto lock... besides that it was a pretty decent game, maybe a little overhyped because of the name behind it but nonetheless a quality game

As far as must haves, RE4, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart come to mind right away
Alright! Just bought my Gamecube!

Should come in a few days.
Great! I got mine about a week ago "Pokemon XD Bundle" for $56 at Meijer :D

(Santabucks and 10% Meijer employee discount)

I need some help figuring out what to do. I got a duplicate DVD set for Christmas, so one is going back to Circuit City and I'll have $40 in my pocket. I'm debating between 3 options right now:
1) A Wavebird (a friend at school has one and they're very nice, not sure if I want to get one right now though. I do enjoy rumble features, and I don't have anywhere where cords won't reach or are in the way)
2) Super Mario Strikers
3) Mario Baseball

Any thoughts? I'd have to kick in $10 to either of the games, but that's not an issue. Currently, I've got RE4, VJ2 (thank you TRU!), FZero GX, and have Bongos and games as well as Naruto 4 on their way to me. Another thought was maybe 2 PC games, though most of those my friends have and I can borrow whenever (Wind Waker, Mario, etc.)

If you have friends to play with, Mario Baseball is a winner. Haven't played enough of Mario Strikers to compare it yet. If you're mostly solo, then out of those three, get a Wavebird, they're great. Oh, and if you have a GameRush near you, you don't need to kick in an extra $10 (all 49.99 new releases are 39.99)

What is the build quality between the Wavebird and the corded controller?

and is there a GOOD 3rd party controller corded/cordless that exists?

Thank you :)

The wavebird has excellent build quality, perhaps even better than the official corded controller.

As far as 3rd party controllers go, I have a Pelican G3 Wireless controller (PL-7008) and I think it is excellent. I've had it for about 3 years and I've only changed the batteries once (last week actually). It is slightly less comfortable than a wavebird, but the included rumble (which can be toggled on and off) makes it better than the wavebird IMO.

Just got the system in the mail!

If it weren't for needing to clean my apartment, I'd be playing it. Oh well, what's a couple of hours?

1. super monkey ball
2. super smash bros melee
3. metroid prime
4. metroid prime 2
5. legend of zelda: WW
6. legend of zelda: Ocarina of Time/masterques.[this game was given to those who reserved WW but if u havent played it and you know someone who has this game, borrow it. its a great game]

Got myself a wavebird.. Its better built than the controller that was with my XD bundle.. Is the battery life really 100 hours?

They seem to last forever. I have 4 of them. Sold the corded controller on eBay.

The Pelican version that rumbles, I wish I could find that one. I had two of their non-rumble versions and they eventually went awry (characters moved in the wrong direction as if calibration went out the window) after a few months. What I don't get is that Intec was able to make a wireless controller with a rumble feature and even though it's not really noticeable, they did it and if the WaveBird had it, that would just be icing on the cake. Even so, Pelican could have done it. But Intec...geez...that purple, wireless controller they have is ass. Everytime a phone rang (which had spread spectrum technology), the transmission would fuck up. If you got the money, go with the WaveBird, just don't get (ahem...anything) Intec.
