The Iron Sheik's wrestling topic

Say hello to The Iron Sheik!

13.jpg

You are worse than Michael Jackson!

Bios:

No good punk, sonnuva bitch!

You gotta love how this guy has gone completely off his rocker. Still within the wrestling world he'll probably be best remembered as the guy who dropped the belt to Hogan. The transitional champion between Hogan and Mr. Bob Backlund.

Somehow lost in the shuffle of his internet fame, is the fact that the Iron Sheik was indeed a great singles wrestler, and a very good tag team wrestler with the man he refers to as a great friend (and a cheap jew) Nikolai Volkoff.

He's the real deal folks, he's a shooter! Plus, he's a Hall of Famer! How can you not love the Sheik?

Me and the Hacksaw, we had the cocaine, the marijuana, and we had the beer!

Just don't take his medicine without paying him back, ok?

I couldn't find a clip, but a few years ago he actually had an appearance on Jerry Springer.
Look at this only if you want to see a certain masked wrestler unmasked......

Whozzat?
Abyss
Thanks. Is that the guy from TNA who has a Paul Bearer-like manager?
Except for that short time he was an Iraqi with Sgt. Slaughter:roll:
i have no idea what that is but

"Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri (حسین خسرو وزیری), born September 13, 1942, in Tehran, Iran[1], is a retired Iranian professional wrestler better known by his ring name The Iron Sheik. "

He worked an Iraqi-sympathizer gimmick along with Slaughter as Col. Mustafa, and Abyss also worked unmasked in TNA as Prince Justice during their debut show.

My Report from the ROH PPV Taping tonight!

That Nigel/Aries match was utterly amazing! They both goddamn nearly killed each other and Nigel played a refreshing heel, fingering the crowd and jawing it up as well, going as far as to draw USA chants.

The 5th PPV is far and beyond what I saw of the 4th PPV. It was soooo good. The undercard was probably the best of any of the 2007 Manhattan shows but the crowd lost steam 3/4s of the way through when the Dragon/Morishima match ended the way it did.

Nigel is turning into an awesome, awesome champion.

Daniel Puder looked good out there and genuinely had a star quality to him. He joined up with Sweet and Sour Incorporated so now it seems that SnS is made up of Larry Sweeney, Chris Hero, Daniel Puder, Tank Toland, Sara Del Ray, and Bobby Dempsey.

Line of the night!

Roderick Strong:
It's concussion time!

By the way, Dragon may have suffered a concussion since his match with Morishima was cut extremely short - That or they ran out of time for the PPV.

The mask that was worn by Judas Mesias on the 12/27 edition of iMPACT! was a replica of Slipknot frontman, Corey Taylor's mask except in blue.
I thought that mask stunk...

That thing looked as if the offspring of Jason's and Leatherface's masks went on a rampage through Smurf Village.

Also, here's Botchamania 35:

Why is it that no band performing Triple H's theme live can never get their own lyrics right?

Y'know what? Unless you're going to bring in Motorhead to sing the song, don't fucking bother. Triple H must've felt stupid as hell coming out with whoever the hell those guys were singing his theme.

EDIT - "Don't ever walk in front of my camera again woman. Don't make me go crazy."

At least the singer from Drowning Pool is dead - even if I still hear "Bodies" advertising everything under the sun still to this day.

Can anyone place the NES music that was playing during the Whipwreck/Van Hammer match?

As always, thanks for posting those.

Someone on youtube said that the Van Hammer/Whipwreck music is from Super Mario Land. Listening to it again that sounds right.
Can anyone place the NES music that was playing during the Whipwreck/Van Hammer match?
The music isn't from a NES game. It's from Super Mario Land for the original Game Boy.

It was to promote a CD, if it wasn't for that, he would've came out to his normal music(which was what played after the match).

What was bad was Motorhead botching lyrics not once, but both times they were at Wrestlemania.
Cough.

Let's not forget who relaunched the Sheik's career with that video. And I don't mean Dan Marone/Maloney/Mirade/whatever. Come on Horse, I don't rate even an 4 pt-sized font mention somewhere in there?
OMG that was you! I think I noticed that before, but never committed it to memory.

Thank you for reviving the Sheik's career, via Youtube!

Didn't think about it until I was playing through GM mode of SvR 06 last night. WTF are they doing with the cruiserweight title? Have they basically retired it?

Holy crap, I didn't even notice the name. It was the first thing that came up when I searched Youtube; I was looking for his Jerry Springer appearance.

Thanks for OVW. WOL is terrific so far, covering the year in review for both WWE and TNA. TNA gets credit for having such a loyal fanbase that the ratings don't fall for holiday shows, and for having some excellent wrestling, but knocked for having horrid booking and having TV that is a complete failure as a selling point for PPV, with "EXACTLY" 15,000 people buying the shows out of 1.5 million viewers each week.

Edit, here are the '07 (and 1 '06) TNA PPV buyrate estimates from the Observer. The reason they're just estimates is because the numbers are so low that they aren't tracked closely. Holy fuck.
35,000 for (2006) Turning Point (Joe vs. Angle)
2007
34,000 for Final Resolution (Joe vs. Angle)
23,000 for Against All Odds (Angle vs. Cage)
36,000 for Destination X (Joe vs. Cage)
35,000 for Lockdown (Team Angle vs. Team Cage)
21,000 for Sacrifice (Angle vs. Sting vs. Cage)
22,000 for Slammiversary (King of the Mountain)
15,000 for Victory Road (Joe and Angle vs. Team 3D)
26,000 for Hard Justice (Joe vs. Angle)
17,000 for No Surrender (Angle vs. Abyss)
36,000 for Bound For Glory (Sting vs. Angle)
27,000 for Genesis (Sting and Booker T vs. Angle and Nash)
Well, the good news is that only one PPV actually hit that 15,000 buy number, but the others are just... not good either. 36,000 for THE BATTLE OF THE ICON VS. THE OLYMPIAN in the BIGGEST SHOW OF THE YEAR in the company is horrid, although given that build, I'm not surprised by the low number.

Happy to oblige. I didn't realize it, but I accidentally managed to get the Ox and Hammer match at the beginning of yesterday's show, yet it was the main event of the program. It didn't really ruin anything, though.

What did you all think of Cabana and Spears' ladder match?

EDIT: I received the Shawn Michaels "Heartbreak and Triumph" DVD. Despite my disdain for the overuse of the "triumph" and "tragedy" metaphors in wresting titles these days, I'm very pleased that the match selection features *none* of his wrestlemania matches (which I already own), and they have a robust selection of matches overall. The documentary is decent, and luckily (for once!), doesn't play too much on the typical "this wrestler overcame all these odds and after they hit rock bottom, blah drug use, blah championship belt, blah WWE love blah" story arc.

It seems quite legit, it was stunning to see Vince admit that his hands were tied when the "MSG Curtain Call" happened, and he couldn't punish anyone but Triple H.

Between this set and the "From the Vault" set, there's a lot of classic HBK matches out there, without much overlap (the from the vault DVD has the WMX ladder match and the WMXII Iron Man).

And you know what? Bret Hart is still a bitch.
What did you all think of Cabana and Spears' ladder match?
Pretty decent, though I think that handcuff spot could have been executed better. They didn't do much with it other than the obvious taunting from Spears, and when it broke, for a second I thought it was a botch.

The attack from Burchill and Sanders afterwards leaves me wondering what's gonna happen next. Part of me thinks Cabana and Spears are gonna remain a tag team since they have a common enemy, but I'm hoping they're not that obvious and do something else.

I want all those save packs, man. Holy cow.

The HBK dvd is excellent. The match selection is perfect as it avoids the aforementioned duplicate matches, and the documentary touches on several topics that seemed to be tabboo in the past. They didn't delve too deep into the punishment sustained by the H's due to the MSG incident; however, that material would probably be best saved for the HHH dvd.

Ted Dibiase's comments on Bret Hart were spot-on too.
It was vacated after Hornswaggle moved over to Raw...
He's technically still a Smackdown wrestler. I, too, wonder what will become of the cruiserweight title.

Can anyone post the Raw card without spoilers?

Holy hell those saves look awesome. I got Fire Pro a few weeks ago, but don't have an Action Replay yet. The only thing I've done so far is change a few names around and made a pretty good CM Punk if I do say so myself.

JR on the cruiserweight title:

- On the Cruiserweight Title: It would seem that the Cruiserweight Title is not a priority, not that it ever was. I do not know the long term status, but my guess would be that it is in “hiatus” for now.

And in other news, back to ECW Tazz goes... the new SD announcer will be:

Coach

Not sure if that's a spoiler or not, as it's no one of relevance.

Michael Cole and that person? Wow. I don't know if it's even fair to call Smackdown the "B" show anymore. Might as well rehire Todd Pettingill at this point.
