AMARILLO, Texas - Texas-based Hastings Entertainment Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Company officials say the reorganization filing includes its parent company, Draw Another Circle, and sister brands Movie Stop and SPImages.

A statement posted Monday on the Hastings website says the Chapter 11 process will help prepare the business for an intended sale, while providing protections and financing to continue operations. Further financial details weren’t released.

Hastings will no longer accept or honor deposits for movie purchases and will no longer rent games. Hastings gift cards expire July 13, 2016. The company’s buyback program has been suspended.

General
Question: What is Hastings / GoHastings.Com?
Answer:
Founded in 1968, Hastings Entertainment, Inc. is a leading multimedia entertainment retailer that combines the sale of new and used books, videos, video games and CDs, and trends and consumer electronics merchandise, with the rental of videos and video games in a superstore format. Currently there are 146 superstores. Hastings also operates www.goHastings.com, an e-commerce Internet Web site that makes available to customers new and used entertainment products and unique, contemporary gifts and toys.

Question: Gee, this is a really long FAQ. Doesn't Hasting have their own FAQ for customers?
Answer:
Hastings does have their own FAQ. You can read Hastings' official FAQ by clicking here. However, this FAQ goes into many details that Hastings' own FAQ does not. So be sure to read through all of this before asking a question!

Answer:

Game / Item Condition
Question: What is the difference between "used" and "previously viewed" items on GoHastings.Com?
Answer:
"Used" games and movies are items that have been traded in to a Hastings retail location by a customer. "Previously viewed" games and movies are items that Hastings has rented out to customers at their retail locations but are now selling to the public.

When it comes to video games, most CAGs report no real difference between the two other than some ancillary stickers, but both "used" and "previously viewed" games are subject to being scratched, abused, or incomplete depending how well it was previously taken care of.

When it comes to movies, the "Previously Viewed" rental versions often lack features from the full retail versions and may come in different boxes, have different UPCs, have white barcode stickers around the center ring of the disc, etc.

You may encounter a situation where a customer has purchased a "previously used" item from Hastings, then traded it back into Hastings, thus making it a "used" item. This practiced is frowned upon by most customers, but Hastings has shown next to no incentive to change it. It mostly happens with movies.

Question: Do used and previously viewed video games come complete with the original case and manual?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com states as follows:

Due to the nature of used products; booklet inserts, digital movie downloads and manuals are not guaranteed in our used video games, movies and CDs.
However, the vast majority of CAGs have reported that a large majority of their games do arrive complete. Incomplete games are more of an exception rather than the rule.

Question: Are used collector's editions and limited editions of games guaranteed to come with extras like bonus discs, statutes, and other items?
Answer:
No. Hopefully the used CE and LE games would at least come with all of the discs, but this is not guaranteed. And there is absolutely no guarantee other physical items or "swag" will be included for these used copies. However, CAGs have reported that they have purchased used CE and LE games and received all of the extras. If you order a used CE or LE and it does not come with the extras, just contact customer service and ask about a return/refund.

Question: What condition do "used" and "previously viewed" discs come in?
Answer:
Mosts CAGs seem to get games in good, playable condition if not better. However, there have been cases of receiving a game so scratched up that it would not load/play. These games can be returned to GoHastings.Com at no cost to the customer for a full refund.

NEW!
Question: Are New condition games factory sealed or gutted and re-sealed?
Answer:
As of mid-2013, Hastings retail stores have adopted a policy of gutting games then storing the game discs, manuals and DLC papers separately. This is so they do not have to lock up games or put security cases on games yet still allow the customer to physically handle the boxes in-store. When a new game is sold, Hasting will either re-seal the game or they will place the game in a bag that cannot be opened if you want to return the game as new.

Shipping
Question: Why are my items shipping individually? Why does GoHastings.Com include a shipping charge for each individual item ordered?
Answer:
Hastings does not have warehouses for fulfilling internet orders. All items are shipped from individual brick and mortar retail stores. If your order contains multiple items, your order may ship from multiple locations at different times if one location does not have all of the items you ordered. Because items could ship from more than one location, GoHastings.Com charges a per item shipping fee. Yes this can be frustrating, so its best to either get over it if you intend to shop at GoHastings.Com, or if you can't get over it, shop elsewhere. Like all "deals," include the shipping price per item into consideration for the total cost of the game being purchased.

UPDATED!
Question: How much is shipping per item?
Answer:
Video Games and PC software ship for $2.28 per item.

CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays ship for $1.29 per item.

Books have a per-order charge of $3.00 plus $0.99 shipping per book ordered.

Game Hardware, Electronics and Trends have a per-order charge of $1.99 plus $0.10 shipping per ounce for each item ordered.

Full shipping information, including expedited shipping prices, can be found HERE.

Occasionally, GoHastings.Com offers free or reduced shipping promotions.

Please note, books used to ship for $0.96 per order with no per item charge but Hastings discontinued that pricing scheme as of January 10, 2014. CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays used to ship for $0.96 per item, but Hastings raised that price to the current cost as of approximately May 25, 2014.

Question: How long does it take GoHastings.Com to ship my order?
Answer:
Standard Shipping:
Order processed within 48 Hours
Shipping time is 3-10 Days

Priority / Expedited Mail:
Order processed within 48 Hours
Shipping time is 2 - 3 Days

Question: What service does GoHastings.Com use to ship items?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com primarily ships items using the United States Postal Service (USPS). Video games ship via USPS First Class Mail. Books, movies and music ship via USPS Media Mail. Larger orders may ship via UPS.

Question: Will GoHastings.Com give me a tracking number for each shipment?
Answer:
Every shipment usually has a tracking number associated with it. If you did not see a tracking number in the shipping confirmation email, check your order history on GoHastings.Com.

Question: What will GoHastings.Com ship my items in?
Answer:
It will vary. Hastings might use a yellow paper mailer with bubble padding on the inside. They might use a white plastic envelope with bubble padding on the inside. They might use a stiffer paper/lighter cardboard envelope with no padding. Hastings will try to jam as many items into any of the above envelope options as possible, resulting in frequently damaged books, broken game/movie/CD cases, etc. On rare occasions, someone at Hastings will have the common sense to put larger or heavier items into a box for safer shipping, but even then they will neglect to use padding. Hastings used to ship items in a white plastic poly-bag with absolutely no padding or protection, but after numerous complaints, the company claims these are supposed to be phased out and no longer in use. They still pop up from time to time.

Order Cancellations / Out Of Stock Items
Question: Why was an item cancelled out of my order? Why is that item back in stock right now?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com fills their stock from their Hastings brick and mortar retail locations. Additionally, GoHastings.Com sells items on Amazon and eBay. Their online inventory system is antiquated and does not update stock instantaneously across physical store locations, GoHastings.Com, Amazon, and eBay. Therefore if someone bought the same item first in store/on Amazon/on eBay, their order will be fulfilled first and your item will be cancelled if there is not enough inventory to go around, even though you thought the item was in stock. Yes this sucks, but now you know about it so you can simply choose not to shop at GoHastings in the future if you can't deal with it. No need to endlessly complain about it in posts. Consider writing a letter to the president of Hastings, whose contact info can be found below this FAQ.

Because Hastings' physical store locations accept trade-ins for the used items that they sell, an item that was out of stock may quickly come back into stock if someone trades in the same item, or if someone returns the same item. However, as stated above, GoHastings.Com has an antiquated online system, and they will not be able to fulfill any items on your order once they have been canceled. You will have to re-order the item, at which time the promotion you initially ordered under may have expired. You can try to contact customer service to see if they will create a new order for you with the price point your originally ordered under.

Question: I just ordered something and now it shows as out of stock, either on my order history page or on the item's page. Will my order be canceled?
Answer:
Probably not, but it is still possible. GoHastings.Com updates its inventory count immediately when sales from the website are made. Therefore if they had one item, and you ordered it, it will now show up as out of stock on GoHastings.Com. However, if someone ordered it off Hastings' eBay or Amazon Marketplace listings first, they may fulfill that order first and cancel your order. Also, if someone walks into the store and purchases the item before it is pulled to ship to you, your order will be canceled. Additionally, store employees may not be able to locate the item and thus cancel your order for that reason. Hastings also has a problem on their website where items in your order history show as out of stock, sometimes regardless of the actual stock. Your best bet is to take a deep breath and not worry about it.

Sale Pricing
NEW!
Question: How can I tell if one promotion or discount is better than a different commonly offered promotion or discount?
Answer:
The following guides are only for video games since they take into consideration the $2.28 per game shipping price. You will have to do your own math for music/movies, books, trends/electronics and other shipping sales.

Remember, stock and prices fluctuate constantly and may not be the same by the next sale.

The math in the Buy 2 Get 1 For $1 deal assumes you choose three equally priced games to maximize your potential savings.

Question: GoHastings.Com totally raised their prices prior to the sale! OMGWTFBBQSauce! Should I call the police / attorney general / president of the United States?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com claims to not raise their prices prior to sales. Their pricing is based on algorithms that consider things like supply, demand, competitor pricing, market rates, etc. If a game was $10 before the sale and $15 24 hours into the sale, chances are there were only a couple of copies of the game and someone bought one when the sale started, thus affecting the supply and demand. You are not the only one monitoring a Wish List on GoHastings.Com. However, there have been some clearly documented instances of raising prices right before a sale, especially with books rather than games.

Promotional Deal Codes
Question: Why is the promotional code not applying to my order?
Answer:
Certain M-rated games carry the disclaimer that "This item is only available for purchase by customers age 17 and older." If you have such a game in your cart, be sure to check the box by the "Check Out" button that says "I am at least 17 years of age" before clicking the "Apply Promotion Code" button to apply the promotional code.

Additionally, some promotional codes only apply to select qualifying titles. Be sure that your order only contains such titles. Occasionally the GoHastings.Com programmers miss something and games that are supposed to qualify do not work with the promotional code. If this is the case, please contact GoHastings.Com. Contact information can be found below this FAQ.

Question: Can I use more than one promotional code at the same time? Can I stack promotional codes?
Answer:
No, you can only apply one promotional code per order. This prevents code stacking. If there are two promotional codes valid at the same time that you would like to use, you must place two or more separate orders.

Question: What time do promotions normally begin / end?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com operates based on the Central Time Zone. Weekly promotions usually start on Sunday and usually last the whole week. Various other promotions may have different start times and durations. Promotions usually begin at midnight Central time. However, sometimes the new promotions take a while to go "live" on the website, so always double check your order that the correct discounted price is shown.

Order Problems and Contacting Customer Service
(Including Returns/Replacements for Wrong Item or Damaged/Defective Item)

Question: I am trying to place an order and have entered my correct shipping address, billing address and credit card info. The check out page says there is a problem with my information and I need to correct it, but nothing is incorrect. What is going on?!
Answer:
This is a random error that seems to affect some people and not others. There is no known cause for it. People have reported it occurring with different credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc.). Some people think it has to do with what web browser you use, so perhaps try a different one. Some people have reported they can't place orders from computers or IP numbers located out of the state where their billing or shipping address is located. The bottom line is there is no fix for this problem from the customer's end. Your only attempt to get it resolved will be to CALL Customer Service. Contact details for Customer Service can be found below this FAQ.

Question: GoHastings.Com sent me a defective game or the wrong game. How do I return it? Can they send me a replacement/correct item?
Answer:
Contact customer service to initiate the return process. Customer service contact information is located in this post, below the FAQ. GoHastings.Com will not charge you to ship the game back, and they will give you a full refund, including what you paid initially for shipping. In some instances, they will simply refund the cost of the item and let you keep the defective or wrong item for free. GoHastings.Com will not normally send you a replacement item if you received a defective or incorrect item. They will usually tell you that you must place a new order, at which time the promotion you initially ordered under may have expired. You can try to contact customer service to see if they will create a new order for you with the price point you originally ordered under.

Question: Something went wrong with my order. How do I contact customer service?
Answer:
Customer service contact information is located in this post, below the FAQ.

Question: Should I call or email customer service?
Answer:
CAGs have reported mixed experiences with both calling and emailing Hastings Customer Service. It is up to your preference. If you are contacting them regarding credit card issues, it may be best to call rather than put highly sensitive information in an email. If you call during business hours, your issue may be resolved right then over the phone. You might also have to wait on hold for a long period of time during peak hours. If you email, you may have to wait up to 48 hours to get a response, especially if you email over the weekend. Often the email replies fail to understand your entire issue with your order. Customer Service contact information is located in this post, below the FAQ.

Question: What is GoHastings.Com return policy?
Answer:
The GoHastings.Com website states their return policy is as follows:

All items purchased through gohastings.com may be returned for a full refund of the purchase price, if they meet the following criteria:

 • All new items are in original unopened packaging.
 • Return of product is within 30 days of shipping date.
 • Returned product(s) must be in the original packaging and include any manuals, cabling and accessories in saleable condition.
 • Video Game Systems that are found defective within the 30 day window must make a return using the manufacturer's warranty.
Shipping and handling charges are not refundable.
Note: Products purchased through goHastings.com may not be returned to a physical store location for refund.
However, this can be confusing considering used items, such as games, come in opened packaging. Normally GoHastings has no problem with returns for defective or incorrect used game shipments that are promptly requested. At the very least, if a game item was found to be defective within 30 days of the shipping date, you would have a good argument toward customer service that you should be able to return the game item. Abusing the return policy to replace your own broken items with items from GoHastings inventory wouldn't be a good idea.

Answer:

Question: Where are Hastings brick and mortar retail stores located?
Answer:
Question: Are the online prices the same in store? Are the online specials valid in store?
Answer:
Generally speaking, no. For used items and for some new items, GoHastings.Com uses algorithms where prices can change multiple times in one day. Hastings retail locations have their own set prices. See your local store for more information. Additionally, online special sales and promotions are not valid in store. Sometimes Hastings runs the same pricing online and in store for certain items.

Question: Are the brick and mortar retail location advertisements valid online?
Answer:
Generally the prices in the retail location advertisements are not valid on GoHastings.Com. Sometimes Hastings runs the same pricing online and in store for certain items.
Sounds like bad luck to me. I have yet to have a problem and I have bought from GH for a couple years now.
They basically flat out scammed me. Both items were the newer, more expensive versions, and they sent me cheap, older versions, and pocketed the difference. I'm glad the items I ordered for someone else came complete, but other than that, I'm completely displeased with them. I still have items in the mail, or waiting to be shipped. I guess we'll see how many more turn up wrong. I'm sticking with amazon, eBay, and half.com, and buying from individuals, from now on, when I buy used. This isn't worth it.

Oh, and the funny part, they sent me a currently "out of stock" item, rather than sending me the item I ordered, which is in stock. Their excuse on the order before this was that it was out of stock, so they sent me a cheaper, release version, which didn't come with the DLC. So when something is "in stock," they send me the "out of stock" item, and when something I want is supposedly "out of stock," rather than canceling, they send me a cheap version that is "in stock." I can't win with these people...

Your decision to make the errors intentional has created a narrative that is far more interesting than the reality of the situation really is. What really, actually happened was a sales associate checked the shelf for what you ordered and thought to themselves, "this is it," when it actually was not. This was either by mistake or indifference. Nobody 'scammed' you, you are just a victim of a system that is too big for the machinations that support it.

As has been tirelessly repeated throughout this thread, GH is a gamble, but 90% of the time it's a gamble that pays off. The preface for all GH orders should be an explanation of how they work: When you order, they don't go out to the GH warehouse and pull item #123456 from the numerically-ordered shelves. The order is sent to the any of dozens of B&M Hastings stores across the country that may have that item in stock, and then a sales associate goes out onto the floor to find it. Obviously, this is not ideal, and this is why problems arise sometimes. However, it's also why magic happens other times. Whereas you got a worse version of something you ordered, I've gotten unopened, brand new versions of things I've ordered, or hardcover instead of paperback. Not always, but sometimes.

If this gamble is not something you are interested in engaging with - and for games, that's understandable - then perhaps you should stick to your other sources. As I've said before, I'm turning to my left right now and looking at over 60 books and 20 movies I've ordered from GH with which I am deeply satisfied. I've had a few mistakes or beaten-up orders, but customer service hasn't ever given me any problems so I don't see my relationship with them ending any time soon.

Third time's a charm! Lion King was cancelled on two separate occasions, but my third order with it finally shipped.

Its pretty impossible to get scammed by a company that never argues about giving a full refund, and is always quick to do so.
Third time's a charm! Lion King was cancelled on two separate occasions, but my third order with it finally shipped.
Perseverance! :bouncy:

I've had pretty good experience with them, and they always are quick to issue refunds/ or even keep the problem item without having to ship it back. Only problem I've had is that they cancelled a few of my orders (I'm assuming that's an inventory management issue)
... I've gotten unopened, brand new versions of things I've ordered, or hardcover instead of paperback. Not always, but sometimes.
Exactly, got a "used" DVD factory sealed Sat. and have gotten the wrong games sometimes, that were other, more expensive games I was going to get, and the times I had to ship things back Eye of Judgment missing PS Eye and Move controller charger with no power cord, were pretty hassle free (other than getting them to the post office) to get back.

Have been shopping there for years and will continue to do so for good sales/prices.

Speaking of which finally grabbed Syndicate (new) and a JSA TPB for $32 shipped with the current sale, not bad considering I scored a new copy of the game for $23 and the TPB for the same price amazon would sell for used plus shipping.
Perseverance! :bouncy:
And with that, every one of my items shipped! 26/26!

I spent nearly $100 on this sale.

Everything from the last two sales has arrived, no cancellations.

Got all of my TPB's in this week in good condition, very pleased. The item I was most worried about, Smallville season 2 DVD set had a little scuffing/wear on the box corners but the inside plastic case, liner notes and all discs were like new. :applause:

Crash Bandicoot action pack, however, was another story. Two discs missing instructions (no biggie), two discs badly scratched (biggie). Just got off the phone with CS who doesn't even want it back and issued a full refund. Makes me feel bad to ask to return something, but damn, it was a mess and definitely should have been resurfaced.

Overall, another fine GH transaction. Even the bad part turned out fine.
Most of my stuff actually came in today. That was super quick shipping seeing as I ordered them on Thursday.
Did you receive Lion King?
The suspense is killing me.
Well it's been shipped and everything I've ever ordered from GoHastings has come in good condition and has been complete, so I have high hopes.

I just got my used copy of Disgaea DS in and it came resealed in plastic that has a variation of Hastings "used, quality guaranteed" on it. As in the "used" part is actually part of the plastic.

About 75% of my stuff got shipped, got a cancellation on the last item not yet shipped and ordered on july 4th. About half of my stuff came on saturday and all were in perfect condition except one blu/dvd combo that was missing the dvd. They let me keep the item and refunded my money, so at least I get to watch the movie, so thats pretty cool if you ask me.

Got the majority of my order today. First the bad...mailman knocks on my door and just says in his best Clint Eastwood: "I need 50 cents". I laugh thinking he's making some kind of weird joke. He stares. I realize the mailman is very serious. Awkward moment. So yeah Gohastings shorted them 50 cents on a package and this guy wants his money or no package for me.

Also, my copy of Bolt was a previously viewed copy and is missing the DVD. Lame.

Now the good. My Toy Story 3 came like new with the slip cover. So that's cool. Even better is that my Band Of Brothers for just under $18 shipped came like new. Wasn't sealed but was still in the cardboard retail packaging. Everything looked perfect.

So this time gohastings, I let you off with a warning. Any more awkward moments with the mail man though and you're going to hear it!

I couldn't help but throw down for 4 used graphic novels this morning with the $7 off deal. Two of them I didn't think would survive to the next 30% off or whatever and they were already at low prices where I would have bought them without a discount. I added another graphic novel that was recently released for a pretty fair price. I wouldn't be surprised to see it come down further in price for a used copy, but considering its a recent release, it was a good price for now plus discount. I threw in another graphic novel to slide just above the $30 mark and the price on that book was pretty good too. All in all it was about a 22% discount. And if anything cancels, the $7 off sticks, so everything will be even cheaper.

$7 off $30 might be a good deal if you can spot any new items at good prices. Books, movies, games, trends, etc. New items rarely get discounts outside of something like Black Friday, so that's where these $X off of $Y coupons come in handy.
That's actually pretty lame. I'm surprised the post office even tried to deliver it rather than just mark it as insufficient postage and send it back to Hastings. You should contact customer service about that screw up. One guess would be that they didn't actually weigh your package and the default weight for the items in their computer system was wrong. $0.50 is a a big difference, especially if they shipped it via media mail. Or maybe they shipped it first class when it should have been media mail.

First used order from gohastings.

Call of Duty 4 MW ps3: Case broken, no instructions, extreme moisture damage to the insert. Somehow the game is clean.
Call of Duty MW 2 ps3: Complete and clean.
Sacred 2 ps3: Complete and clean.
Grand Theft Auto IV Complete ps3: Case cracked and filthy, insert ripped, game filthy, but probably salvageable since its a bluray. It looks like someone used it as a coaster and picked it up after eating a greasy burger.

Things that would make me likely to order in the future: Returns/exchanges in store.
Some sort of standards about what inventory you take. Items that have been wet are nasty and shouldn't be accepted by your stores.

As it is, I'll only order in cases of an extremely good deal that makes the gamble worthwhile in the future. I would rather pay a few dollars more and know I'm getting something that doesn't need disinfected and fumigated before I touch it.

I may return one or more of these for being gross and I regret having ordered at all.

If you're not happy then contact CS. They'll take the items back with no problems, or maybe even let you keep them and just refund you.

Hmm, thats not the case in all of my experiences. Yes, you still get a discount, but its rated as a percentage of the $7. Anotherwords, if you have 2 items, one $10 and one $20, you will not get the full $7 off of the $10 item if the other is cancelled, you will get 1/3 of the $7 off (so you still get X% but not greater than). Ive had it happen numerous times and this has always been the case, but if youve experienced otherwise looks like you got lucky!

According to a post by a Hastings employee on Facebook this morning, you still get the whole $7 discount. Apparently last time they did this with $5 off, the whole $5 discount was lost if an item was cancelled and your order price dropped below the threshold.

Thats cool. But I dont believe them lol. Although not too much chance to find out since most of what i want was sold at the 40% off sale and hasnt come back

Welp, the newer trade and the filler trade just got cancelled, so I guess I'll see if I get my two other books I wanted AND the $7 off as Hastings claimed.

GoHastings is honestly amazing. I bought Lost Planet: CE and Force Unleashed 2: CE with a couple of CDs, all used, during the 40% off July 4th sale. Lost Planet came in pristine condition with the DLC UNUSED! CDs were great too; Star Wars wasn't in the best of shape but Lost Planet definitely made up for it. Whenever I'm going to shop used, I'm only going to from there from now on.

Well, I just received all but one item, from my previous order. You're right, it all seems to boil down to incompetent employees, and a poor business model. Two "used" items turned out to be "previously viewed," another of the items was in such poor condition that I don't even want to touch it, and so on. So, I'll be returning around four or five items, out of two orders. I ordered a book, which I'm waiting on, and knowing them, it'll probably be covered in green pet urine stains. I'm never shopping there again. What a horrid business!

I would appreciate if someone would tell me how the return service works, though. They don't actually take the time to reply to people. I've sent two reports/emails already, and all I get is an email with a printable label. My question is, is that label for the one specific item I emailed about, or do I have to include my receipt, that I received with each item?

I know how you feel. I ordered "30 Days of Night," and it looks like an animal urinated all over the case, and the disc is beat. It makes you wonder what kind of trash base they have providing this used content. Surely no one I'd ever want to meet. How people can be content with something so disgusting is beyond me. I think I'll just rip a disc image, and return the trash to goHastings. That is, if I can stomach touching the case. I washed my hands immediately after sorting through the stuff. Maybe I should just throw it away, so no one else gets this junk. What gets me is, they had seven copies on hand, and they sent me this one. Was this really the best available, or do their employees just care so little about customer satisfaction? Well, this is one high paying customer that they just lost for good.

I always call hastings instead of emailing, their response time is super quick, and they rarely make me return something as damaged as what you guys described, I always just get my money back. Some stores are great and I continuously get perfect products from them, others, not so much. As its been said over and over and over and over again its a gamble on the condition of the product, but you will always get a return/refund if you are not satisfied, so its more than worth the effort of clicking the little buy button...I have had just as bad luck on ebay and amazon and had to return just as much items from those sources, however I rarely get told to keep the product and dont bother to return from those sources... I never buy anything thats not described as like new on amazon/ebay, yet I get trash worse than most of the stuff I get from hastings, so .... its the nature of buying USED. If you dont like it, go buy new.

Umm, maybe because the place where your order was sent had that single copy, the other 6 copies could be in any other GH store.

Also, I think people's orders are getting wet or something, it's weird hearing similar complaints. One of my movies arrived in a proper bubble envelope, while another one came in just a silver plastic sleeve w/ no protection and the seal of it was not the best. Maybe that is part of the problem, some GH are skimming on proper wrapping and orders are getting wet.

My first three videos, from my second order, came in cheap envelopes, like you described. This most recent shipment though, came in a box, with about seven videos. It was the only one that had been wet, and seemingly by something other than water, as it's a disgusting color. They sent it out in this condition, this didn't happen during shipment. That's just carelessness, and/or poor business ethics. First off, they should not accept something in such poor condition, and secondly, they should never sell something in such poor condition. How can you trust a business that's willing to do that? People keep saying it's a gamble, but they're a business, not an individual selling things on eBay. You should expect some reliability, and a decent product for your money. There should be no gamble when ordering from an established business. Say what you will about Gamestop, but they consistently give decent quality used merchandise. I could bury a dollar in the ground, and hope a money tree grows, or buy a crap product from goHastings, and have to return it. Either way, I'm out a dollar. After a few items, it begins to add up. Especially at $3 shipping per video game, which is a format I also have to return.

In addition, I had to spend an extra $12 buying new Xbox game cases, because the ones they supplied were trash. I literally despise this company. Again, I'm just glad that I could deliver working copies of the games I ordered for a person's birthday. Other than that, this has been a disaster. I don't even know why they split "used" and "previously viewed" in the order section, as everything I purchased was "used," yet half of what was delivered was "previously viewed," and pretty beat, as well. Just cancel the damn order if you don't have it in stock, I don't want to have to spend $3 a pop (shipping) on shit I'm going to have to return, because it's been so scratched and overused! It's like throwing money down the damn toilet...

How are you out any money? Whenever I return items they ALWAYS give me a shipping label and refund my original shipping costs...

It's not rocket science. The blank return label they give you has the instructions on it. Put in the invoice/receipt that came with your items, or a copy of it. If you're returning more than one item in the same box or envelope, put the invoices for all of the items you are returning in there (if they arrived in separate packages and therefore have separate invoice papers). Write your address on the return label and affix it to the package. Seal the package. Drop it in the mail. It costs you nothing but a printed piece of paper and packaging tape since they pay for the postage when the item reaches them.

The only confusing part is Step 3 on the PDF where they say "Print this e-mail." Does that refer to the attachment you have to print to cut out the return label, or do they also want the email conversation with CS too?

I personally have never included the email conversation. I just copy my invoices, put them in with the items, and send it back. Sometimes on the invoice copies, I write what was wrong with the item. Never had a problem getting a return/refund.

In other news, 2 out of 4 items shipped from my order under this $7 off $30 promotion. The other two were cancelled. Now its just a matter of seeing whether I'm charged the full $15.63 for what shipped, or if they still give me the $7 discount and charge me $8.63.

EDIT: Just checked my order history. Instead of $7 off, I got $3.33 off for a total price of $12.30. It appears that they gave me roughly the 22% off that the $7 off my original order total equaled to. I might email CS about it since they said on Facebook you still get the full $7 off even if they cancel items.

This is why Hastings should stick to % off deals an not $X Off Of $Y promotions since they can't guarantee any of their stock.

Exactly as I suspected. I'd say good luck in the argument but then I have always won my arguments with CS in a matter of seconds. They will likely give you the $7 since it was posted as such on facebook.

Ive never had them NOT return shipping costs. They also tell you on their website you are required to return the item to them, but in 99% of the defective items I have received I have only had to return 1 and thats cause it was the WRONG item and not a DEFECTIVE one. Got my shipping back on that too.

I think the only time they don't return shipping costs is on books under the new $0.96 per order thing under circumstances like this: Say you order three books and have to return one. You still eat the full $0.96 shipping cost for that order because you still have those two books.

But on DVDs, games, etc. I've always been refunded the full individual item shipping cost.

Where does it say that on Facebook. I might have to deal with this, so it would be beneficial to know where they publicly said it so I can dispute. I probably would have disputed it anyways since the main item I wanted looks like the one that's OOS, but it couldn't hurt to have some extra back up.

*Edit*
Nvm, I found out.

Not I.

But for those wondering, here is a screen shot of the post:

i rarely get stuff cancelled in these "lesser" deals, its always the 30-40% off one day sales, so looks like all my stuff shipped and I wont have to deal with that, but thats a heck of a deal if you can get them to honor it, if the item that gets cancelled was your filler item anyway heh

Anyone know how hastings determines whether you need to send back the defective item or whether they let you keep it? It seems pretty arbitrary to me, but didnt know maybe it was a price threshold or if you report too many on one account or something... My guess is its probably just dependent on what CS rep you get but wanted to know other peoples experience if anyone knew anything about that.

It's based off the representatives you get, because I have gotten an official response before as to how they gauge it from one rep, but it gets thrown out the window when I get another rep. But it is consistent through each rep, so it just depends on which one you get.

There was a small timeframe when I had to call them up literally every week, so I started to keep track of all their names and voices.

I got the same 4 reps each time, but 2 of them always told me to send back, and 2 of them always told me to keep it, so it just depends on the specific rep you get.

Thats what I figured. I was kind of hoping to keep this one since it was just missing 2 out of the 3 discs and the 1 disc it did have was one of the movie versions. I guess I will just watch it and send it back lol. I guess I get lucky most of the time then since most of the reps Ive gotten tell me to keep the items, but I do often feel bad when I have to call up about several items within the same order.
