I haven't been in an OTT for awhile, but who'd a thunk it that Scorch would be one to make an OTT. Then again, I never imagined JimmieMac making one either
Anywhow, I'm back for Comic-Con, and I must say that it was great.
I only went two days at it (next year I'll try for at least 4), butit was great. As soon as I walked in my eyes went wide and I just stood there taking it all in.
I got to meet Gabe and the penny-arcade people which was just cool. Bought a t-shirt from them and they signed it. I only now have learned that they were also giving out free sketches. Damn, I would have loved to have gotten one of those, and even pay for it. The guys over at penny-arcade turned out to be really fun guys and it was great to chat it up with them. We probably talked for a good 45 minutes. I wish they would have had some more of their books that they had from Sukura-Con, but I'll either try for E-bay on it or just wait for when they release a more thorough collection through Dark Horse, which I also saw the cover of it.
Wanted to get a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Collection from Slave Labor since mine is kind of beat up from years of use, but they were sold out. I'll just order it online. They were also out of I Feel Sick and Squee. Kind of stunk. Really was hoping for some Jhonen Vasquez stuff.
I found a great new comic that I hadn't heard of from Arsenic Lullaby. Some really great dark humor.
The Nintendo booth was just amazing. They had downloads, prizes, cards, a big giant Pikachu, and a whole slew of things. I wish I had brought my DS along for the trip since they were giving out these awesome Zelda coins if you showed a Nintendo product and especially a DS. i was afraid that it could break because the convention was even more busy and congested with people than last year's.
Sony's booth pretty much sucked. All they had were mostly demos of games that have already come out like God of War and the people working it were really jackasses. The Sony movie booth wasn't much different except that the people there were o.k.
Lions Gate Films had an incredible booth and showing. Just stunning. They also passed a ton of stuff. From t-shirts, to posters, to buttons. I nearly got a Devil's Rejects shirt that one of the booth babes that was checking me out through to me, but some little old lady jumped in front of me so I gave it. I did manage to get a Devil's Rejects poster, had it signed by Rob Zombie (he's pretty cool in person), learned that Saw 2 was coming out (also got a poster for this one), saw a preview for Undead (this Zombie flick looks better than Land of the Dead and I hate to say it, but even most of the Romero zombie flicks. ) Probably not, as I'm starting to think that they'll probably fail to have the ideas materialize.
The Aeon Flux booth was way cool. Gotta another poster from the movie and then a War of the Worlds poster. Wanted a t-shirt but didn't get one.
THQ wasn't bad. Got a Juiced shirt, an FSW PC demo, a full CD Soundtrack to Destroy All Humans, some keychains , etc.
While I was at the Midway booth I got to play some of their upcoming games and I must say that they are shaping up very nicely. Midway Arcade Treasures 3 looks great and the ports seems to be adjusting well. The control seemed pretty good for the few racers I played and they seemed to translate well. The Suffering 2 looked plaing badass. It seemed to simply be more of the same, but slightly better I must say. They had a great booth and showing.
Over at Blizzard I finally got to see some trailers of the long delayed StarCraft: Ghost and got to play a demo of it finally. The game is shaping up impressively, but seems to be missing something that past Starcraft games had.
Capcom had small showing, but I did get to see a working Viewtiful Joe DS which was very cool.
Behemoth/Newgrounds and Alien Hominid were pretty cool, and they had a visual of the next Behemoth game which I can't wait for.
Dark Horse had one of the best showings around with a very impressive booth. Found a Goon book and I can't wait to buy it when I get some cash. The Goon, from what I read, is a great comic and I'm glad it won this year the Eisner.
That's mostly it for this one long ass post. Basically can't wait to go next year and hope that next time around I get some more loot.
Damn, you can get all sorts of free shit from these Cons...
