The "Messiah CompleX PWNS Countdown and WWH" Comic Discussion Thread
X-Men Divided We Stand is good, I think. I mean, I have not read many X-Men comics, but it has some good story lines.
Cool, I'll be getting it in a few days. I'm slowly getting into the X-Men. It's tough to keep up with cause the "X" titles mostly remain separate from the main Marvel Universe story wise. I know they have tie-ins every once and a while but for the most part it's it's own thing. I guess that's a good thing.

Anyone miss the Great Lake Avengers/Initiative? I want to see a monthly comic with them. Mr. Immortal is awsome. He dies all the time, it's great.

You know, I have been interested in that series but have not heard much about it. I was going to buy the TPB. A while back, I was going to buy the Deadpool/GLA Summer Fun. It was out of stock at my place except for a damage copy.
MC still leaves so many unanswered questions. SI, is great right now.
Yeah, my comic place has the Secret Invasion Blank Cover Variant. Don't know why anyone would want with a blank????
Thinking about dropping Amazing Spider-Man & New Warriors from my subscription. I just don't look forward to reading them anymore. I was open minded to the "One More Day" idea but it's turning pretty sour. They're introducing too many new characters and boring sub-plots. If the next 3 issues don't pick up I'm getting rid of it.

I'm still hanging onto Ultimates 3 mainly to keep up with the Ultimate Universe. I don't think it's so bad, but it certainly isn't as good as it's predacesors.
Yeah, I let my sub lapse because of this retcon. I am still enjoying the Hulk series, however. Any recommendations for some one who isn't a die-hard comic book reader. I'm looking at the New Avengers issues that Marvel Digital comics has online and they are pretty neat. How are the current issues holding up? Are the story arcs in New Avengers any good?
So basically, any recommendations for a Hulk/Spidey fan? How about the X-Men series? Anything worth checking out?

Well, I don't read a lot of spider-man, so I cannot really say. As for X-Men, Divided We Stand#1 as I said is pretty good, Wolverine 1st Class is ok, Logan is a really good series(I have only read the first and been trying to find the second issue), X-Force kicks ass. For Hulk, they have a series coming out soon called....Skaar or Skarr. I don't know, but it is supposed to be about the Hulks son and it looks cool.

Can I just jump into those X-Men books you mentioned, or are they not new-reader friendly. I heard about Skarr recently and am planning to pick that up. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah, no problem, I was going to pick up the Skarr series as well along with Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas. You can jump right into those comics right away, you can find the X-Force #1 second printing anywhere, and Wolverine first class #1 was a little harder to find, and Divided We Stand came out last week so you might still be able to get it, and I have not seen Logan #1 or 2 anywhere. Oh and there is also the X-Men series Cable and Young X-Men. Cable is alright so far, and I have not read Young X-Men yet.

Oh, and for X-Men, Cable and Deadpool rocks!! The series has ended, but you can get the TPB's at Borders or Barnes and Nobles.

How much of the X-Men story do you know? The Messiah Complex story arc just finished up so you may want to go back and catch up on that. You don't have to go out and buy the comics just read a synopsis on wiki or something. As long as you know the generic details of the House of M & Decimation you should be fine. The first page of most comics have recaps of any important info.

As for Spider-man how do you feel about Ultimate Spider-man? Honestly it's the best Spider-title out right now. A new Venom arc is about to start in a few months and I can't wait.

The new Hulk series has been getting good, and as mentioned above there will be Skaar the son of Hulk coming out in a month or two. There is also Ultimate Human which I think just wrapped up, haven't read it tough. Also if you haven't read them I highly suggest to go pick up both Planet Hulk TPB & World War Hulk TPB which just came out. Both are great reads for Hulk or non-Hulk fans. I was never a big Hulk fan but I read Planet Hulk and I got hooked.

New Avengers is one of my favorite titles & has never gone bad for me. Their hasn't been much in terms of action in the last few comics however since they're gearing up torwards the Secret Invasion the story will tie in heavy to that. Hope this helps :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about Ultimate Human. I have been reading it and it is good, still waiting for #4 to come out(last issue).

Yeah, I've read a wiki entry for House of M, but I glossed over it thinking I would eventually buy the TPBs. I'm going to see what House of M and Decimation issues are a available on Marvel Digitical Comics and filling in the gaps with the wiki.

As for Spider-man how do you feel about Ultimate Spider-man? Honestly it's the best Spider-title out right now. A new Venom arc is about to start in a few months and I can't wait.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a good comic and I've read the first volume, so I might start reading that now that the other Spider-Man comic has lost its appeal to me.

I read the Planet Hulk TPB and was also hooked. So much, in fact, that I subscribed to the comic through Marvel. Ultimate Human? Iron Man and Hulk duking it out? Sounds good. Looking at Marvel's listing for it I found this

IMPRINT: NOT IN ORACLE (What's this?)

Any idea what this means?

New Avengers is one of my favorite titles & has never gone bad for me. Their hasn't been much in terms of action in the last few comics however since they're gearing up torwards the Secret Invasion the story will tie in heavy to that. Hope this helps :)

New Avengers seems really interesting to me I. Looking at the scant number of issues they have on Marvel Digital comics, I know i will have to seek out the past issues on my own.

Thanks for your suggestions

Not sure what " IMPRINT: NOT IN ORACLE" means...? But to elaborate more on Ultimate Spider-Man it does a really good job in being able to get back into it at pretty much any arc. You could go out and buy it now and shouldn't have a problem in keeping up.

Have you been to you're local library and checked to see if they carry graphics novels? The one by me has a damn good selection and they stay pretty current. They don't have everything but they did have every single New Avengers TPB, that really helped me catch up on the story. And the best part is it's FREE!!! This is also how I got into GLA, 100 Bullets, House of M, Decimation, etc... the list could go on.

Got another series/crossover to recommend, it is the Marvel/Image crossovers. I have read the Wolverine/Witchblade and Punisher/Witchblade and I am hooked. I have heard that there is also a Wolverine/ The Darkness, it sounds cool.
Yeah, my comic place has the Secret Invasion Blank Cover Variant. Don't know why anyone would want with a blank????
as if the tie ins are making them enough money. i would laugh at the guy that buys that variant.

new avengers is great. i love the team dynamic, eventually its going to be just one avengers title. the latest issue of mighty avengers is great with nick fury in it. man he is so sly, and it answers a lot of questions regarding spider woman.

Anyone suggest a few good online comic shops? My local comic store only really has the lastest marvel/ dc stuff, and not much else. Suggestions?

I use Comic Fussion. I haven't used anyone else but these guys are reliable and responsive.
Are you looking for older comics??
I guess. Mostly looking for Grendel comics. Grendel has been around since 1982, so... is that old?

I thought you ment for subscriptions, sorry.

Picked up the Street Fighter (Udon) graphic novel for $10. Now what I don't understand is how something with high quality like Street Fighter (good quality paper, color) sells for $10 while something like Berserk (manga) with poor qaulity paper & black & white sells for $15. The only thing I could think of is translation costs.
New comics tomorrow, I am probably getting most of them.
My monthly comics should ship out in a few days. Can't wait :bouncy:

Holy crap, yukafls, that's a lot of comics!

No new Grendel until May 21st, unfortunately.

However, I did order Grendel: Black, White, & Red #1-4, Grendel: Red, White, & Black #1-4, and Grendel: Archives.

Well, I am only getting the ones at the bottom. I might not even get the hardcover because they cost too much. I read through the comics in like a minute if they are really good.:)

So I never read Iron Man comics but after seeing the movie tonight I'm interested. What should I look to get to start out? TPB's are preferred.
Wow, this is freakin' lame on Marvel's part...hopefully the word spreads on their asshole move:\

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/29/oh-my-god/

Either this movie really sucks or something fishy is happening at Marvel. Guess they don't want fans to speak out about the movie.
Not sure what that's about as there were two screenings of the movie last night in the Phoenix area. The movie rocks. Both screenings here had good buzz and even local critics seemed to enjoy themselves.

So the Iron Man movie was good? I heard it was up there with Spiderman 1 and 2. Is this true?

Also picked up a couple of tpb's:
Cable and Deadpool 5: Living Legends
Cable and Deadpool 6: Paved With Good Intentions
Y the Last Man 1: Unmanned
Y the Last Man 3: One Small Step

They didn't have any other volumes of Y. This is one slippery little comic to find in stores.

Most definitely.

Anybody read DC Universe 0 yet? It ties everything back to Flash 200 and both Crisis...and really does a great job of recapping the multiverse and the stories in the two previous Crisis books. Hell, for 50 cents its a great way to introduce new readers to the DC Universe. I'm going to have to pick up that Circle of Blood HC, I haven't read that story in almost 20 years.

I was gonna go watch Iron Man tonight, but gotta wake up very early :(

I'm excited to see Iron Man pop into the Hulk movie. I want to see more of those crossovers in the movies. Fingers crossed for an Avengers movie down the road.

Damn that was an interesting ending for DC Universe 0.
I'm not sure what to make of the return of Barry. I think it could definitely be pretty cool.
I definitely am hyped up for Final Crisis now. And the preview for Blackest Night just got me all hyped up for that all over again.

I got Scott Pilgrim Volumes 1-4. It's a great indie series that I suggest you guys check out.

Awards

In 2005, O'Malley won the Doug Wright Award for Best Emerging Talent for the first volume of Scott Pilgrim [2] and was nominated for three Harvey Awards (Best New Talent, Best Cartoonist and Best Graphic Album of Original Work).[10]

In 2006, O'Malley was awarded Outstanding Canadian Comic Book Cartoonist (Writer/Artist) in the Joe Shuster Awards. He was previously nominated in the same category in 2005.

O'Malley was nominated for a 2006 Eisner Award in the category Best Writer/Artist—Humor, for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, but lost to Kyle Baker. O'Malley and Scott Pilgrim were also nominated for two 2006 Eagle Awards, and nominated for a second Wright Award (for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World).

Publishers Weekly ranked the third volume, Scott Pilgrim & The Infinite Sadness, as one of the best comic books of 2006 in a critics' poll.[9].

X-Factor: Quick & The Dead one-shot is coming out this week. It features Quicksilver and I've been waiting for a Pietro update. He's such a troubled character, it reminds me of how far typical comic heroes have come. The great thing about him is that Quicksilver is both hero & villian.

They're black and white. It's still really good though.

Wow bro, you're gonna pick up all those SI varients. Investing or just collecting? ;)

I plan on starting a new thread soon, this one's getting stale anyways. I'll update it every start of the week with what comics are scheduled to be released. I'll get around to it by the end of the day.

Might as well try to burn through these last 15 posts then and get this to 500 so it can be locked.

I can't wait to read Secret Invasion 2.

Hi.

Has anyone else been aggravated that the lat 2 issues of 'Avengers' weren't about Avengers?

Also, 'Ultimate' Apocalypse sucked

I haven't even read issue #1 yet. My comic subscription messed up and it was delayed a month. I should get it today *fingers crossed* However I think I've spoiled most it for me.

I've been catching up a lot on my X-Men history thanks to wikipedia. I'm very intrested in going back and reading X-Men: Deadly Genesis. Anyone who read it could recomend it? Also I just learned Emma Frost's first position in the Hellfire club was a stripper. That's somthing I don't remember hearing about when I was a kid. Funny

Which Avengers "New" or "Mighty" or both.

I thought Deadly Genesis was really good. I definitely would recommend reading it, especially since a certain character from it has had a pretty big impact on X-Men storylines lately. And yeah, I forget WHERE it came out that Emma was a stripper in the Hellfire Club originally, but I definitely remember reading it. Maybe towards the end of her solo series? Duh...It was in Deadly Genesis.
Which Avengers "New" or "Mighty" or both.
I guess he means both since Mighty focused on Nick Fury and New focused on the Skrulls. I'm honestly not annoyed about it at all, since it's going back and fleshing out both of the series and providing a lot of background information for Secret Invasion. I thought both issues were stellar so far.

It reminds me of the issue were Luke Cage and Jessica argue the entire comic, however that wasn't even that bad for me. There's somthing very skrully about that baby. Human/Skrull babies are scary. Hope my wife's not a Skrull.

Eh...I was gonna go into a long diatribe about Bendis not understanding what the Avengers are, but I'm too lazy.

If the books weren't called Avengers, this stuff wouldn't bother me.
