the N3 ninety-nine nights thread!

I picked up this game on wednesday despite the bad reviews.
Everyone is knocking the game b/c its a mindless hack n'slash but when y ou really think about it isn't KH2 a mindless hack n'slash and that scored and sold well.
Yes I know that that has the Disney and Square Enix dimensions behind it but the gameplay is identical.
I really like this game more so than Dead Rising which I also picked up but haven't played b/c its so frustratingly hard and I find the zombies to hard to kill until you really level up and that means playing the game from the beginning several times.

-THe N3 save system sucks. It would have been nice if they could save at checkpoints but its' a small gripe. I didn't mind replaying the missions as I was enjoying myself and I found that the 30 -40 minutes that it took me to replay the game felt more like 10 minutes.

-The graphics are good. The story seems intriguing thus far.

I have never played dynasty warriors-the only true hack n slash ive played is KH2 and I loved that game.

Overall, give this game a chance. It's worth IMHO.

I bought it yesterday and i am enjoying it very much. Im at the end of imphyys missions and getting ready to start aspharrs.

People are way too harsh on this game. I've only died once on Aspharr's second mission; I don't think in level saving is necessary. The graphics look great to me, but I'm playing on 1080i so that might have something to do with it. I don't find the voice acting as bad as people say, it's better than characters with terrible VA in Dynasty Warriors. It doesn't have the replayability of a Warriors game, but it's not that bad for $50. It's a solid start, and it'll hold me over for awhile. Samurai Warriors 2 will be out soon enough anyway!
damn, no one bought this game? :)
Jeez I've had the Asian version man look at my freaking gamer profile. I'm sure glad I bought the Asian one instead of tolerating a shitty dub.
Already finished all 3 of the first characters and am playing Dwingvatt though I overwrote Inphyy thinking it might be a carrying save and store all the shit but word up ALL the characters need separate save files. :whistle2:/ This is why I don't think the witch is unlocked for me, at least I hope. I'm also a little bit disappointed discovering I can only play 1 dark side character and less of the one's I want. Epharr would be nice as well as the main Dragon Lady chick but so far I think the Mystery character just might be one of the specialized archers which is cool but I wish there were more like the one's I've listed.
I just feel given the cool other characters shown like maybe 2 extra could've been added. I know it sounds bad but I feel more content should be added and I hope in the future MS makes those two characters playable with a more fleshed out storyline to them in addition as well as a full quest for each.

Really enjoying this game so far. Granted I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game.

Though I wish there was a checkpoint system for the game, I do agree with ivanctorres, when he said the time just flew by when replaying the levels. I haven't had a problem with any of the bosses so far, except when I run into Dwingvatt.

Might be too early to state this seeing as I've only finished Inphyy's story and working on Aspharr's last stage.

Yeah unfortunately and the assholes at MS are forcing a dub on American players even though they have the rights to it worldwide since it's branded an MS product therefore they have the rights to the sub. I don't understand why MS couldn't include them both but then I don't understand why Sega didn't include both audio tracks on Shenmue as well.
Yeah I have a Japanese 360 which will save me money soon in the long run for most games, just buy the Asian version and save money since almost all of them seem to be subtitled. I'll tell you I would be surprised if "Blue Dragon" didn't have subs and so I'm looking forward to getting it a month or two early even as well as saving $10 on it.

Been playing through this, im not liking it at all. Button mashing and really unbalanced bosses arent my thing (troll hits me for 75% of my health, wtf...).

Shame because the achievements seemed to sound so easy too.

They are.

Be careful people, there is the worst character in the history of video games in this game, and she goes by the name of Tyurru. Make sure you're plenty calm when you start her story.

I finally got it today. Why did I hesitate, the game is great.

Reminds me of button mashers from youth, and its a nice mindless change from the hell Dead Rising puts me through :)

Have you made sure to consistently equip new weapons and items? I didn't realize I could till a while into the game.
As for the other person bummer, I haven't played Tyurru yet so it's a bummer to hear she sucks.

lol, the "other person"

Well, she's just odd and can't do anything against armored characters and bosses. Her blue orb attack is top notch though.

Yeah some attacks are kind of shitty, like Myifee's. It's not that it's bad but unless it hits right it's just worthless, I mean his super of course.
I listed you as the other person because I quoted him.

Haha, I know.

Myifee and Klarrann were both letdowns for me, but Klarrann is getting better with each level, so let's hope he is amazing at level 9.
Ha, yeah, I did the same thing. It wasn't until the last Inphyy mission before I noticed that the "Status" screen in the pause menu is where you equip stuff...

By the way, what is up with the names in this game? Rampant redundant consontant usage is getting on my nerves... does Aspharr really need two r's? Or Inphyy two y's? Don't get me started on the crappy town-and-nation names...
damn this game. im thinking of rebuying a 360 just to play this game. am i crazy?
There are much MUCH better reasons to own a 360 for.

I thought this game was going to be a solid reason for getting a 360. Unless you have at leastl 3 other games you want in the future (Mass Effect maybe?) just rent this and play it on your friend's 360 or something.

Like Oblivion for one and Blue Dragon later. Note I DON'T mention eNCHANT arM, it's not that it's bad it's just not worth it to buy the system in my opinion.

blue dragon could easily suck.

I picked up N3 on Saturday w/ Rhino's 2-for-1, and at first I was thinking of taking it back because it just wasn't clicking. After reading up a bit & learning about equipping items, I gave it another shot. Once I started using items and leveled up a couple times to unlock some better moves the game really opened up. It's definitely a keeper now. The only real knock I have against it is the lack of multi-player - co-op mode would have put this one over the top.

And why is the dub that big of a deal in this game? There isn't even THAT much dialog - it's not like it's an RPG.

Well the fact is MS HAD subs as well and they COULD'VE added the option for people to use that instead but they decided to force people to listen to the dub.

well just got my copy in. Pretty fun, my biggest concern is messing up in the middle of a mission and restarting. I just beat the fort mission and it took 44 minutes. I didn't even go on the outskirts. It really pisses me off because all I worry about is making sure that I don't die. I wouldn't mind so much if I got to keep the EXP and items but i'm pretty sure you start from scratch. honestly I don't want to find out.

I find it amusing how they kept japanese writing on the box cover, yet didn't keep the voice acting in tact. figures.

I'm aware - what I'm saying is, it's not that big of a deal. Some people in this thread were talking like it would have made some huge difference if the game had the Japanese audio. But there isn't THAT much dialog in the game, so I don't see where it's that big of a deal. Would it have been nice? Sure. Does it make me enjoy the game any less? No, of course not.

It's a pretty big deal to me, It's annoying to hear that horrible inphyy voice every command you make.

On the flipside you are right that it isn't a catastrophic deal, still doesn't make it right.

And in the end the lack of a check point system is clearly the most flawed part about this game. Well.. that and it does seem to drag on a bit. a Damn horse, like in dynasty warriors, would have been a welcome addition to getting around.

The funny thing is that despite Mizuguchi's great unique games and original design, I can't help but think that he was the cause for the horrendous save system. If you look at his other games like Lumines and Every Extend extra, they are based on the old school thought of a consistent "go as far as you can" gameplay. And when you die you start from the very beginning, or at least the beginning of the stage.

Wow just beat inphyy, they stripped the BOA song too. So sad...... Also the endings are really bad....... like 4 seconds long and pointless

Man, you're playing the wrong game if you're looking for story... just like DW I skip all the story because (1) it's not like they develop characters, (2) whatever "story" they slap on is trite anyway ("I must avenge my father!" "Look, I'm Generic Cocky Mercenary #2,892!"), and (3) the voice acting. So what, am I supposed to empathize with Inphyy's inner turmoil when we get three sentences out of her throughout all the missions? Is the ending of her section of the game supposed to bring closure?

Meh. Who cares? Get me back to the game so I can chop down another thousand orcs.

I don't expect story, I expect something worthwhile after I beat the damn game. Dynasty warriors even had cheesy endings with the idiots dancing around. I don't care to wade around in mediocrity. It's sad when such potential is squandered. Personally I enjoy the game enough to figure it worth buying. However I can't blame the reviewers for pummeling to the ground.

On a side note, the game crashed for the first time last night on Assphar's mission @ valvvazzar or wahtever. weird.....

Well, playing through one campaign for an hour or 2 doesn't really constitute as "beating the game".

errr I already played it for 6 hours or so. I'd say that as much time as any game should take to "beat" the rest is extra... Because there sure as hell isnt any other reason to play this game past the characters.

Story doesn't really get much better.

Wish the vids were as good as the opening for dwingvatt, I thought it was pretty well done.

Damn... I wish Microsoft would get on the damn ball and put this on the Retail site already, it's been almost two weeks!
