You don't watch the World's Strongest Man competitions? Those are flippin' awesome. Especially the olders ones with Lou Ferrigno.
I used to, but I kept forgetting when they were on, so I stopped watching them. But, I remember the one night, I must've watched 3-4 of them in a row.

Magnus ver Magnussen, or whatever the hell his name is, used to win all the time.
bring back Sphere, that metal globe rolling game.
Oh yeah, they definitely should bring that one back. Kind of surprised they haven't.

Or if they want to make something new, duplicate the sumo game from Fuzion Frenzy with contestants/gladiators rolling off a slight raised platform to be eliminated. Not sure it would work in real life, but it might.

Isn't that what Earthquake basically is (except for the platform tilting)?
They have some pretty attractive Gladiators on the show. Easy on the eyes for sure...well...most of them. Hellga is a bit scary.
She was a guess on one of the late night talk shows, and she sounded like a man. She's also alot larger than she looks on the show...

Well I took a close look myself last night and while the assault rifle clearly has a Nerf logo on it, it's also clearly shooting tennis balls. So HotShotX was right on that one. This one turned out better than previous installments last night. Still it seems way too hard to get through. Nobody has got a shot off with the bow thing yet IIRC. They need to either add some time or make that cannon faster to shoot IMO.

Blondie from last night was the strongest guy through the Eliminator by far. He beat the other guys times by 30+ seconds right? So unless they can improve their times through it's going to make the rest of the show basically pointless. They'd need a 60 point lead on the guy to even the odds and that's more points than you can score total. I think Son would have beaten most of the other guys who've been on so far, he just got an unlucky draw.

And the two ladies were pitiful. I loved how Hulk wanted no part of the lawyer chicks 'Ooo I'm feeling sick now!' BS before the eliminator. Suck it up!
Isn't that what Earthquake basically is (except for the platform tilting)?
The Sumo game in Fuzion Frenzy has you in metal balls just like Sphere from the OG AG. So it would be a lot like Earthquake, but in metal balls I guess. I have a feeling it might not work right, but I'd love to see them try it out. :)

Earthquake is basically like the Conquer part of Breakthrough & Conquer from OG AG, except for it being on a raised tilting platform.

Two comments.

1. How'd I miss this thread?
2. How did my wife and I miss the premier of this show? Since we saw the ads, the two of us have been excited to see this ridiculousness and from the sounds of it...it's just as awesome as it looked.

1. You must not live on the boards. Better remedy that.
2. Oh yes, it's awesome.

True, I don't. I should remedy that. My wife was actually the one who first saw the ads. Then weeks later I saw it and go, "Man, I'm sure you don't care hun, but I really want to watch that." With her following up with, "Hell yea I want to see that...I used to watch it all the time as a kid on Saturday mornings."

She helps me feed my video game habit, watches Angel with me, and is excited to watch American Gladiators with me...I've got a great woman.

^^ Sounds like a keeper. :)

Oh yeah and Wolf needs to cool it with the creepy pre-comp comments. Last night he basically said he was going to bite into blondie and drink his blood? Uh, that's more gross than scary.

He should just keep it simple and ominous with stuff like:

*LOUD SNIFF* "I can smell FEAR!!"
or
"It's time for you to learn, I'm the ALPHA DOG!"

Still though his stuff is fun to goof on.

Oooo, and when he wins and the opponent is lying on the ground next to him, he should make his signature move a leg-lift/mock urination on the dude. Puts an exclamation point on the win in a classy way.

My girlfriend loves this show. They're going to have to stop playing Powerball, people keep tearing up their knees.

(Which is high quality television)

titan looks like he could've been apart of the original american gladiator cast. hellga scares me more than any of the male gladiators
titan looks like he could've been apart of the original american gladiator cast. hellga scares me more than any of the male gladiators
He was an alternate gladiator in the original series, but he never appeared on the show.

Well in a first for the show they played Powerball last night and nobody blew out a knee. Dude in red just lobbed 'jump shots' rather than take much contact which very well may be because he watched two other competitors get knocked out of the competition on that one.

I have to say the Assault has been better the last two times they've shown it and that dude in blue actually made Hit & Run interesting. He was also very impressive on the Elminator. Seems like they paired 4 of the strongest men in the final two prelims for some reason. Not sure if it was just a random pairing.

That dancer chick was pitiful. What was she going on about that she's danced on hardwood floors in heels so nothing the gladiators can dish out is going to phase her?

This week wasn't bad although both girls were very annoying IMO so it made it a bit hard to decide who to root for.

Really showed a lot of Wolf, kind of seems like they are looking to feature him. Which is fine with me as he's definitely grown on me. He has personality and is pretty funny. The original show had certain gladiators that tended to do events most of the time (basically specialists) which was cool IMO. (Gemini did Joust a lot for example.) Looks like maybe Wolf is going to do Hang Tough and The Wall a lot. And Mayhem seems to do Pyramid a lot which is cool as he is just ferocious on that one. Titan was pretty damn good at Joust so perhaps they'll use him in that most of the time.

And Evan is the man. Have to see if the two next week manage to improve their Eliminator times but at this point it's looking like Evan is so fast through it that he has the championship all but sewn up. It's going to take an injury or some kind of major screw up on the Eliminator (like maybe falling back in the water from near the top of the cargo net climb) to give the other dude a real shot.

I think I'll change the thread title to 'wubb chats with himself about American Gladiators'

Evan was ridiculous. I can't imagine how somone can get through the Eliminator that fast...and to improve his ridiculous time from the first round is insane. If he keeps this pace up, you're right, he's got that championship all sewn up.

It'll be interesting to see how next Monday turns out.

As much as I like the show I didn't like the fact it was 90 mins this week, I kind of lost interest after 9pm and didn't end up watching the Eliminators.

I also wonder if it's possible for Hulk Hogan to comment on something without using a wrestling analogy, that gets annoying after a while.

Still the competitors are sometimes quite funny in their little interview bits, the fireman from Queens was quite funny this week.

I think bringing back Gladiators was a pretty good idea, I believe the ratings have been pretty solid.
Is it true that the winners come back as gladiators in the next season?
Yep, thats what they tell us, plus they get the car and money.
That's the premise, yeah. They're going to look miniscule.

Evan is in pretty good shape but yeah he's not gladiator beefy. Maybe they'll put the winner on an immediate regiment of roids and weights?

I don't see the female winner last night being much of a gladiator. Evan, yeah he could be good. If he does become a gladiator they better not put him on the Wall. No chance for the contender.

I think it would have been funny to throw in a skinny gladiator that only does Assault. "Sniper" or whatever.
Crush is so hot..... man i get all hot and bothered thinking about her..... she can beat on me any day, cause I'd love to beat on her
She's also a professional MMA fighter, so good luck with the beating.
Is it true that the winners come back as gladiators in the next season?
Actually if you listen carefully, they always say the winners have a chance to become a new gladiator. None of these competitors would fit in and if the Gladiators start to look like normal people, it would totally take away the feat of beating one.

Yes, they do get the option because it would interfere with their normal jobs, but I am sure that even if the competitors look "normal" now they can surely put on some fun ego as Gladiator.
bring back Sphere, that metal globe rolling game.
Bring that back, make Hang Tough longer, give more time in Assault, use Gladiators hiding behind paper doors in the Eliminator again...I think that is all.

Remember, you can always watch past episodes on NBC.com.

Wolf is awesome. I look forward to those funny remarks each week.

I did not mind the longer format in theory, but it had about 1/2 hour of commercials which got really old. Another problem with it was that it cut into "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles'" time slot. Due to this I had to skip it on the television and watch it online the next day. Boo for that!

No surprise that Evan walked away with the final. Too bad the other dude didn't have the 19 point lead going in as that would have made it at least a little interesting.

I noticed Hulk also mentioned the 'You have the chance to come back as a Gladiator' earlier in the show but at the end when the two winners were standing in front of the Gladiators he pretty much said they would be back as Gladiators. Will they let Evan do The Wall? That would suck for whichever contender drew him. His gimmick should be that he climbs past the contender and then waits for him to catch up.

I think it's what Quint said - if they were willing to leave their jobs and move to wherever it's taped then they have the job, but potentially some contestants wouldn't want to do that. My guess is they have to move out there pretty fast and start bulking up, but who knows?

I'd be curious to know how much a gladiator makes. I wonder if one that is featured a lot like Wolf or Titan makes more than one that doesn't do much like Militia. You can't feel too good about your job security as a Gladiator if you didn't do anything in the finale. I think Stealth didn't do anything for one.

Man, Alex was pretty fast. If he had the lead, he would've given Evan a run for his money. But with that 19 point lead and Evan being ridiculously fast through the Eliminator, there was no chance.

It looks like both Evan and Monica are both coming back as American Gladiators next season, which is a cool gimick. I wonder how they'll do it next season? Think they'll have like a bump off of a Gladiator whereby next season's winner has to face off against this seaon's winner in a full on American Gladiator showdown and winner takes the prize of new Gladiator? That'd be sweet. Not cool for the people who won this season, but cool to watch

That would be interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the lesser used gladiators from this season don't come back next year. Crush, Siren, Venom, Hellga, Wolf, Titan, Toa, Mayhem, Justice seem to be the ones they really used/featured.

But the only three I'd be shocked if they dump are Crush, Wolf and Titan. And maybe toss Hellga in that group.

I was dissapointed that Hulk said 'The awesome Siren' last night before Hang Tough. He should use awesome to describe Hellga and nothing else!

Hopefully they are planning to add a new event or two or at least tweak some of the ones they have. And they better tweak the Eliminator.

I'm guessing if Evan comes back as a Gladiator they won't be putting him on Joust :D. Monica would probably do well on it though.

Sucks that it's finished, I'll miss my weekly dose of Crush.

If they are planning on getting rid of anybody then get rid of Militia for the men and Stealth for the women. I never really liked them that much. All the others are good with interesting personalities.

I would like to see the return of that rolling ball game (forgot its name for a second, lol) and something new. They could also make some of the events better as I mentioned in an earlier post, especially the eliminator. There is no real reason to use the handbikes! It is faster to jump off!
I'm guessing if Evan comes back as a Gladiator they won't be putting him on Joust :D. Monica would probably do well on it though.
It would hardly seem fair to have Evan on "The Wall." One contender gets a teacher of rock climbing while the other gets Wolf or someone like that. I do not think anybody the whole season would escape. What would be interesting is if he could climb and catch one guy and then switch over and still catch the other person. Now that would be impressive.
Sucks that it's finished, I'll miss my weekly dose of Crush.
Yeah...

did you guys see that Toa is Dwayne The Rock Johnson's cousin and body double/stunt double and he's ALSO Dave Navarro's (red hot chili peppers) brother?

Someone needs to explain to me how you could possibly beat Titan at Jousting.

If I were him, I'd just stand there and laugh for 25 seconds, and then shove the contender off with my thigh jiggle.

Hadn't heard that but now that you mention it he does look a bit like The Rock.

No one's really come close but the two finalists were both small, quick dudes. Not surprising they didn't put up much of a fight. The OG AG had Gemini do joust a lot. He was also a massive dude (not as cut as Titan) and he'd get taken out every now and then.

Toa and the Rock are almost twins

You gotta be kidding about Dave Navarro being related to them. If he is Toa's brother then he is also the Rock's cousin and we would have heard something about the relation a long time ago. Unless of course its some weird Michael Jackson mutation that got rid of his Samoan looks.

Heard from a buddy that both of them are coming back.

Evan will be known as Tidal Wave (seems like that name should be for a massive dude...) and Monica's name will be picked by a fan vote.

And no AG tonight or for a while. :whistle2:(
