The New slim PS2

I haven't had any problems with my slim PS2...yet. Then again, I've never had any problems with my "fatter" PS2 either.

Thats like saying that a new model of car won't break down. That won't be true about them all. Probably better than the older models though.

what do you mean 'exploded'?

i haven't heard anything about the infamous DRE regarding this particular model..so knock on wood. but when i purchased my first pstwo, i think the lens burned out prematurely (made a mark on my socom disc). i've searched the web and found that was pretty common occurence in these new slim models so far, but of course 9 out of 10 were because of the modding they administered to the little things.

The Disk Read Error is a standard error message BTW, shown when ever the system has difficulty loading a disk.

With that said I doubt it's possible that every single PSTwo out their will NEVER get a DRE, just as every other system in existance has at one point failed to read atleast one disk at any one given point this system shall also eventually have one or two units failr to read now and then.

And of course the day this happens someone will declare it an "epidemic" with PStwos. :p

Xplay says that the new PS2 can't play the new crash twinsanity game without freezing. I plan on getting a PS2 soon, and I'd be really po'd if one of my new games froze.

Jak 3 messed up on mine, I'm returning it this week.

I started using my old PS2 when the problem with Jak came up, and lo and behold, the older model is working perfectly.

PSTwo = POS
I traded my old PS2 in for trade credit on the newer one.
Yeah that's what I did. Well if someone with two PS2's got good deals on both, then more power to them! They are living out the cheapass dream. I just think its funny how often I see fellow CAGs talking about their 19 copies of CastleVania or their 2 extra Dreamcasts that they bought because they were on sale. Or many times people will buy an extra copy of one game - not because they plan on reselling it, but because "they couldn't turn it down at that price."

But then again, I will go ahead and buy games that I could have easily just borrowed from my brother and sister... so who am I to criticize!?
I still don't get how any true cheapass can have BOTH versions of the PS2... this confuses me.
I totally agree on this one, and the new one is not appealing since it doesn't use the HDD.

I should be more clear... I had the old PS2 and I actually did buy the new one. But the thing is, I traded in the old one to get it. The additional money I ended up paying was just slightly more than what I would have used to buy a network adaptor.

But for an HDD user, by all means just stick to the old one... you'd have no reason to own both.
